If you or a loved one notices mild to medium symptoms, go to a doctor quickly.

If you or a loved one faints, has chest pains or trouble breathing, call 911.

Tiredness, trouble concentrating, or breathing harder may just seem like part of growing older. But sometimes itâs more than that.

Be sure to tell your doctor about all your symptoms. If you wear out more easily now than you did a month or year ago, let them know.

Low Rates In Active Bodies

People who are very active, including athletes, tend to have naturally lower resting pulse rates even lower than 60. This is a reflection of a strong, efficient heart muscle that doesnt need to work as hard to do its job in maintaining a steady beat. So a low heart rate, in an absence of symptoms, doesnt necessarily signal a dangerous condition.

Heart attacks occur because of a decrease in blood flow to the heart. This is caused by a blockage in one of the hearts major blood vessels. In about 15% to 25% of heart attacks, the blood vessel thats blocked also supplies oxygen to your hearts electrical system. When the heart doesnt get enough oxygen, you may experience a slow heart rate.

Call 911 or go to the ER right away if you suspect youre having a heart attack. Treatment depends on the severity of the heart attack. It may include a combination of medications, stents , and surgery.

Treating a heart attack usually restores normal heart rate. However, a small percentage of people may need to get a pacemaker to control their heart rate.

How To Take It

Loratadine comes as 2 different types of tablet ordinary and melt-in-the-mouth tablets.

Swallow ordinary loratadine tablets with a drink of water, milk or juice. If the tablet has a score line, you can break it in half if you find it hard to swallow it whole. Do not chew it.

Melt-in-the-mouth tablets dissolve instantly on your tongue without needing a drink. Be careful not to crush them when you take them out of the packet.

Loratadine liquid may be easier for children to take than tablets. The medicine will come with a plastic syringe or spoon to help you measure out the right dose. If you don’t have a syringe or spoon, ask your pharmacist for one. Do not use a kitchen teaspoon as it will not give the right amount.

Loratadine tablets and melt-in-the-mouth tablets must only be taken by children aged between 2 and 12 years if they weigh 30kg or more. Give children loratadine liquid if they weigh less than 30kg.

How To Measure Active Heart Rate

People can measure their own heart rate during any given exercise by following the steps below:

  • Stop the exercise temporarily and immediately place the index and middle fingers firmly on the artery on the thumb side of the wrist.
  • Concentrate on feeling the pulse in the wrist.
  • When it is possible to feel the pulse, use a watch or the timer on a smartphone to count the number of times the heart beats in 60 seconds. Alternatively, count the beats for 30 seconds and multiply the number by two.

The number of beats per minute will tell someone their current heart rate, which can help them determine whether they are exercising at the right level of intensity.

People can also monitor their activity level via perceived exertion , which involves noticing physical signs of exertion in the body. For example, a person can consider how fast the heart rate feels and look for other signs of exertion, such as sweating and muscle fatigue.

Anyone experiencing drastic changes in heart rate, physical discomfort, or pain while exercising should stop the exercise and speak with their doctor.

The ideal active heart rate for someone will depend on their age. The following calculations can provide a rough guideline for the average adult.

Dont miss this chance to speak with food allergy expert Dr. Dean Mitchell as he talks about life with food allergies and discusses causes, treatments and prevention of food allergies.

The past few weeks the spring allergy season has been in full force. Im seeing adults and children coming in with severe nasal congestion and sneezing. If you have ever experienced this or even severe cold, you know how uncomfortable these symptoms can be.

Today, many allergy medications are available over-the-counter without a prescription. This can be good and bad. The good is that you dont have to make a doctors appointment to get medicine for the relief of your allergy symptoms. The bad is that some of these medicines have side-effects which, if you are using them regularly, you should be aware of.

Sleep is affected by decongestants. I have patients who think their allergies are affecting their sleep when it turns out the decongestant they are taking at night is the cause. Decongestants are similar to caffeines effect on the body and with a longer-lasting effect. I understand patients feel they cant get a good nights sleep if they have nasal congestion, but again, a combination of nasal sprays can get the same effect with fewer side-effects.

Medications to Avoid with Enlarged Prostate | Reduce Symptoms and Risk of Prostate Enlargement

Guest over a year ago

When I first started taking Claritin for really severe allergies this season , I would give it an A+ for solving my awful allergy symptoms and not making me drowsy. In fact, Claritin and a cup of coffee would actually rev me up, almost like speed, for the evening classes that I teach, and I could still get drowsy enough to sleep with a benadryl or two around midnight.

For several weeks, I took 10 to 20mg Reditabs daily . I realized I could vary the dosage depending, I suppose, on the allergens in the air – 10mg after a rain would suffice, but I required 20mg on a dry, breezy day to keep from weeping, sneezing, coughing, snorting, etc. And interestingly, 20mg not only cleared me completely up, but it did not make me drowsy – if anything, I was even more speeded up! I had to consciously slow my speech down while teaching.

However, after these several weeks, I started developing numbness in my left arm , shriveled fingertips, a lack of appetite, very light short sleeps with weird lucid dreaming , a racing mind, a very dry mouth and a sore dry throat every morning, arthritic-like joint pains, and then arrhythmias every time I checked my blood pressure . I also noticed that my personality seemed to be changing – I was far more irritable, unable to stop ruminating in anger about things I would normally find trivial, talking non-stop to myself , and finally paranoid – with an alarming feeling of some unknown threat.

Whats The Relationship Between High Blood Pressure And Low Pulse

To consider how your pulse and blood pressure can affect each other, think of your pulse as an electrical system and your blood pressure as plumbing.

Your pulse is mostly controlled by electrical impulses. These impulses travel through your heart, telling the chambers to beat in even time. Exercise, stress, fear, and other factors can speed up your pulse. Being sedentary can slow it down.

This electrical system stimulates the pumping motion that propels your hearts plumbing system. When the pipes, or blood vessels, arent blocked, blood easily flows through them.

If your blood vessels are narrow or have some kind of obstruction, your heart has to either squeeze harder or beat faster to pump blood. This results in high blood pressure.

When your blood pressure and pulse are out of balance, it strains your heart. You might also experience a range of symptoms, including:

  • confusion

How To Cope With Side Effects

What to do about:

  • feeling sleepy try a different non-drowsy antihistamine. If this doesn’t help, talk to your doctor.
  • headaches rest and drink plenty of fluids. Ask your pharmacist to recommend a painkiller. Headaches should normally go away after the first week of taking loratadine. Talk to your doctor if they last longer or are more severe.
  • feeling tired or nervous talk to your doctor or pharmacist if these side effects don’t go away as they may be able to offer you a different antihistamine.
