Is Espresso Healthier Than Coffee

This detail is an interesting aspect of coffee that many new and experienced brewers don’t know about. Coffee is chock full of antioxidants, a type of chemical that protects your body from damage caused by age, exertion, and the environment. That doesn’t make it flawless!

Coffee also comes with a pretty hefty cholesterol count. Coffeemakers and pour overs use filters that can catch some of the excess oils, reducing the cholesterol in the final cup. Since espresso doesn’t use a traditional filter, the antioxidant count is higher…and the cholesterol count is higher.

If you want to drink coffee and stay healthy, consider alternating between espresso and drip. You can also try skipping syrup and sugar once in a while .

How To Choose The Best Roast For Your Jura Machine

15 Best Coffee Beans in Australia for Local Shoppers

It may seem like a straightforward choice of choosing generic espresso beans for Jura coffee machines, but choosing coffee is never that simple.

While I personally prefer a dark roast for my beans, at least when Im using espresso machines, there are plenty of coffee beans from which you can pick. In many parts of the world, we think that espresso needs to be dark roasted, like an Italian roast, that isnt necessarily true.

In southern Italy, dark roasts are used in espresso, but the further north you go, the lighter the roast gets.

When I first started drinking coffee, I stuck with lighter blends because I thought those would have the softest flavors. While this is often true, I was really missing out on a diverse spectrum of taste.

Dark roasts have a rich flavor and, depending on the blend, you can find just about anything for your palette. After all, there really are as many coffees as there are people to enjoy them.

Want a smoky but smooth cup of coffee? An Italian blend might be best. Prefer something with notes of dark chocolate? Coffee beans from Sumatra, extra rich from that volcanic soil, could be the best coffee beans for you. Sweet and buttery caramel notes more your thing? A decadent French roast could be just the bean you need for your espresso.

How Do You Store Espresso Coffee & Beans

Be sure to store both your unroasted and roasted beans in airtight containers in a cool, dry placenot the refrigerator or the freezer where condensation can ruin the beans. It is also best to grind only as much as you need for the day, although some people prefer having a few days coffee ready for the espresso machine.

I find that even leaving the coffee beans in a sealed bag tends to let the flavor slowly diminish over the days that I dont store the coffee beans well. This is more so, if you are storing coffee that is already ground. For more storage tips, check this article.

Best For French Press Intelligentsia Frequency Blend Direct Trade Coffee

How to buy the best coffee machine – Which?
  • Milk chocolate, dried fruit, and almond notes
  • Balanced well for French press
  • Best drank black, a little light to be adding milk too
  • Only one size of bag available

Intelligentsia are amongst the royalty of Specialty coffee, they started as a small roaster who wanted direct trade with coffee farmers to ensure a fair price and top quality standards.

And while theyve grown to be a big company, they still keep those values of attention to detail, incredibly high standards, and fair pricing.

As for the coffee, its a medium roast with chocolatey flavors that always seem to come through well in a French Press.

I tend to avoid dark roast in a french press since the coffee already comes through thicker and heavier compared to other brew methods.

Intelligentsia sells through Amazon but they ship the coffee themselves to ensure its freshly roasted coffee coming to your door.

The frequency blend is ideal for the French press because its well balanced and a little forgiving if you accidentally over or under brew it. A great-tasting cup of coffee that will set you up in the morning.

Though best as espresso, the blend also works well prepared in a French Press or V60. Moreover, manual espresso machines still make great coffee with Cliff Hanger.

Flavors are on the unusual side, with black currant and brown sugar notes and a milk chocolate sweetness. This is a bright blend, with plenty of front of the tongue action.

Roasted in the Rockies, Kicking Horse coffees are marketed with mountains at their heart. This blend focuses on hanging on, with a climbing theme. Theres something logical about that given the unexpected heights of the coffees flavor.

Death Wish Coffee Company Ground Coffee

Some days, I just need an extra boost that my regular espresso doesnt give. On those days, I grab Death Wish. Its got extra caffeine and is known as the worlds strongest coffee for a good reason.

How do they get the extra caffeine that other coffees lack? Like Lavazza Super Crema, they use a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans. Robusta beans, while not thought of as the same quality concerning taste, are known for having greater levels of caffeine than Arabica.

That being said, just because they use a blend of Robusta and Arabica, it doesnt mean that this coffee tastes bland. To the contrary, I find this blend gives a beautiful bold flavor profile, heavy in both cherry and chocolate notes.

Just as important, its a low acid blend, meaning my stomach thanks me even on days when I need two cups. When I truly need to focus, this is the coffee I turn to, hands down. With twice the caffeine, one mug goes that much farther.

Despite the deep, rich tones of the roast, theres no lingering bitterness either. You get a smooth cup each time, without any lingering heaviness on the tongue. Its great in any sort of coffee machine you have, but these work best as espresso.

Pros:
  • Fairtrade and USDA organic beans
  • Twice the caffeine of normal coffee
  • Earthy tones with a smooth finish
  • Delicious cherry and chocolate notes
Cons:

Continuing the list is Kicking Horse Coffee, a brand name with a punch that suits its roasted espresso beans well.

Go around the world with this varied blend of African, Central American, South American, and Indonesian origins. With 100% Arabica beans and a medium roast, this bag provides a slightly less bitter experience than your average espresso. Depending on your tastes, this could be music to your ears!

We were impressed by the black currant, milk chocolate, and brown sugar notes, the result of which is similar to a strong tea.

To top things off, the Cliff Hanger Espresso is organic, Fair Trade, and kosher.

Who Should Drink This?

Coffee lovers who also love tea will gravitate to this memorable bag. Medium roast bags are a little light on the bitterness, so try these coffee beans black or in a cortado.

Oily Coffee Beans: Good Or Bad

Short answer: It depends.

Oily coffee beans are not necessarily badthey actually have a ton of benefits in terms of adding a unique flavor to your coffee and using oily coffee beans in your prosumer or semi-automatic generally wont cause you any significant damages, but they can be difficult to work with depending on the machine youre using.

Oily beans are generally safe even for use with super-automatics so long as they are good quality beans and they arent very dark or oily. If you use super oily beans in a super-automatic, youre heading into bad territory.

So as a safe bet, we suggest double checking which beans will work with your machine so youre not stuck with a clogged super-automatic and a laundry list of cleaning and maintenance issues.

Drinking The Rich Italian Without Milk

Like most of my reviews for coffee beans I used a French press. I detected a subtle, nutty aroma after I poured the hot water in and then eventually put the coffee to my lips.

The flavour is rich as the name suggests. Certainly a lot stronger in taste than the coffee bag version but not too rich that it is overpowering.

The coffee is a medium to light roast. I could not taste much in the way of the delicate or complex flavours that you would expect in a lighter roast coffee and yet it did not contain those bold, bittersweet flavours you get with darker roasts.

Upon drinking it I detected a medium body, meaning it left a reasonably heavy sensation in my mouth for quite some time. I felt like grabbing a glass of water to quench my thirst.

The coffee itself is very smooth although I did detect a hint of bitterness in the aftertaste.

The flavour itself is nutty although this was subtle. I could not detect much else in terms of flavour apart from the roast itself.

Best Cuban Coffee Gavina Since 1870 Old Havana Espresso

Tips For Buying Coffee Beans
  • Committed to a greener footprint

Cons

  • No word on freshness

The strange thing about an espresso roast is that doesnt necessarily mean its roasted exclusively for making espresso.

But in the case of the Gavina, it does make excellent espresso thats nice and strong perfect for adding milk too.

When Im making cappuccino I like a nice strong flavor so tend to opt for a medium or medium-dark roast, enough flavor to punch through the milk without being overpowering.

The Stumptown coffee at the top of the list is also a great choice for lattes and cappuccinos of course but I wanted to give you some options.

This was created with a nod to Cuban coffee culture where espresso is king, and sweetening some milk in an espresso is also the complete norm.

Roasted with care in Los Angles making this an ideal choice if youre anywhere in California.

Smooth taste, great espresso, superb cappuccino.

Searching For The Best Espresso Beans

Coffee is one of the most consumed beverages in the world, and chances are you are one of its devoted drinkers.

You may also be familiar with espresso, the strong Italian form of coffee that you will find anywhere from a Roman café to your local Starbucks. But not all espresso is created equal. So what makes the best espresso beans?

If youre unfamiliar, espresso is a strong, black coffee with roots back in late-19th-century Italy.

Originally made to be a faster form of brewing coffee, its made by forcing hot water through finely-ground espresso beans. Today, espresso is one of the most popular forms of drinking coffee.

Its typically served in small cups, and it has a very intense flavor. But with such a small amount per serving and such a strong flavor, you must use the best beans available to make your espresso.

If youre wondering how you can find out which ones to buy, you have come to the right place.

How To Make The Perfect Shot In 3 Easy Steps

Heres how to pull your ideal espresso shot every time:

  • Grind carefully. You want to grind your coffee fresh every day. Youll need 8-10 grams of grounds per shot. Use the setting for espresso on your grinder. It should be fine, but not too fine. Aim for the same coarseness as granulated sugar.
  • Dont skip the tamp. A key step in the process. Press the tamper over your portafilter and apply pressure. Dont forget the edges. Youre finished when the tamper stops moving.
  • Time it right. Aim for between 20 and 30 seconds when pulling your shots. Use a timer, this will help you gauge if you got steps 1 & 2 correctly. If your shot comes out too quickly, your tamp didnt pack the grounds tight enough. If your shot is taking too long, you possibly ground your beans too fine.
  • Adjust grinds and tamps, play around with your extraction times, and above all else enjoy that liquid gold!
