Nelson History And Salutations

Sustained and ordained as an apostle in April 1984, Nelson visited 133 countries dedicating 31 of them during his time as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. He was president of that quorum from July 2015 until becoming church president, and he served as chairman of each of the churchs three governing committees the Missionary Executive Council, the Temple and Family History Executive Council and the Priesthood and Family Executive Council.

Nelson was born Sept. 9, 1924, in Salt Lake City, the son of Marion C. and Edna Anderson Nelson. He married Dantzel White in 1945 and the two of them are parents to 10 children. She passed away in 2005, just shy of their 60th wedding anniversary. In 2006, he married Wendy L. Watson, who has been at his side since in his ministries as apostle and then church president.

Graduating first in his class from medical school at age 22, he received doctoral degrees from the University of Utah and University of Minnesota. A cardiothoracic surgeon, he helped pioneer the development of the artificial heart-lung machine, a means of supporting a patients circulation during open-heart surgery, according to biographical information supplied by the church.

He has more love for people, I think, than almost anybody Ive ever been around in my life, reflected President Henry B. Eyring of the First Presidency. He not only loves us he sees the best in us. He sees good in people to a degree thats really quite remarkable.

Mission By Year Of Formation

The following is a list of missions listed in order of creation date. The first mission presidents name and previous names the mission is also provided. Discontinued missions are typically the result of missions being consolidated with missionary efforts still continuing. Although, occasionally missions will be discontinued as a result of government restrictions, military conflict and/or other issues affecting the safety of missionaries serving in the area.

Members Of The First Presidency Who Were Not Apostles

There is no requirement that counselors in the First Presidency be apostles of the church. The following men served as a counselor in the First Presidency during the years indicated and were never ordained to the priesthood office of apostle. For example, J. Reuben Clark was not an apostle when he became second counselor in the First Presidency on April 6, 1933, but a year and a half later, he was ordained as an apostle and became a member of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles for one day, on October 11, 1934.

Relief Society General Presidency

The Relief Society General Presidency is called to lead the Relief Society, the Churchs organization for women, which has millions of members worldwide. The presidency is composed of a president, who is called by the President of the Church, and two counselors. These three women travel around the world to visit, teach, and minister to the women of the Church. They also counsel with other general Church leaders to strengthen the women of the Church and their families.

The Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized by Joseph Smith, the Churchs first President, in 1842. He called it a select Society separate from all the evils of the world, choice, virtuous, and holy1. He also taught that the purpose of the Relief Society was not only to relieve the poor, but to save souls2.

Today the Relief Society builds on those ideals and helps women as they strive to become true disciples of Jesus Christ. Relief Society helps women prepare for the blessings of eternal life. It provides opportunities for women to grow as disciples through Sunday gospel instruction, weekday Relief Society meetings, ministering efforts, and opportunities to serve and help others.

President Russell M. Nelson is now the oldest President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having lived 97 years, seven months and six days.

Restorationism And Prophetic Leadership

The LDS Church teaches that, subsequent to the death of Jesus and his original apostles, his church, along with the authority to act in Jesus Christâs name and the churchâs attendant spiritual gifts, were lost, due to a combination of external persecutions and internal heresies. The restorationas represented by the church began by Joseph Smithrefers to a return of the authentic priesthood power, spiritual gifts, ordinances, living prophets and revelation of the primitive Church of Christ. This restoration is associated with a number of events which are understood to have been necessary to re-establish the early Christian church found in the New Testament, and to prepare the earth for the Second Coming of Jesus. In particular, Latter-day Saints believe that angels appeared to Joseph Smith and a limited number of his associates, and bestowed various priesthood authorities on them.

Location Revealed For Lindon Utah Temple Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter

President Russell M. Nelson, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced in October 2020 the construction of six new temples, including Lindon, Utah.

• Tarawa, Kiribati
• Sao Paulo East, Brazil
• Santa Cruz, Bolivia

Utah currently has 15 operating temples. Temples have also been announced in Orem, Tooele Valley, Washington County, Layton, Syracuseand Taylorsville. One in Saratoga Springs is currently under construction. The Salt Lake City Temple is closed for construction, as well as the St. George Temple.

What To Expect At The Lds Church History Sites

For the majority of these LDS Church History Sites in Missouri there is not a lot to do. They are places to come, see, read a few signs and then move on. The thing that will take the most time is driving between the sites. You could bring a picnic to eat at Adam-ondi-Ahman or the Far West Temple Site too if you wish too.

However, at both the Independence Visitors Center and the Liberty Jail there are tours and facilities to walk through and even a kids play area. If your time is limited these are the ones I would recommend visiting.

Each spot has a unique spirit and is worth visiting if you have the time.

What A Wonderful Journey

Shortly following the Saturday afternoon session, President Jones and her counselors used social media to express their gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the Primary general presidency.

President Jones said she served with several amazing women. She voiced her support for the new Primary general presidency and will carry on heartfelt feelings for children worldwide.

What a wonderful journey the last five years have been! she wrote in a . Throughout my service, I have continually felt of the Lords deep and unending love for our children.

Sister Harkness followed suit with her own Facebook post.

My heart is overflowing with gratitude, joy, and peace today, she wrote. I testify that our Lord and Savior is keenly aware of us. He has strengthened me over and over during my service. I know that your faith and mine can be strengthened when we remember that we are children of God and that He loves us.

Sister Franco added her final thoughts as well.

What an experience these past four years have been. My heart is so full! Sister Franco wrote. I testify that God loves all of His children. Each one is precious to Him. He and the Savior have been with me every step of the way in this calling. How I love them!

First Presidency And Quorum Of The Twelve Working On Another First

Barring any changes, President Russell M. Nelson is preparing to preside over another first for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

ChurchBeat reader Seth Jackson of Billings, Montana, gets credit for bringing this to my attention. A few weeks ago, I wrote about the historic nature of President Nelsons temple dedication assignments. Seth pointed out that adding in those he has assigned to rededicate temples, too, provides a fuller, even more interesting picture.

He was right.

• Why President Nelson is assigning apostles to dedicate temples

President Nelson has assigned Elder Gary E. Stevenson to dedicate the Rio de Janeiro Brazil Temple in May. When that happens, for the first time in church history, all 15 members of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will have participated in temple dedications or rededications.

No previous prophets administration has come anywhere close to spreading that responsibility across the entire senior leadership of the church.

In fact, under President Nelson 10 of the 15 apostles have dedicated a temple for the first time in their ministries.

President Camille N Johnson Relief Society General President

President Camille N. Johnson said shes always felt at home in Relief Society.

I found sisterhood among women who were different than me, President Johnson said of her experiences in Relief Society, including 30-plus years in a family ward and in Peru. I love the vitality and wisdom of the women in Relief Society, she said.

President Camille N. Johnson will begin service as Relief Society general president on Aug. 1, 2022.

President Johnson was sustained as the Relief Society general president and will begin on Aug. 1. She has been serving as the Primary general president for the past year.

She found mentors and friends in Relief Society, including those who were older and younger than her.

We are all sisters with a shared experience in our desire to return to our heavenly home, but with diverse experiences that we can draw upon to help one another, President Johnson said.

One of her favorite callings has been to teach in Relief Society.

I loved the opportunity to engage the sisters and to be taught by the Spirit and each other during that sacred hour in Relief Society. It is there that we talk of Christ and rejoice in Christ and address matters of the heart, President Johnson said.

Kona Hawaii Temple Renovations Come 2023

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced planned renovations and expansion for the Kona Hawaii Temple, with the temple closing in October 2023.

The projected closure was announced Monday, Aug. 29, on ChurchofJesusChrist.org and was accompanied by an artists rendering of the temples exterior after the extensive renovations.

The renovations and expansion taking the temple from 9,500 square feet to approximately 12,000 square feet are expected to be completed by late 2025.

What Is The Difference Between A Temple And A Meetinghouse

The temple is a beautiful, serene place, and it is unique among buildings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Church members gather in chapels or meetinghouses for weekly worship services. There, they enrich their lives by studying the gospel they minister and serve among each other.

But they attend the temple in part to bless and serve those whove gone before them. Through the power of the priesthood, members are married for time and eternity and perform proxy baptisms for their ancestors who died without enjoying the blessings of this saving ordinance.
