Design: Compact Flawless Design
The Nespresso Vertuo is beautifully designed. We bought it in chrome, which complements the rest of our kitchen appliances perfectly, but it also comes in titanium, red, black, and black matte. It looks both modern and sleek, yet still maintains a uniqueness that fits the Nespresso brand. The Aeroccino3 milk frother matches the main unit perfectly.
Besides its look, we also loved how compact this machine is, measuring 8.32 x 11.91 x 11.93 inches. We found that it didnt take up much counter space at all, which was convenient as many espresso machines tend to take up a lot of room. The separate milk frother is also compact and can easily fit right beside the main unit. Due to its small size, this machine is designed to make one coffee beverage at a time. Since we dont have a large household, a single-serve brewer has worked out well for our purposes.
One inconvenient feature of the Nespresso Vertuo is that the user must purchase Vertuo capsules in order to use this machine. Other Nespresso capsules will not work with this machine, so the user has to be diligent in purchasing the right kind of capsules. And because they are so niche, the user will likely need to purchase the capsules online, as many stores don’t carry them yet.
The Nespresso heats up in only 15 seconds, which is extremely fast.
Way Of Resetting Nespresso Essenza Mini And Essenza Plus
You can reset both of these machines by following the below-mentioned steps.
The Method
- Ensure that the machine is switched off.
- For 5 seconds, press and hold the lungo button.
- Hold up for the LED to blink three times. This indicates that the machine has been restarted.
- The lights will blink normally as they do when the machine heats up. At this point, the machine is good to go.

Coffee Brewing And Taste

In terms of coffee taste, both Vertuo machines make perfectly blended coffee. But, my vote goes to Nespresso Vertuo Plus because it can make better crema. Its creamier and more consistent. Also, this machine makes hotter coffee compared to the Next.
Hypothetically, the taste should be near-identical because both machines use the same VertuoLine technology. However, I found Vertuo Next coffee has a more bitter flavor, while Vertuo Plus coffee tastes a little sweeter, especially if you make a milk drink. I noticed Nespresso Vertuo Next takes about 10 seconds longer to brew coffee compared to Nespresso Vertuo Plus, which could mean that Vertuo Next extracts more flavors. This results in a bitter drink with a bubblier, more aerated crema.

How Do I Reset My Nespresso Vertuoplus
If your Nespresso VertuoPlus is not functioning properly, you may need to reset it. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Unplug the machine from the power outlet.
2. Wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
3. Press and hold the Espresso and Lungo buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds. The machine will now be reset and ready to use.
Setup Process: Takes About 10 Minutes Very Simple
The setup for the Nespresso Vertuo is simple and fast. The user manual advises cleaning the water tank before filling it with fresh water for the first time. A middle button on the coffee head turns the machine on. The entire cleaning process took about 10 minutes.
This machine also comes with the Aeroccino3 milk frother, which also needs to be cleaned by hand before using it for the first time. This includes the lid, seal, whisk, mixer , frothing spring , and the interior of the milk frother.

Price: Worth The High Price
The Nespresso Vertuo Next retails for around $209, which is certainly higher than the cost of an average coffee machine but lower than an at-home espresso machine. Considering this espresso machine can brew several different espresso drinks, the price is more than fair.

First Time Use The Coffee Machine
When we start with the new machine we need to rinse the system first. Fill the tank with water. Turn on the machine by pushing the button on the top. Close the top of the machine and place a large enough container under the spout. The container should be 12.5 oz or larger. Press the top button 3 times. Are Nespresso Vertuo Next For You
A couple important notes:
- The Vertuo Next is Nespressos newest VertuoLine model, but instead of going bigger/better, they went smaller. It has the slimmest width at just 5.5 but otherwise is the least feature-rich of every model.
- Youd think the VertuoPlus and VertuoPlus Deluxe would be better than the regular Vertuo, but that isnt the case. Sure, the VertuoPlus Deluxe has the largest reservoir of the three at 57 oz, but the Vertuo has a larger spent capsule container and a 1350W heating element with a 15-second heat-up speed.
Of the 5 VertuoLine models, the Vertuo Next is the slimmest and is ideal if youre looking for a model that doesnt take up much space.
If the downsides above scared you off a VertuoLine machine, check out the Nespresso Essenza Plus. It has a 34 oz reservoir with preset brew sizes for 1.35 oz espresso, 3.70 oz lungo, 5.05 oz Americano, and 6.75 oz Americano XL in a slimmer, 4.7 wide model.
But again, if youre repeatedly going to be brewing full-sized coffees then theres nothing wrong with getting a VertuoLine machine.
That said, while we prefer Nespresso to every other single-serve brand, perhaps something like the Keurig K-Cafe is more your speed. Like Nespresso VertuoLine machines, the K-Cafe brews both espresso drinks and full-sized coffees, except the K-Cafe is better at coffees than espresso drinks whereas Nespresso is better at espresso drinks than coffees.

Nespresso Vertuo Not Working
If your Nespresso Vertuo is not working and has a blinking red light, then it may simply need a break. Try unplugging it from the wall for a minimum of 15-30 minutes and then replugging it after the allotted amount of time. Hopefully, unplugging it fixes the problem, but if not, then you need to troubleshoot further.

The Vertuo Plus only makes black coffee. If you want a pod machine to make milk-based drinks with both coffee and milk from pods, such as lattes and cappuccinos, you might want to look at a Nescafe Dolce Gusto machine. Weve reviewed the Genio S Plus and the Piccolo XS, among others.
Or you can buy a separate frother. Nespresso makes the Aeroccino 3, an automatic milk frother and heater that looks a little like a fancy tin can. It stands 19cm tall on a diameter base of 9cm, comes in three colours, and you can buy a set that includes the Vertuo Plus and the Aeroccino together, and at the time of writing Nespresso is offering the frother for free when you buy the machine.

To get started, rinse the inside of the Aeroccino out, plug it in, pour in your milk, depending on whether you want a single latte or two cappuccinos, pop on the lid, and press a button. Within a minute, your milk will be hot and wonderfully frothy we are talking soft meringue peaks of fine, smooth froth. If you want frothed cold milk, you simply depress the button for two seconds.
The Aeroccino is tremendously good at what it does, which it ought to be for a RRP of £79/$99. But we can say that, if you are a milky coffee or hot chocolate fanatic, its really worth looking at this milk frother. You can buy it here.

What Is The Caffeine Content In Nespresso Coffee Pods
According to Nesspresso.com the caffeine content in Nespresso coffee pods is within the range of 50-100 mg per cup. This includes Original Espressos and Espresso Lungos, and Vertuo Espressos, Gran Lungos, and Double Espressos. Based on their Robusta content, the following are exceptions: Vertuo Espresso Diavolitto contains 150 mg of caffeine, and Original Kazaar and Professional Ristretto Intenso contain 120 mg per cup. All Vertuo coffees have a range of 170-200 mg per cup. As coffee is a live product, caffeine content may vary, and so they are only able to provide a range of caffeine in order to be as accurate as possible.
Nespresso also offers coffee capsules decaffeinated coffee capsules. Decaffeinated capsules have a red ring around and it is easy to recognize from the bunch if we keep the capsules in a holder. Also, Nespresso has a Half Caffenato capsule with a reduced amount of caffeine in a coffee.
Is The Vertuo Better Than The Original Nespresso
In our opinion, the Original line of Nespresso machines is better than the Vertuo Line, for the following reasons:
- OriginalLine machines accept third party capsules, widening your coffee choice.
- OriginalLine machines are compatible with reusable Nespresso pods, making the OriginalLine machines more environmentally friendly.
- The cost of OriginalLine coffee pods is lower, and third party pods even lower as low as $0.35. The VertuoLine pods cost around $1.20.
- OriginalLine machines brew using 19 bars of pressure, resulting in bolder brews that resemble more true espresso.
- There are higher end machines within the OriginalLine, such as the Gran Lattissima which automatically steams and froths milk, or the Creatista Plus which has a steam wand allowing you to create latte art.

Vertuo Plus Design And Features

Before we launch into describing the machine itself, its worth noting that the people at Nespresso has really thought about the packaging design for this appliance. The box and inserts are tactile, recycled cardboard, and one box side opens out to allow you to remove the appliance horizontally from the box, rather than vertically through the top.
Inside, you will find the 4.58kg machine with the cable and integral plug, the water tank, the drip grid and cup support, a warranty, a safety leaflet, and the user guide.
The Vertuo Plus is quite a slim machine, and its not particularly tall, but if you place the water tank directly behind the machine, it is deep . To free up some worktop space in front, Nespresso has designed the moveable water tank to pivot about 40 degrees to the left side, which obviously means the footprint of the back of the machine becomes wider.

The only problem with this is the water tank is a touch wobbly on the plate when you lift the appliance, meaning that this coffee machine can be unwieldy to move around.
Having said that, the round transparent water tank with a lift-off lid clicks nicely into place and holds 1.8 litres. The power cord is a usefully long 74cm, and the chrome cup support is adjustable for cup sizes that span from espresso to latte.

How I Organized My Nespresso Vertuo Pods With Holder
I organized my Nespresso pods with the vertuoline coffee capsule holder you see in the photo above. I bought it on Amazon and am very happy with the performance and especially the price! The price is probably the cheapest I can find on the market. My Nespresso vertuo coffee pod storage is made out of plastic and has a metal rod it is best for my needs. The holder is easy to assemble, sturdy, and spins easily.
I was shopping for some time before making my decision. I was looking for a coffee pod organizer where I can place a variety of different pads and have access easy to every capsule I placed there. Another reason attractive look is because my Everie rotary coffee pod capsule holder looks like a Christmas tree to me and makes me good mood every morning! I rotate my coffee capsule organizer to make a decision on which coffee I like this morning and each of the 40 capsules I can easily access. It holds 40 capsules at a time but if I have to I can place a few additional pods on the top. My other pods I keep in sleeves in my cabinet.
*In the photo above you can see some of my coffee pods I placed in a plastic container. I learned with storage in the container we can easily bend the bottom of the capsule because it is very fragile.

Nespresso Vertuo Plus Review: Ease Of Use
The slick design of the Nespresso Vertuo Plus is also mirrored in its everyday functioning. Put simply, I found the Vertuo Plus a joy to use, with smooth running across weeks of testing and very little setup to begin with.
With an incredibly simple one-button setup, you could operate this machine in a dark kitchen at 4am while running on very little sleep a fun experience I had the chance to test out last month. Simply add the pod, close the lid, add your cup, and push the button the machine takes care of the temperature and brewing settings for you, which not only means easy operation, but consistency between brews as well.
Initial setup simply requires cleaning through the system and takes around 15 minutes to complete.
It’s worth noting that you’ll need to take a little care not to allow anything to interfere with the lid closing. On test, a pesky plant placed nearby cost us some pods when the leaves caught under the lid. The machine still punctured the capsule, but couldn’t brew and when the lid was opened again, the automatic disposal system kicked it back into the used pod container.
Ease Of Cleaning: Low Maintenance
This machine is fairly low maintenance. The guide leaves it up to users to decide how often they want to thoroughly clean . The milk frother requires a little more attention and must be cleaned after each use, but we found it easy enough to do.
There is also a disposal or capsule container located on the right side of the unit that collects the used Nespresso Vertuo coffee capsules. This can be removed from the machine and emptied into the trash once full. We found this to be a very convenient feature because we didnt have to dispose of the old capsule each time we used the machine. It doesnt seem like much, but we found that it saved a step, making coffee prep that much quicker. A descaling alert will let users know when that needs to be done Nespresso sells descaling kits separately.
For a great price, you get a return of high-quality espresso beverages, quick prep and cleanup, and a compact machine that takes up little counter space.
