Chai Concentrate From Tea Bags

How To Make A Starbucks Chai Tea Latte At Home // by a barista

This is my favorite method because chai tea bags are easy to find and have a long shelf life. You can also use as much of any sweetener of choice or make a sugar free chai latte. You can easily whip up a small or large batch of the concentrate and you only need 2 ingredients, tea bags and water. I steep 2 tea bags in about ½ cup of boiling water for about 8 minutes. Sweeten with honey, sugar, brown sugar, stevia, monk fruit, Splenda, etc.

Is Chai Tea Latte Good For You

I know a lot of people are wondering if Chai Tea Latte is a healthy drink. For the most part the answer to this question will depend on a specific Chai Tea Latte variety you are consuming and how much sugar you use. But because today I am sharing Starbucks Chai Tea Latte, my answer will be connected to this specific drink. So I would say that this Chai Tea Latte is somewhat healthy. The healthy part is the spice infused tea. The benefits of these spices include its anti-inflammatory effects that can help ease arthritis, preventing and treating nausea, aiding digestion, and reducing the risk of heart disease. The unhealthy part is sugar. One 12 oz. cup of the Chai Tea I am sharing with you, contains about 18g. of sugar . I recommend treating this drink as a dessert and consume it in moderation.

Iced Chai Tea Latte Directions

Looking to drink an iced chai tea latte? Simply let the mixture cool for around 10-15 minutes. Then, serve it over ice. Its as easy as that!

Why is my chai tea latte gritty? The reason why your chai tea latte is gritty is probably that the chai spices settled at the bottom of your cup. This is why we used a fine sieve to remove the sediment so that there is no grittiness!

Masala Chai is a unique blend of black tea with a mixture of aromatic spices, such as organic cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, and various other herbs. Originating in the Indian subcontinent, chai has gained worldwide popularity with the addition of frothed milk, becoming colloquially known as a chai tea latte. Do Chai Tea Lattes Have Caffeine

Yes, but not quite as much as coffee. One chai tea bag contains 30-60 mg of caffeine. But, when using two tea bags as instructed in this recipe, your 16 ounce drink will have 60-120 mg of caffeine.

In comparison, a 16 ounce cup of coffee has about 200 mg of caffeine, so about twice the amount as a chai tea latte.

Using Tea Bags Vs Loose Leaf Tea

Loose leaf tea is generally superior to tea bags, but I typically make this recipe with tea bags for simplicity’s sake. Do your research when purchasing – even tea bags can be high quality if sourced well.

If you do decide to use loose leaf tea, I’d suggest starting with about 2 teaspoons of tea per latte, and adjusting as needed to suit your personal taste.

First the milk is swapped out for oatmilk. To me, the oat flavor and chai combination are reminiscent of an oatmeal cookie.

Secondly, pumpkin spice sauce is combined with the chai tea.

Make note, however, this is not a dairy-free drink since the pumpkin sauce contains milk.

What Does A Chai Tea Latte Taste Like

I think Starbucks chai latte actually tastes a lot like their pumpkin spice latte minus the slight bitterness the espresso gives it .

This homemade version is very much the same. You have the spicy, warming chai flavor, lightly sweetened, and mellowed out by the steamed milk. Starbucks uses 2% milk by default, but if you like a richer drink, you can use whole milk or even add a splash of half and half or heavy cream.

Is Chai Latte Coffee Or Tea

How to Make A Starbucks Chai Tea Latte from Home l By an Ex Barista

Chai is tea. In fact the word chai literally means tea in many parts of the world. In China, where tea originated, the word for tea is pronounced like cha.

So when you order a chai tea latte, you are in fact saying tea tea latte. And that doesnt make much sense.

The real name of this drink, with its roots in India, is actually masala chai, which means mixed spiced tea. However, most menus in American coffee shops call it chai latte.

Be sure and take a look at my homemade masala chai recipe if you want to make this authentic hot chai latte at home.

    To Make Hot Chai Tea:

Combine 1 part chai tea concentrate with 1 part water or milk , and stir to combine. Heat in a saucepan over medium heat until simmering, stirring occasionally. Or heat in the microwave until simmering.

    To Make Iced Chai Tea:

1 part water or milk , and stir to combine. Serve over ice.

    Starbucks Vanilla Chai Tea Latte

Starbucks already does a blonde vanilla latte that combines its standard latte with vanilla syrup. It may come as no surprise that this flavor combo also works really well with chai tea in place of coffee.

Chai tea concentrate already contains vanilla extract, sugar, and honey so when you add extra sweetener in the form of vanilla syrup you may find the drink overwhelmingly sweet. If youre watching those calories then you can always opt for sugar-free vanilla syrup instead.

If vanilla isnt your cup of tea then you can always try with a different flavored syrup such as cinnamon dolce to sweeten your latte.

What Tea Makes The Best Tea Latte

Strong black teas like Assam, Darjeeling, Earl Grey, and classic English or Irish Breakfast teas all make a good base for iced or hot tea lattes.

If youre more of a green tea person who prefers an earthier taste then matcha powder is the way to go.

Avoid using fruit teas in tea lattes as the acidity of the fruit will curdle your milk. As soul-satisfying as sipping hibiscus, passionfruit, rooibos, and peach teas are, they dont go well with the milk used to make tea lattes. Save those fruit teas to drink alone as cold-brewed iced on a hot summer day!

If youre unsure about which type of tea latte to try first we recommend starting with chai tea lattes. These Assam or Darjeeling-based spiced black teas have a strong and full-bodied flavor thats delicious iced or hot. Theres a lot of room for experimentation with chai tea lattes and you can play around with adding different flavors like star anise and cardamom.

I infused the spices in boiling water to release their flavor and added black tea bags. Black tea is on the stronger side, so it balances perfectly with the warm flavor of the spices.

The end result was a DELICIOUS homemade chai tea concentrate that I could store in the fridge and reheat with milk to make a homemade latte. No coffee shop needed!

And the best part? Its inexpensive to make considering that most of the spices are common pantry items that may also be used in other ways.

    What Is Chai Tea

The weak tea that North Americans typically drink has the colour of dirty dishwater, almost no flavour, and no need for sugar . It is nothing close to the version drunk by millions of Indians.

Indian tea, also known as chai, is rich and milky, deeply coloured, steaming hot, and boldly flavourful with a definite need for sugar to offset the toasty bitterness.

The word chai just means tea. Chai = tea.

If you ask for chai tea in India, youre asking for tea tea and your dorky adorableness will get laughed at a little bit.

Masala chai, on the other hand, is what youre probably aiming for its the spiced version. Masala = spices.

Despite what Starbucks would have you believe, real chai doesnt start with a syrup and its not super heavily spiced. If you visit India, youll see chai-wallas on every corner, calling out chai! chai! chai! and pouring steaming tea from a height , allowing it to cool a bit as it streams into little metal cups.

Whenever my husbands parents visit, his mom makes me a steaming cup of her most delicious homemade Indian chai every morning. I start looking forward to it before I even go to bed at night. It is the tastiest tea you have ever tasted and I could drink a hundred cups a day.

Granted, she really likes my tea, too, so I have a theory that it just tastes better when someone else makes it for you, with love.

How To Make A Chai Latte

ð?µEASY (2) Tazo Chai Latte Drinks at home! (Delicious, too!!)

I fell in love with the idea of chai through the cartons of this drink mix from the grocery store. The milky sweetness partnered with the astringent black tea drew me in, but the warm spices that lingered between sips kept me drinking. It wasnt long before the sweetness of those chai drink mixes became too much for me and I started experimenting with chai lattes at home.

This chai latte gives you complete control over your chai latte experience, from the tea and the spices, to the sweetener and type of milk. The result is a creamy cup of black tea subtly spiced and fragrant with cinnamon, black pepper, and ginger, and just the right amount of sweetness, so near perfect that youll skip the coffee shop chai and come home to make a pot of this at tea time.
