Where To Buy Freshly Roasted Specialty

Now that Ive taught you everything I know about buying specialty coffee beans, its time I share with you the best places to find them. You have a few options.

  • Cafes Specialty coffee shops usually have beans from their roasting partner available for sale. The selection is usually limited and sometimes theyre not as fresh as is ideal.
  • Direct From Roaster Many roasters have their own facilities that they sell freshly roasted coffee from. This is a good way to maximize freshness, but youre still limited to the origins sourced by a single roaster.
  • Online Buying beans online opens up a diverse world of coffee origins and flavors that few individual roasters can achieve. Sadly, few online stores actually sell coffee thats roasted-to-order.

So wheres the best place to get both benefits of diversity and freshness?

Allow me to introduce you to the JavaPresse Coffee Club.

We source coffee beans from some of the best coffee farms across the globe. Then we roast them like craftsmen and and ship the beans directly to you within two hours – so you know you’re getting the freshest coffee possible.

That means you get the beans just 2-3 days after being roasted, which is probably fresher than youd even find on the shelves of a roasters office or cafe.

Many of our offerings are Bird-Friendly certified or approved by the Rainforest Alliance. A couple of them are certified organic of certified Fair Trade. And several of them we sourced via the direct trade model.

For Koa Coffee, 1997 was a magical year. It was the year Cathy, and Marin Artuckovich started their coffee plantation. It was and still is a family-run operation, located in the Kona Coffee Belt of the Mauna Loa region of Hawaii. This plantation has taken off like a rocket and has become one of the worlds most respected gourmet coffee brands.

This brand sells Koa coffee beans. The beans come from the Koa tree, which grows naturally out of the islands volcanic rock. The tree is marked by a natural red coloration, which is a natural consequence of being grown in the volcanic rock. The strength of these trees is used by Hawaiian natives, and it is a massive part of the Hawaiian culture.

You may have never heard Koa Coffee, and thats OK. But its got a fantastic history. Back in 2001, it was named Best Coffee in the USA by Forbes. And, it took home the first-place spot at the Gevalia Kona Coffee Cupping Competition the following year.

The plantation on which the coffee is sourced is fully integrated. All growth, processing, and roasting happen at the same spot. This is great as it ensures we know where everything comes from.

The Coffee Variety To Look Out For

How to buy the best coffee machine – Which?

When youre looking at a genetic family tree for plants, theres a level thats underneath species: varieties. These are essentially genetic sub-species. Planting specific varieties can have major impacts on the farm-level, but most of them taste pretty much the same. There are a couple outliers, however.

The geisha variety is one of these outliers. The variety was brought from Ethiopia to Panama in the early 1900s, but was lost among the changing farm lines. In the early 2000s, the farm Hacienda La Esmeralda rediscovered the plant on its farm and began to grow it commercially.

Beans from this variety have a unique and exotic acidity that enhances the vibrant floral aromas. In the last twenty years, this variety has captured the imagination of the coffee world. Its certainly one you should trythrough you should be prepared to pay a pretty penny for it.

Coffee Roasting And Types Of Roasts

Besides coffee type and origin, another critical aspect to understand when choosing the best coffee beans on Amazon is the type of roast. One coffee bean brand may have Light Roast on its package, while another one claims to be a medium or dark roast. What does this terminology mean, and should you care?

The word roast is derived from roasting. Coffee roasting is the process of heating green coffee cherry seeds while swirling them. This process is what gives the coffee you brew at home its characteristic flavor and taste.

Green, unroasted coffee cherries have a similar make-up to roasted coffee beans in terms of sugar content, acidity, and caffeine. However, unroasted coffee beans dont have the taste of coffee until they are roasted.

Worth noting, there is more to simply adding coffee cherries in a heating basket. This process is an art and a science that requires a perfect balance of the right temperature and perfect heating duration.

Tips For Enjoying Espresso Beans

12 Best Coffee Beans of 2020

Whatever espresso beans you select, here are a few things to be aware of to get the best out of them. This should be obvious, but you should already have a quality espresso machine. Duh.

Make sure you use a fine grind good espresso machines require a very fine grind. This is another way to compensate for the lower brewing temperature finer grinds offer a faster extraction, which helps balance the flavor.

Look at the crema for a clue to your grind.

One key about whether your espresso is ground finely enough: keep an eye on the crema, that golden layer at the top of the cup. . If your crema is thin or has too many large bubbles in it, try a finer grind. You should be able to make an adjustment on automatic espresso machines with built-in grinders. You can, of course, order your espresso pre-ground its not the best choice, but better than too coarse a grind. On another note, having pre-ground espresso beans makes for an instant espresso powder.

Learn to tamp properly.

In addition to getting the grinds fine enough, you need to make sure youre tamping the filter basket properly. Tamping affects how quickly the water flows through the puck when you pull a shot. You need 30 pounds of pressure to ensure that the grinds are packed closely enough that they will extract properly too little pressure and the water goes through too quickly.

Be sure to pre-infuse your espresso.
