Coffee May Help Men Keep Impotence At Bay
Study suggests caffeine may help maintain healthy blood flow and sexual function
THURSDAY, May 21, 2015 — Coffee perks millions of Americans up each morning, and a new study finds it might help keep men’s sex lives percolating, too.
The study, from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, found that men who consume more caffeine each day had a lower risk of erectile dysfunction. The exception? Men with diabetes — for them, extra caffeine didn’t lower their odds for impotence, the researchers said.
“Even though we saw a reduction in the prevalence of erectile dysfunction with men who were obese, overweight and hypertensive, that was not true of men with diabetes. Diabetes is one of the strongest risk factors for erectile dysfunction, so this was not surprising,” lead author Dr. David Lopez, assistant professor at UTHealth School of Public Health, said in a university news release.
The study couldn’t prove cause-and-effect, but one expert said the findings are in line with current research.
“These findings also support the latest U.S. Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee position that drinking three to five cups a day reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease two conditions that are well established as significant risk factors for erectile dysfunction,” said Dr. Natan Bar-Chama, director of Male Reproductive Medicine at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
Canned Or Plastic Food
Bisphenol-A is a widely produced chemical used unfortunately, in many of our most common consumer products: plastic containers, water bottles, and canned foods all contain BPA.
At the molecular level, it mimics estrogen, causing your body to react to it as if there is an excess of estrogen in your body.
And too much estrogen in the male body causes lots of problems: reduced sperm quality, an enlarged prostate, erectile dysfunction, and decreased sexual desire.
It would, of course, be impossible to altogether avoid exposure to casual toxins like BPA. But there are a few simple steps you can take to reduce its impact.
Buy fresh food, avoid processed food, dont microwave your lunch or dinner in plastic containers, avoid putting them in the dishwasher, and check the bottles you buy are BPA-free.

Watermelon Juice: The New Viagra
Studies conducted in the past few years supports the idea that citrulline, an amino acid found in high concentrations of watermelon, can be a big help to guys experiencing mild to moderate erectile dysfunction.
One of those studies took two dozen dudes with an Erection Hardness Score of 3 and had them ingest L-citrulline for a month. Half of the guys managed an EHS of 4 after a month of supplementation and reported an increase in sex.
These promising results were in accordance with an 2008 study from Texas A& M which found that the L-citrulline and L-arginine in watermelon deliver Viagra-like effects to the body’s blood vessels and may even increase libido. Although it’s not organ-specific like Viagra, watermelon and watermelon juice have been shown to deliver a similar outcome without the side effects .
According to Science Daily, Dr. Bhimu Patil, director of Texas A& M’s Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center in College Station, said, “Arginine boosts nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels, the same basic effect that Viagra has to treat erectile dysfunction and maybe even prevent it.”

Caffeine And Erectile Dysfunction: The Data
An interesting study published in PLOS ONE in 2015 investigated the role of caffeine in ED by analyzing 3,724 men aged 20 and above.
The men were asked a single question survey about ED, then polled on their eating habits over the last 24 hours to assess their caffeine intake.
The researchers found that men in the 3rd or 4th quintiles of caffeine intake were less likely to report ED than men in the lowest quintile — a group largely made up of men that consumed no caffeine at all.
The 3rd and 4th quintile groups consisted of men that consumed 85-170mg and 171-303mg of caffeine per 24 hours. To put this in perspective, a single 12oz cup of brewed coffee has about 120mg of caffeine.
In short, drinking one or two cups of coffee per day could reduce the risk of experiencing ED, assuming youre drinking regular strength coffee. However, it’s important to note that this is very much a correlation does not equal causation type of situation.

This one may come as a surprise to many men, because too much coffee can contribute to heart palpitations, high blood pressure, and other heart problems.
But, it turns out, coffee in moderation is good for the old ticker.
In a study investigating which ingredient in coffee is most beneficial, Professor Masato Tsutsui of the University of the Ryukyus in Japan studied blood flow in a small group of men who drank caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee.
Those men who drank caffeinated coffee experienced a 30% Increase in blood flow for over an hour afterward.
The decaf drinkers enjoyed no such benefit.
Thirty percent is a lot. Just imagine getting a 30 percent raise, or increasing your weight by 30 percent, and youll see what I mean.
Better blood flow helps with your erections because of how erections physically happen.
Your penis gets hard because the tissues fill with blood in response to complex reactions in your brain and endocrine system.
If you have good blood flow, theres more blood available more quickly to make that erection happen.
And good blood flow means better erections, every time.
With poor blood flow, the blood doesnt rush down to your penis. It moseys. The result is slower, weaker erections or even no boner at all.
