How To Make An Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso Latte

How to Make a Starbucks Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso AT HOME

Making a Brown Sugar Latte at home is quite easy! You need about 5 minutes, a handful of ingredients, and youre good to go. Double or triple the brown sugar syrup, and store in the fridge to get you through the week.

Lets talk about how to make the latte.

  • Make the Brown Sugar Syrup. To a small bowl or cup, pour in boiling hot water then add the brown sugar and cinnamon. Mix until dissolved.
  • Brew the espresso. If using Instant Espresso Powder, make 1-2 shots according to the package directions. My jar says 1 tablespoon of instant espresso powder + 4 tablespoons of hot water.
  • Shake. Add the brown sugar syrup and the espresso to a small jar with ice shake until chilled and frothy.
  • Froth the milk . If desired, use a milk frother to froth the milk.
  • Strain over ice. Strain the brown sugar syrup and espresso into a glass filled with fresh ice. Pour the milk over the top. Garnish with a sprinkle of brown sugar. Cheers!
  • Is The Starbucks Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso Healthy

While this isnt necessarily a health drink , dietitians say its not a bad choice compared to other options. Its definitely lower in sugar than a lot of the chains other drinks, says Jessica Cording, M.S., R.D., author of The Little Book of Game-Changers.

Oatly is also dairy-, gluten-, soy-, and tree nut-free, and certified 100% vegan, all of which can be helpful if you have a food allergy or dietary restrictions, says Gina Keatley, C.D.N., of Keatley Medical Nutrition Therapy in New York City. Also, the Oatly milk contains some vitamin B12 which is an almost impossible nutrient to get if youre a strict vegan, she says.

But experts say there are a few things to keep in mind before ordering. A grande will still run you 120 calories, which mostly comes from the 13 grams of sugar, Keatley says. Theres not a lot of fat and protein to balance out that sugar, so you could be left with a blood sugar crash after having it, Cording says.

If you want to try the Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso, Keatley recommends pairing it with a fiber-filled snack to keep your blood sugar at an even level.

Overall, though, experts agree its best to think of the new drink as something you have here and there versus your new regular. A drink like this might offer a nice treat, but wont be offering much in the way of staying power, Cording says. But as a once in a while indulgence? Definitely.

What Type Of Milk To Use In Shaken Espresso

The milk is drizzled in at the end for some added flavor.

Best Starbucks Iced Latte Drinks Worth Trying

Starbucks Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso Dupe Skinny Mixes

Starbucks iced latte drinks are some of the best coffee drinks you can get, and they are extremely popular. However, what is an iced latte? And how does it differ from a regular latte?

Iced lattes and other cold beverages at Starbucks contain espresso shots combined with ice and milk and topped off with flavored syrup and/or syrups for flavoring.

Most stores use a syrup pump with flavor options such as vanilla, mocha, and caramel for their flavored beverages.

    What Does It Taste Like

One sip, and you’ll see why this iced shaken espresso is turning heads. It is refreshingly sweet yet packs a strong punch of caffeine. I was a little apprehensive that the grande, which comes with three shots, would be too strong for me . My barista recommended toning it down to two espresso shots, and I’m so glad she did! I didn’t taste an overwhelming amount of espresso, but it also didn’t taste like I was drinking straight sugar.

I will say, make sure to stir or give your drink an extra shake before taking your first sip. Because the oat milk gets poured last, most of the espresso sinks to the bottom.

    What Is A Shaken Espresso

Shaken espresso is lightly frothed espresso made by shaking espresso with ice and added flavoring like brown sugar syrup.

The shaken part of this recipe is to give the coffee a bit more structure, and it will provide the coffee and flavoring a great way to incorporate all their flavors.

Starbucks uses the shaken way of mixing the coffee and add-ins instead of popping it into a blender like they usually do.

The great part about the shaken way of making this recipe is that its super easy to do at home and doesnt require that many ingredients and equipment.

I must say, I was pleasantly surprised when I made this coffee and tasted it for the first time. It tastes sweet and creamy from oat milk. Its such a crazy good combo.

The added brown sugar syrup makes for a great addition to level up the flavor profile of this coffee and gives its unique character.

I think this is one of the best iced coffees that you can make for those summer days when you feel like drinking iced coffee. This is one of those recipes that you keep drinking all day long.

I Tried Starbucks’s New Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso And It’s Worth The Hype

Starbucks released its newest cold coffee beverage, the Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso, earlier this month, which immediately had coffee-lovers talking. The general consensus? It’s the best thing the chain has released since the Salted Caramel Cream Cold Brew. I mean, I’m not really surprised, are you? Starbucks is known for constantly reinventing the wheel of caffeinated iced drinks, and even when I placed my order, the barista said, “Good choice but fair warning, this drink is very easy to get addicted to.” Now consider this my warning to you.

The drink is a new addition to Starbuck’s permanent nationwide menu and features Oatly’s plant-based oat milk, a nondairy milk alternative. I paid a visit to my local Starbucks to see what all the fuss is about and whether it’s worth the almost six bucks.

    The Double Cinnamon Quandary

Yep, this recipe calls for two types of cinnamon: cassia and Saigon. Believe it or not, there are a few pretty big differences between the two spices.

First off, cassia is not authentic cinnamon. Yes, the most popular cinnamon in the US is imposter, but it tastes pretty much like the real thing, and many cooks actually prefer it to the real deal when cooking savory dishes.

Saigon cinnamon, on the other hand, is true cinnamon. It has a strong flavor and a bit of heat and is also much more expensive than cassia.

If you dont want to run to the store just to make this drink, use whichever cinnamon you have on hand, but you may need to play with the amounts a little.

    Brief History Of The Drink

Starbucks Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso Recipe | Iced Brown Sugar Oat Milk Espresso

The Starbucks Iced Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso is among the first of its kind released in early March of 2021. Its debut was alongside the equally popular Iced Chocolate Almond Milk Shaken Espresso. Their release was the companys attempt to attract more customers to the store.

Based on their statistics, there was a large demand for plant-based drinks and the younger generation seemed to enjoy a lot of their iced drink options. These two creations, the Iced Brown Sugar Oat Milk and Iced Chocolate Almond Milk Shaken Espresso were, therefore, Starbucks way of killing two birds with one stone.

Ever since its release the Iced Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso has created quite the buzz. It has quickly earned its place among the popular plant-based drinks to have at Starbucks. Everything from its appearance to its taste is worth every penny you pay for it.

As worth it as it is, the love for this drink can quickly break your bank if you let yourself get too addicted to it. Luckily for you, Ive come up with a solution that wont force you to stop your cravings or ruin your budget. But before we jump into the recipe, I want us to go through a few questions I often see people asking about this delicious drink, that I think youll find useful.

    Ingredients Needed For This Recipe

This coffee recipe is super easy to follow and make and doesnt require many ingredients. For this recipe, youll need:

    • Two espresso shots
    • Topping: cinnamon

Thats all there is to it. Youll also need a resealable jar or mason jar to shake the espresso. If you dont have either of the pots, you can also use a cocktail shaker to shake the espressos.

The espressos must be of good quality as this will be a big part of the recipe, so make sure youre using the best coffee possible. Ive listed a few tips for brewing the coffee below the recipe card.

After the recipe card, Ill also show you how to make your own brown sugar syrup that youll need for this recipe. Dont worry its super easy to make, and Ill guide you through the recipe step-by-step.

To briefly touch on the oat milk, you can use any oat milk you like. Starbucks uses Oatly oat milk to make their coffees. However, you can use any oat milk you have at home.

If you want, you can use the sweetened version of oat milk, but make sure you balance the sweetness of the coffee as the brown sugar syrup is also really sweet. I recommend using unsweetened oat milk for this reason.

Let me tell you a bit about my tasting experience after that, Ive listed the recipe for you to try. Remember, after the recipe card, Ill have tons of tips about the recipe, so make sure to read along.

Anything Else You Need To Know

This drink is not for the caffeine faint of heart. A grande packs a punch of 255 milligrams, and let me tell you, I felt it the entire day . If thats too much for you, Id advise lowering the total number of espresso shots, or simply sizing down. A tall has two shots, a grande has three, and a venti has four.

I also thought the price was a little steep for this drink one my usuals at Starbucks is a venti iced latte with various syrups, and it costs roughly the same even though its one size up. The new oatmilk is likely driving the price up on this one.

The answer is yes! To be honest I have only made this with coffee. I use Starbucks Medium roast unsweetened iced coffee to make this recipe. If you would prefer to brew your own coffee, you can do that as well, let it cool and add ice if you would like. I dont like to add my ice cubes immediately because it makes the coffee watery and I like my coffee super strong.
