- The Vertuo Next is Nespresso’s newest VertuoLine model, but instead of going bigger/better, they went smaller. It has the slimmest width at just 5.5″ but otherwise is the least feature-rich of every model.
- You’d think the VertuoPlus and VertuoPlus Deluxe would be better than the regular Vertuo, but that isn’t the case. Sure, the VertuoPlus Deluxe has the largest reservoir of the three at 57 oz, but the Vertuo has a larger spent capsule container and a 1350W heating element with a 15-second heat-up speed.
Of the 5 VertuoLine models, the Vertuo Next is the slimmest and is ideal if you’re looking for a model that doesn’t take up much space.
If the downsides above scared you off a VertuoLine machine, check out the Nespresso Essenza Plus. It has a 34 oz reservoir with preset brew sizes for 1.35 oz espresso, 3.70 oz lungo, 5.05 oz Americano, and 6.75 oz Americano XL in a slimmer, 4.7″ wide model.
But again, if you’re repeatedly going to be brewing full-sized coffees then there’s nothing wrong with getting a VertuoLine machine.
That said, while we prefer Nespresso to every other single-serve brand, perhaps something like the Keurig K-Cafe is more your speed. Like Nespresso VertuoLine machines, the K-Cafe brews both espresso drinks and full-sized coffees, except the K-Cafe is better at coffees than espresso drinks whereas Nespresso is better at espresso drinks than coffees.
Differences Between Vertuo Models
VertuoPlus – The Plus is made of a high-quality plastic. The water reservoir can change position, swivelling to the right, left, or behind the machine body.
VertuoPlus Deluxe – The Deluxe range is also made of high-quality plastic, with a movable water tank. In addition, this model has a slender machine body, and a larger water reservoir. Some design elements have been upgraded, such as the metal rims on the cup holder.
Vertuo Next – The Next is again made from plastic, including 54% recycled plastic. This model has quite a slim-fit, and a heat up time of 30 seconds. This Next base model utilises a plastic cup support and a plastic pourer.
Vertuo Next Premium – The Premium has the features of the regular Next, however utilises a metal cup support, chrome colour accents, whilst maintaining the plastic pourer.

At the end, they reached the same conclusion I did after doing the cleaning and descaling processes myself and they are sending me a new machine and I will return the current one postage prepaid. As for the sleeves of capsules that were undrinkable? The maximum they would go was a $20 credit to my account. I am sharing this because my mistake was the attempts to fix the problem myself while under warranty. I now wish that I had called them in mid December.

This results in a bitter drink with a bubblier, more aerated crema.

Nespresso has two lines of capsule-based espresso machines:

For our money, OriginalLine machines are better than VertuoLine machines.
Why do we say that? We have 5 reasons.
1. Pump vs Centrifusion
VertuoLine machines do away with a standard pump and use rapid capsule spinning to generate pressure. In side-by-side comparisons, we think VertuoLine coffee is a little under-extracted when compared to OriginalLine coffee.
2. Coffee Temperature
Possibly a result of Centrifusion, we also find OriginalLine coffee to be a little hotter than VertuoLine coffee.
3. Crema Consistency
The crema is that hazel-colored layer on top of your espresso. VertuoLine machines have an airier, “whipped” crema due to Centrifusion. This makes it more pronounced and aromatic, but it doesn’t have the taste or mouthfeel of authentic crema. OriginalLine machines get closer.
4. Capsule Cost
Nespresso’s OriginalLine capsules are less expensive than VertuoLine capsules. It varies by capsule, but generally OriginalLine capsules are around 30% less expensive.
5. Capsule Scanning
But that doesn’t mean VertuoLine machines are worthless.
If you’re looking for a dual-use brewer for both standard coffee and espresso, a VertuoLine model might be just what you’re looking for.

Ease Of Use And Programming
Nespresso Vertuo machines are extremely easy to use. These are single-button coffee machines, so all you have to do is insert the Nespresso Vertuo capsules, wait about 30 seconds for the machine to heat up, put the cup on the tray, and wait for it to fill up with coffee.
Both machines use Nespresso Vertuo capsules. These capsules have a bar code that each machine reads to deliver a specific flow, water volume, temperature, and infusion time. This ensures a consistent coffee drink every time.
Vertuo Next Wifi
Vertuo Next is Nespressos first coffee machine that has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The extra connectivity allows the coffee maker to get firmware updates directly from your home network, including software-based features and fixes.
You have to download the Nespresso and create a login. Then, I connected my Next to the app. The process was really simple: click on top of the app , then choose the pair machine on the next screen, and place your phone on the Next until it connects. The process took a minute or two.
The problem is you really cant do anything with the Wifi connection on the Next. This is not a smart machine, so you cant push a button on it to make coffee , and there isnt much firmware to upgrade as the sizes are pretty set . The only thing I could do is set the water hardness size, which ostensibly modifies the brewing a bit.
