Once blended, pour the mixture into your glass and top your drink off with a swirl of whipped cream and an additional drizzle of caramel sauce for the full café experience.

Want To Spike Your Frozen Coffee Pick A Flavorful Spirit That Packs A Punch

The combination of liquor and coffee spans innumerable cultures, and for excellent reason. When making a spiked frozen coffee, you can certainly choose an obvious spirit like coffee liqueur or Irish cream. But Egor Polonskiy, manager of trade education and mixology at Patrón, challenges you to get creative.

Frozen coffee is a unique drink concept, you can use a variety of different spirits as a base, Polonskiy said. I recommend finding something that has a lot of flavor, complements your coffee, and has enough proof to stand out in a drink.

Things You Can Buy To Help You Make The Perfect Iced Coffee:

  • MY FAVORITE GLASS MUGS: I absolutely love these glass mugs and I use them for both coffee and tea. Theyre microwavable and large.
  • TALL GLASSES: I use these for iced tea and iced coffee and any drink where I want to add ice in a tall glass.
  • TALL PLASTIC GLASSES: I also have this set of plastic, non-breakable glasses since we have a pool area and use them outside often in warmer weather. They are dishwasher safe.
  • TALL SPOONS: These are a must if you use the tall glasses!
  • SILICONE ICE CUBE TRAYS: Even if you have an ice maker built-in to your refrigerator, you would totally love these ice cube trays. I love the shape of the cube molds , and they come out super easy with bendable silicone. You may also choose to make ice cubes out of coffee, so these are perfect for that.
  • COFFEE STIRRER STICKS: We have a little coffee station in our kitchen, and since I dont always like to get our spoons dirty these wooden stirrer sticks come in handy.
  • GLASS MEASURING CUP: You might already have one of these in your kitchen, but its definitely a must-have .
  • RE-USABLE STRAWS: I use these for everything I drink these days. This set comes with a straw cleaner, which is a nice thing to have!

Get Strategic With Your Ice Cubes

Yes, potent coffee will lower the risk of a diluted frozen coffee drink, but its also essential to carefully select your ice cubes and your blending process.

The key to any frozen beverage/cocktail is ice control, said Mike Arquines, co-founder of Mostra Coffee in San Diego. Taking dilution and final texture into consideration step of the way is the difference between a smooth and creamy drink and a gritty, crushed ice mess.

David Duron, co-founder of Hawaii-based coffee roaster Brazen Hazen, urges frozen coffee enthusiasts to freeze coffee in ice cube trays and use those instead of regular ice cubes.

From an equipment standpoint, Choe suggests using a blender tamper, which will crush ice more evenly: It makes a huge difference in making the smoothest frozen coffee.

Milk And Milk Substitutes

For a creamier flavor, use evaporated milk, half-and-half, or heavy cream instead of regular milk. Avoid the temptation to add a lot of milk or its substitute as it will over-dilute the coffee. Generally, you want to stay below a ratio of 1:2 for milk to coffee.

Personally, I prefer using two ounces of milk or milk substitute per 5-6 ounces of coffee. Adding an ounce of condensed milk gives a fluffy finish.

How Do You Make Coffee Ice Cubes

As I said, coffee ice cubes are the best use for frozen coffee, they work in a few different places that Im going to talk about later and you dont reheat them at all so dont have to face the not so nice coffee flavor anymore.

But making them isnt as easy as pouring them into an ice cube tray and leaving them in the freezer theres an important extra step.

Step 1. Brew your coffee as normal, drink what you can then allow the leftovers to cool down. Putting hot coffee into the freezer isnt good for whatever else youve got in there, causes the freezer to work extra hard, and wastes a lot of power. You can, of course, put hot coffee in but its not a good idea.

Step 2. Pour into a sealable ice cube tray, this is the most important step, if youre going to be doing it regularly Id look at getting a sealable ice cube tray with a lid that you can close but if not you can cover it in saran wrap.

This is important because coffee is an odor magnet, you can use coffee beans to deodorize your refrigerator its so good at deodorizing. So you must cover coffee up any time youre storing it otherwise youll end up with coffee that tastes slightly off whatever else happens to be in your freezer.

Smells are more minor in the freezer but its still worth covering so that the smell doesnt leak into the coffee.

Step 3. Freeze it! If its a normal-sized ice cube tray its going to take about 4 hours for your brewed coffee to completely freeze. After that, its ready to use.

How To Make A Blended Iced Mocha

Ive made this drink several different ways. Ive used straight liquid and added ice. Ive frozen the coffee into cubes and then added the almond milk. But my favorite way is to freeze the Almond Breeze® Chocolate first, then add to the blender with cold, liquid coffee. Ive found this step simply makes the beverage creamier.

Most often Ill need to add more Almondmilk after blending to thin it out, so have up to 4 ounces more on hand to do so. The amount will vary depending on the size and of your cubes, how frozen they are, and the power of your blender.

I discovered these silicone freezer trays at Ikea. Because theyre slender and smaller, they whiz up easier in the blender than the larger blocks produced by traditional freezer trays. And theyre flexible and bend, so popping out the frozen almond milk iswella breeze.

Get it? Its a breeze? With Almond Breeze? I know. Im a terrible joke teller.

Ive found that sweetening the hot coffee with the sugar before letting it cool suits my sweet tastebuds. But if you prefer your mocha even sweeter, simply stir in a bit of simple syrup.

To make simple syrup, stir 1 tablespoon of sugar into 1 tablespoon of boiling water, cool, and add to the drink. You dont want to add straight sugar into the blended drink because it wont dissolve.

And if you have a few more extra calories to spare, be like Smudge and add whipped cream and chocolate sauce, then slurp your way to the bottom through the biggest straws you can find.

How Do You Make Iced Coffee

Youll need a tall glass and a spoon long enough to reach the bottom of that glass.

Fill that glass full to the rim with ice. If you really want to get serious about your iced coffee, you can make ice cubes out of coffee too. Then you wont get that watered-down effect. And if youre into that flavored sort of coffee then go for it.

Pour room temperature coffee into the glass.

Fill it almost to the top.

Pour in the white stuff. Heres where you get to make a big decision. Do you want to go all out and make this a decadent treat? If so, then add cream or half & half. If you want to go a little lighter, use whole milk or fat-free half & half. And lighter still, use nonfat milk.

Take a moment to watch the swirls sink to the bottom and mix in with the coffee. Its a magical moment. ð

Add a couple spoonfuls of sugar or whatever sort of sweetener you usually add to your coffee. In the recipe notes below, I share how to make sugary simple syrup in case you prefer to use that instead of granulated white sugar.

    Stir it all up!

Add a purple straw. If youre a straw person, that is. And drink up!
