What Is Iced Shaken Espresso

Think of iced shaken espresso like shaking a cocktail, but with no alcohol.

In this case, the homemade brown sugar simple syrup is shaken with the shots of freshly brewed espresso first to allow the brown sugar to blend in properly as opposed to stirring it. Its then shaken with ice to cool the coffee. As a bonus, it gets a little frothy at the top!

Starbucks says the benefit to shaking the espresso with the brown sugar adds another dimension to the beverage, creates a rich texture on your palate by just adding air, and mellows it.

You dont need a cocktail shaker for this! You can use anything with a lid on it like a mason jar.

Its the best thing the chain has released since the Salted Caramel Cream Cold Brew. I mean, Im not really surprised, are you? Starbucks is known for constantly reinventing the wheel of caffeinated iced drinks, and even when I placed my order, the barista said, Good choice but fair warning, this drink is very easy to get addicted to. Now consider this my warning to you.

The drink is a new addition to Starbucks permanent nationwide menu and features Oatlys plant-based oat milk, a nondairy milk alternative. I paid a visit to my local Starbucks to see what all the fuss is about and whether its worth the almost six bucks.

Introducing The New Starbucks Drink: The Iced Toasted Vanilla Oat Milk Shaken Espresso

It may technically still be winter, but that’s not a factor for the new Starbucks drink. And besides, lets be honest: Many of us are ordering iced coffee 365 days a year, no matter the temperature. And now that spring is finally, maybe, sort of arriving soon, we have all the more reason to pick up an iced bev.

Luckily, Starbucks is listening to what the people want. Following the success of the Iced Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso and Iced Chocolate Almond Milk Shaken Espresso, the chain is launching a brand-new shaken iced espresso drink, just in time for sunnier days ahead.

I got a chance to try the drink early and am thrilled to report its creamy, just sweet enough, and generally the perfect pick-me-upespecially for a midday coffee run. Even better, the Iced Toasted Vanilla Oat Milk Shaken Espresso makes a great light option, with a grande coming in at fewer than 200 calories.

As always with Starbucks, you have the ability to customize it any way you like. If oat milk isnt your speed, the toasty vanilla notes would play well with almond or coconut milks. Review Of The Starbucks Iced Toasted Vanilla Oatmilk Shaken Espresso

Yesterday, Starbucks launched a new plant-based drink, the Iced Toasted Vanilla Oatmilk Shaken Espresso. I stopped by the Starbucks in Lafayette, California to check it out on the first day it dropped.

I love stopping by Starbucksâ drive-throughs all over the East Bay. Itâs an easy way to grab a quick snack or drink, and drive-throughs were a life saver during Covid-19 lockdowns. Iâve taken to getting an Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso. Itâs a bit like a latte, but totally plant-based. The toastiness of the oatmilk goes perfectly with the rich, sweetness of the brown sugar. Itâs a nice pick-me-up thatâs totally dairy-free.

With the Toasted Vanilla Oatmilk Shaken Espresso, Starbucks is leaning into the plant-based food trend. The drink is their second attempt at building a latte alternative totally around the trendy and vegan oatmilk, which feels like itâs exploded onto the food scene in the last several years. Soymilk, stand aside!

When I heard that Starbucks had a new drink for the Spring, I immediately drove over to my local cafe to get one.

Is the Starbucks Iced Toasted Vanilla Oat Milk Shaken Espresso healthy?

While nutritionists arent exactly ready to call the Iced Toasted Vanilla Oat Milk Shaken Espresso a health drinkand Starbucks never claimed it isthey point out that its not terrible compared to some other Starbucks specialty drinks available. Its less of a sugar bomb than a lot of their other beverages, but 11 grams of sugar is still significant, says Jessica Cording, M.S., R.D., dietitian and author of The Little Book of Game-Changers.

Keri Gans, M.S., R.D., author of The Small Change Diet, agrees. As compared to lots of other Starbucks iced drinks, it has less grams of sugar and fat, making it a better option, she says. But Gans points out that healthy can be a relative term. It really depends on what you are comparing it to, she says. An iced espresso with without any added sugar would be the healthiest choice.
