Philips 4300 Lattego Fully Automatic Espresso Machine Overview

The Philips 4300 LatteGo is a mid range model in this particular series of super automatic espresso machines. Its priced at $918.99 on Amazon, and what you get for that price is pretty darn good.

The milk system consists of a detachable milk carafe, which is super easy to clean since it snaps apart for rinsing. Whats more, the steamed milk and foam it produces is thick and light. That might be great for a latte macchiato, but may be a little too intense for a cappuccino. Still, like I said, at this price point Im not gonna complain.

The machine makes great espresso, ristretto, coffee and americano, all of which you can select via the TFT display with buttons. Plus, the Philips has three milk drink recipes to pick from: café au lait and of course the classic latte macchiato and cappuccino.

If you dont feel like making regular espresso drinks, theres a pre ground coffee bypass. That way you can use up that pre ground you picked up for guests last year. Dont worry, your secret is safe with me.

Most of the drinks are customizable, all the way from grind setting to coffee temperature. Thats the main reason you can get such nice espresso from this machine. Not to mention the 4300 also has two user profiles and one guest profile to save your customized drinks.

Cleaning is a breeze, too. Most of the parts are dishwasher safe, although I still recommend you hand wash them. No one wants dishwasher residue or etchings on their machine parts.

What Is An Automatic Espresso Machine

Automatic espresso machines do all the work of making espresso for you: they grind the beans, tamp down the grounds, heat the water and extract the espresso under high pressure. They will also clean themselves and give you automatic feedback and instructions. It takes all the work out of enjoying espresso and espresso-based drinks.

The machines dont use pods or plastic cups you get fresh ground espresso from exactly the beans you choose to use, and your coffee is made fresh at the moment.

Many automatic espresso machines will also have some kind of milk heating and frothing ability some use a traditional wand steamer while others have containers and tubes that do it automatically.

As I noted, these machines can be expensive. The Jura lineup will set you back about $2000. The Philips 3400 LatteGo by comparison is about $899USD/$1400CAD.

Refresher On The Different Types Of Espresso Machines

If youre new to the world of espresso, or youd like to brush up on your knowledge, heres a breakdown of semi-automatic vs. super-automatic coffee makers.

Semi-automatic coffee machines give you more control in the espresso brewing process. You control how long to brew espresso and usually can control pressure, temperature, and volume. Essentially, you have much more control over how the espresso will taste.

You also have to do more work with the semi-automatic, including grinding, tamping, and loading the portafilter.

Super-automatic espresso machines, also called fully automatic , require less input from you. These machines have preset options, so all you have to do is loads the coffee beans and press a button, and the machine will brew your coffee beverages. If you want the machine to do the majority or all the work for you, go for a super-automatic espresso machine. However, semi-automatic machines can make a more nuanced drink and they are cheaper.

Note: Semi-automatic and fully-automatic machines have some similar functions, such as the grinding presets and temperature shut-off for the milk wand. But, youll have more work to do for semi-automatic machines. Most importantly, youll need to place coffee grounds in the filter basket, tamp, and load the portafilter.

Warranty Policy And Guarantee

Philips 4300 Series Espresso Machine with LatteGo + Reviews

The best product should be a long-term and not a short-term investment. As such, investing in a product backed by a warranty against defects and lousy workmanship makes much sense.

Generally, a product backed by a one-year warranty or more offers peace of mind since manufacturers offers different warranty periods. That said, always ensure you know all the information about the warranty policy, including what it covers and does not.

Apart from the warranty, you should consider the return policy. Some manufacturers offer at least a 30-day money-back guarantee, but others dont. This allows you to return the product for free and get your money back.

+Grinder

Philips 3200 and 4300 are equipped with a ceramic burr grinder, which is a good design for me. According to the advertisements, these grinders can deliver even ground with optimum precision. Thanks to the 12 settings, which both grinders have, we can adjust the final texture and decide the strength of the espresso shot organically.

Here is how the grinders work for me: they are very close to their advertisements. I have gotten consistently smooth and even coffee ground. The operation is pretty silent as well. I dont notice any difference in this aspect. In general, Im satisfied with these machines grinders.

If you want a strong-tasting cup of espresso, set the grinding to a higher level, like 8 or 9. The final ground texture will be finer. And if you refer mellow drinks, set the grinder at a lower level, like 5 or 6, and the ground will be coarser.

I dont recommend going further than these setting numbers since it affects the regular operation of the machine. I have tried brewing with the grinders at level 12, and the coffee comes out very bitter yet watered-down at the same time. There is little to no crema at this point. With a lower grinder setting under 4, the ground is very coarse, which results in weak and sour shots.

Philips 4300 Lattego Vs 3200 Lattego

Conversely, the Phillips 3200 LatteGo is a step down from the 4300. Just like the Philips espresso machines above, the majority of the technical specifications are the same, aside from a few changes.

It functions on 60 Hz, 120V as opposed to the 4300s 50 Hz, 230V energy values. Additionally, it doesnt have a TFT display like the Philips 4300. Rather a small touch screen display along with buttons to choose your coffee beverage.

There are no user profile options, although the machine will remember the settings of your last drink. The aroma settings on the 3200 only have three levels, but the adjustable milk and coffee length and coffee temperature control are the same as the 4300.

Costing $799.00, the 3200 has a smaller drink selection with only espresso, cappuccino, regular coffee, latte macchiato, and americano available.

The LatteGo milk system and removable brew group makes keeping the machine clean as easy as, well making an espresso.

And what an espresso it makes! Still, I cant help but wonder if the grinder would have been quieter if Philips had included more sturdy housing. That said, theres just no arguing with this automatic espresso machines price tag.

Thoughts On The New Philips 2021 Models

What coffee drinkers can expect in 2021 from the Saeco Philips banner is a collection of 11 fully automatic espresso machines that offer a range of functionality and price points.

The new 2021 models seem to have drawn some of the best features from both the top tier Saeco machines with coffee personalization features and the unique LatteGo system of their earlier Philips models. The price point for the new models are mid to low range making affordability attractive.

The new releases also have a more attractive aesthetic. What has remained the same is the two year warranty offered by the manufacturer giving consumers the confidence to buy knowing that any issues they may face will be taken care of by the manufacturer. This is a clear sign that Philips stands behind their product and they have full faith that their new releases will deliver consumer satsifaction.

    My First Impressions: Well Designed

Philips 4300 Espresso Machine with LatteGo Silver EP4347/94

Anyhow, lets keep this Philips 4300 LatteGo review rolling. The machine itself has a relatively compact footprint, measuring just under the size of two sheets of copy paper laid side by side. Its tall enough to fit under most cabinets, too. For exact measurements, check out the specifications chart below.

Aside from that, the casing is mostly plastic with a spray painted mirrored silver trim. The only color offered for the 4300 is this back and silver style, which I can appreciate. Despite the fact that its all plastic, the Philips 4300 still looks good.

The LatteGo container sits at a slight angle over the steam spout, and is easily removable for cleaning. Speaking of cleaning, the water tank is also removable, as is the brew group and drip tray.

The Philips 4300 also comes with the lubricant for the brew group, a measuring scoop for the ground coffee bypass and an AquaClean filter, which is nice. More on that in a bit.

    Philips 3200 Lattego Setup

Youll need a few hours and the manual to set up the Philips 3200 LatteGo. I turned to Philips YouTube videos, as the manual was very photo-heavy. Luckily, once you get used to using the machine, its pretty intuitive.

The first steps include rinsing the machine, activating the AquaClean filter, and testing the water hardness. You can use a test strip to determine water hardness and input your results. How hard your water is will determine how often youll have to descale , but the AquaClean filter makes it very infrequent.

When you start the machine, it takes two minutes to warm up. The machine will do an automatic rinsing cycle. Youll know its ready for use when all drink icons are lit up.

Once these setup steps are done, you can start experimenting with different coffee drinks. The machine will take about five brews to adjust to the correct coffee-to-serving ratio. The first few cups I brewed were decent coffee cups but a little weak, so remember to give it some time.

When youre done setting up, you can also adjust drink preferences, such as strength, quantity, and grind settings, and add cold milk to make milk-based beverages.

One unique thing is the order in which the Philips 3200 series makes a latte or a cappuccino. It first froths the milk and then adds the espresso. This isnt how cappuccino and latte are traditionally done, and a coffee snob wont agree with this , but the order doesnt affect the coffee flavor.
