Ingredients For An Espresso Martini Without Kahlua Or Baileys

How to Make Cold Brew & Espresso Martini

The classic espresso martini typically calls for a coffee liqueur, but this recipe replaces that with cold brew espresso and plant milk. Maple syrup and vanilla extract add a natural hint of sweetness and a sprinkle of cinnamon ties it all together. Set my playlist to shuffle, grab a cocktail shaker and the following ingredients

Plant Milk

Cold Brew Espresso : use your favorite coffee brewed at home or a store bought option

Vodka: use your favorite or omit for a non-alcoholic drink

Maple Syrup

Cinnamon: optional, but recommended for a hint of warmness

Vanilla Extract

The cold weather is officially here. We cant fight it anymore. But if theres one way to help ease the blow of the chilly nights, its with a brand new cocktail recipe. And Ive got just the drink to warm you up this seasonthe Jägermeister Cold Brew Espresso Martini.

Best Way To Filter Espresso Cold Brew

After youve let the coffee steep for 12 hours, its time to filter the cold brew coffee. The coffee grind size is very fine compared to regular cold brew coffee, resulting in an espresso-like tasting cup of cold brew coffee.

When using a finer coffee grind, the coffee particles will not want to get out of your cold brew coffee that easily, which is where a coffee filter comes in.

The extra coffee filter will help you get all those tiny coffee particles out of your cold brew coffee, resulting in a very clean tasting coffee.

I suggest preparing the coffee filter by rinsing some water through it before pouring your cold brew coffee through there. The paper filter taste will disappear from the hot water, leaving you with a better-tasting cup of joe in the end.

I like to use a Chemex filter for this. The Chemex filter is very thick, which is great for filtering out the coffee particles. You can also use other coffee filters you have lying around like, filters of the Hario V60 or clever dripper.

When filtering your cold brew coffee, you can stick the coffee filter into the coffee brewer that its made for. For me, this was a Chemex, and its filter:

Then, just pour the liquid through the coffee filter and let it do its thing because the Chemex has so much space in the bottom compartment its great to catch all that delicious coffee.

Run The Strained Mixture Through A Coffee Filter

You could stop at step five, but the resulting concentrate is super oily and cloudy. I like to strain the concentrate through a coffee filter to clarify it. It takes a while so I just let it sit for a couple of hours to do its thing.

And heres what the difference is between unfiltered concentrate and filtered concentrate

So those proportions are:

  • 1 pound course ground coffee
  • 2 quarts/liters cold water

Which will make 1 quart of cold brew concentrate.

Now, if you want to have some delicious cold brew to sip on, simply cut this mixture with an equal part cold water and serve. But an even better application would be to use it in an Espresso Martini.

A Brief History Of Jgermeister

For anyone who isnt familiar with Jägermeister as a brand, or their latest product the Jäger Cold Brew, dont worry Im here to explain. Starting with Jägermeister themselvestheyre a German company known for their iconic herbal liqueur, Jägermeister. The drink can be described as a digestif which is pretty much the opposite of an aperitif. This means that, while the aperitif is a drink thats typically enjoyed before meal, a digestif is something you drink after a meal.

The name Jägermeister translates to master hunter, which links back to the liqueurs maker, Curt Mast, who was a keen hunter . He developed the drink himself and it was ready for release in 1935. Since its creation, the classic recipe remains completely unchanged to this day and its even still served in its iconic green glass bottle.

What Is Cold Brew Coffee

How to make an Espresso Martini and White Russian with homemade cold brew coffee liqueur

Ready for a new take on your caffeine hit? Compared to conventional coffee or espresso, cold brew has a more refined taste due to the brewing method used.

To make cold brewed coffee, you only need water, ground coffee, and some patience. Unlike traditional coffee, cold brew is made by using freshly ground coffee beans, and pouring cold or room-temperature water over the ground beans. You can then place the coffee and water into a refrigerator, and allow the mixture to sit overnight. The next day, you can strain the liquid and sip away at the refined caffeinated beverage.

The end result is a concentrated coffee, with lower acidity and a beautiful, rounded taste profile, because of the slow brewing time and water temperature.

Cold brew can be stored in the fridge for up to two weeks, but the taste may degrade the longer itâs stored or if itâs diluted with water after itâs been brewed.

Cold Brew Martini No Espresso Required

One of my very favorite shows on TV is Below Deck, where camera crews follow young stewardesses and deck hands as they work on super yachts around the world. Give these people an Emmy best show on television. Captain Lees one liners are one of the best things in life, and I always look over my shoulder expecting him to be looking on disapprovingly when my laundry room gets out of sorts. Yikes!

One of the cocktails the stewardesses are almost constantly making for their demanding clients is Espresso Martinis a mixture of espresso, vodka, and coffee liqueur. For YEARS I have wanted to try one, but I sold my espresso machine when we moved, and well, ya cant make an espresso martini without espresso.

Unless you swap espresso for store-bought cold brew concentrate!

The espresso roast is crucial, Marcu says. Coffee is very complex in flavor. The roast you are using and the way you are pulling your coffee will make the difference in your Espresso Martini.

As you probably know, the main reason why I have this website is to share what Ive learned in the bar world with you, the people who actually read this junk But one other small reason why I record my findings here is that is serves as a record for when I need to look it up and cant find one of the many coasters, notebooks, or scraps of paper Ive written recipes or techniques down on.

    This post serves that purpose.

Im tired of never remembering how I make my cold brew coffee concentrate for our Espresso Martini, so Im posting the proportions here for myself to find. And while Im doing that, I might as well turn it into a post and share it with the world.

Before I begin, let me just say that I am not a barista. I am not a coffee nerd, I dont know the first thing about coffee. But I drink it every day, I love it, I spend much of my time in coffee shops or making coffee at home in one of my many contraptions. But I definitely do not know what Im talking about and if youre looking for serious coffee knowledge youre best looking elsewhere. I. Am. Not. An. Expert.

That said, I do know that this process we use at the bar works very well. And we feel very strongly about using cold brew concentrate instead of espresso for our Espresso Martinis because we dont have an espresso machine. Heres how we make it.

    Ingredients For An Espresso Martini

A traditional espresso martini consists of vodka, coffee liqueur , freshly brewed espresso, or an espresso substitute like cold brew concentrate, and simple syrup. Since we are dressing this one up all Southern-like, let’s walk through what you’ll need.

BourbonThe quintessential liquor of the South. It’s rich, warm, and pairs beautifully with sweet and slightly bitter flavors from coffee. My favorite brand to use is Bulleit.

Coffee LiqueurKahlúa is the go-to coffee liqueur, and not to knock it, it’s delicious. However, Kahlúa tends to be quite sweet, and we really are looking for a balanced coffee cocktail here. Otherwise, we’d go get ourselves one of those frothy, super sweet coffee drinks from our local chain coffee shop and just take our bourbon with us.

I like to use Mr. Black Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur, but keeping with this truly Southern version of an espresso martini, I would recommend Bittermens New Orleans Coffee Liqueur.

EspressoAs you can imagine, the best espresso martini is made with freshly ground and freshly brewed espresso that sits just long enough so as to not be hot. Unfortunately, not every household is fixed with an espresso machine, or a barista for that matter. If you do in fact have an espresso machine or a Moka pot, brew enough espresso for as many servings as you need.

Simple SyrupSimple syrup is super easy to make at home and so worth it. Just a splash gives the perfect amount of sweetness.
