It does take up a bit more space than a standard coffee brewer, but it performs more functions, so it can replace other gadgets.

Though the Dinamica comes with a Quick Start Guide that has simple photo instructions, we recommend using the full instruction manual. Expect to spend about 30 minutes reading the instructions to make sure you understand each of the indications on the front of the machine, which provide one-touch brewing settings, brew-strength options, milk wand controls, and maintenance lights.

We found that the initial investment of time was worth it, because after setup, the appliance was extremely easy and quick to use — on par with the simplicity of a Nespresso or Keurig, but much more versatile. Espresso From The Dinamica: Making The Test Fun

When I tested the Dinamica, I put the DeLonghi next to the relatively similar Philips 3200 LatteGo, even though the comparison is a bit lame. Though the Philips super-automatic espresso machine is quite dinky, it feels more expensive than the Dinamica mainly because it has fewer features.

The comparison was primarily about the noise level, at which beans process in the stainless steel burr grinder. After all, how loud a device is while operating is one of the most important elements in any test.

What stood out in our test was that its not just about the number of decibels produced but also the kind of noise a machine creates. Both machines are relatively on par with one another, but the Philips super-automatic espresso machine sounds a bit nicer to ones ears.

The fact of the matter is that stainless steel cone grinders are pretty noisy with or without added sound damping built-in.

That said, the DeLonghi Dinamica super-automatic espresso machine can claim a mini-victory in terms of quiet milk frothing. Even the tubeless milk system from Philips couldnt beat it.

The espresso, which runs into the cups at volume X, is also much better than the Philips machine and many other brands for that matter. Theres really no comparison: super taste, nice cream, excellent temperatures and absolutely delicious results earn the Dinamica top marks.

A Small Damper On Our Enthusiasm

What also counts is a super-automatic espresso machine at the $1,299.98 price point that doesnt smell when you unpack it. That usually only happens to me with a super-cheap coffee machine.

But the plastic odor coming from the Dinamica was so overwhelming during the first test that I just had to mention it in the rating.

Admittedly, the smell has long since dissipated, and everything works as it should. Still, if no other super-automatic espresso machine smells as much like a new machine as this one did, we have to ask ourselves, What went wrong with my test model at the factory?

As you can imagine, I gave it a thorough cleaning before using it for the first time of course, you should do that anyway. But with the Dinamica, there was more of a need for this than I would have liked. Who wants to smell a factory when sipping espresso from their cup?

Many readers have written in to say that their Dinamica units didnt have the same odor issue that mine did. Perhaps mine was an anomaly after all.

Which Dinamica Should I Buy

In this review, I tested the DeLonghi Dinamica ECAM 350.55.B super-automatic coffee and espresso machine, which isnt available in the United States.

Great machine!

But the DeLonghi Dinamica ECAM 350.25.SB is the exact same machine, except it has a steam wand instead of an automatic milk frothing system.

Some users prefer a steam wand over an automatic milk frother because of the control it offers for frothing to ones exact preference. It also has the addition of TrueBrew Over Ice Technology for full-bodied iced coffee, which is really nice.

The price of the DeLonghi Dinamica ECAM 350.25.SB is $1,299.98.

You wont have any cleaning woes with the Dinamica series once you learn how to do it, that is.

Some reviews have said its complicated following the instructions. Even though all three machines willsend a notification when something needs to be refilled or descaled, you will have to read the manual carefully.

With that being said, the maintenance process was designed to be as simple as possible and accomplished without the need for chemicals.

All models have a removable brew unit, water tank, drip tray, and grounds drawer. You can rinsethese items under the tap, then snap them back into place.

The frother needs to be cleaned once a week by purging the steam system with hot water to prevent dried milk from forming.

There is a RINSE function that you can push, and the machine will automatically flush out the entire system. It will also initiate the rinse cycle every time you turn off the device.

Not only is this the fastest way to brew, but it also has the greatest effect on the taste of the coffee. To do this, simply turn the dial in the bean hopper to the finest possible point at which coffee still comes out of the spout.

Caffe Americanos & The Pot Function

When manufacturers want you to like a super-automatic coffee machine as a more profitable alternative to a standard coffee maker, they talk long and hard about the Caffe Americano or pot function. Its no different with the Dinamica or any other machine.

The Plus version of the Dinamica has a pot function that automatically prepares several Caffe Americanos in one go. All other machines only have Caffe Americano on board as coffee with an extra-large filling capacity of around 6 ounces.

Both have their strengths, though.

Just as a regular coffee machine cant even come close to an espresso machine, a super-automatic coffee machine cant make drinks with a taste reminiscent of the good things about filter coffee.

Trying to replicate filtered-style coffee in a super-automatic espresso machine never turns out well because of the limitations or functional specifications of the brewing group.

Theres just no way to remedy it, either in an expensive machine with 19 bar of pressure or in a cheaper unit with 15 bar. The basic principles of brewing are simply too different from one another.

Thats why my advice here is: for proper coffee from the filter, reach for a coffee maker. For a halfway drinkable vending machine version, you can always prepare an espresso and then dilute it with some hot water to make a Caffe Americano.

After all, you owe it to your taste buds and your coffee beans to make this informed decision.

Delonghi Dinamica Vs Gaggia Anima Prestige

Another great machine a lot of people consider when weighing the purchase of a Dinamica is the Gaggia Anima Prestige.

Available for $901.34, the Gaggia Anima Prestige is a beautiful machine. In Germany, we call this unit the Philips 5000, which is why the picture below shows a Philips branded machine.

The Steam Pipe Advantage

This is where the DeLonghi Dinamica ECAM350.20.B, ECAM350.20.W and ECAM350.25.SB have the advantage, as the manual steam pipe offers greater control over the frothing of milk.

In general, if youve ever used and adjusted any DeLonghi machine before, the Dinamica is no challenge at all.

Its inner workings and core construction are exactly the same as the entry-level winner, the DeLonghi ECAM 22.110.

The main differences between the two come down to the Dinamica having a display and a greater ability to fine-tune the brew settings. Of course, what can be accomplished at the push of a button plays into this.

How Does The Delonghi Dinamica Work

To test, we asked people with minimal coffee brewing experience to test the Dinamica to gauge its user-friendliness, and we called on baristas to see what they thought of the overall coffee quality.

Heating water: DeLonghi says that the Dinamica heats water in less than 40 seconds, and we found this to be consistently true. In fact, it rarely took more than 10 seconds for the machine to be ready to brew coffee or steam milk, making its efficiency comparable to that of a pod brewer . However, it did occasionally need a break when making multiple drinks in a row, but even this was limited.

Grinding beans: We loved that the Dinamica could grind beans, as this definitely makes drinks taste fresher — but theres also the option to add pre-ground beans if thats what you have on hand.

The grinder is about as loud as your standard burr grinder, and it works quickly. Overall, this appliance is louder than a standard drip coffee maker , but its quieter and faster than other espresso machines weve tested, making it convenient for household use.

The Dinamicas built-in grinder ground beans consistently and efficiently no matter how many drinks we prepared in a row. It was easy to clean with the included brush and the hopper holds a lot of beans, meaning we didnt have to refill it often.

Even when we selected the one-bean brew strength option and made the coffee over regular ice , the coffee didnt taste weak or watered down.
