ASIAN/PACIFIC COFFEES

The large Asia/Pacific region is home to coffees with big and bold flavours that arent found anywhere else. Including Indonesia, China, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, Thailand and India, the region encompasses a wide range of climates, topographies and distinctive coffees.

Brewing a coffee from Asia/Pacific? Youre in for a treat. Youre likely to discover coffee thats full-bodied and syrupy smooth with herbal, earthy flavours.

Responsible Sourcing Tastes Best

Our approach necessitates another level of selectivity which concerns the sustainability of the coffee tree and coffee world in general.

To address the issue of coffee’s future, we created the Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality Program in 2003 in conjunction with the non-profit, Rainforest Alliance. This approach enables Nespresso to safeguard the future supply of the highest quality coffee, while paying farmers a higher income and protecting the natural environment. But our commitment goes beyond this it is about a long-term relationship and continued loyalty to the coffee farmers in the program.

Whats Next For Coffee Pods

There has been some growth for specialty coffee pods in recent years. Andre explains that this was the concept behind Morning. We started the Morning marketplace in late 2019 with a strong hunch that more and more specialty coffee roasters would be putting their coffees into capsules.

We observed top roasters from around the world like ST. ALi from Melbourne, Papa Palheta in Singapore, and Maxwell Colonna-Dashwood, who were all adapting the Nespresso-compatible capsule format.

However, with a demand for higher quality coffee, consumers also look for improved sustainability and transparency. When you consume more, you become more aware of the environmental impact and the search for quality, Andre says.

These two, plus convenience, are what customers look for in capsule coffees today. Its just that different consumers put a different amount of emphasis on each factor.

Sustainability is not a new topic of discussion for the capsule market. In 2018 alone, some 56 billion capsules went to landfill, with fewer than 5% of all capsules being recycled. In 2016, the local government in Hamburg, Germany banned capsule use in all government-owned organisations and offices.

The pressure is on for capsule companies to become more proactive in reducing their environmental impact. Packaging recyclability has been high on the agenda. Many manufacturers are using aluminium coffee pods to mirror the Nespresso product but also to encourage recycling, John says.

Is It Safe To Drink Nespresso Pods After They Expire

According to Nespresso, the pod should be drunk within the expiry date range for an optimum tasting experience. As mentioned earlier, each Nespresso pod box has been labeled with two dates on its sleeves.

One is the production date, which is the day when the capsule was closed with coffee inside them, and the expiration date indicates the limit for when it is best to drink the coffee. After the expiration date, flavors of the pod started getting lost, and the tasting experience wont be the same as with a freshly bought capsule.

Check the status of the capsule by pressing the aluminum cover if theres resistance, the coffee is still in the best condition. Otherwise, the loss of flavors has started.

Theres nothing to worry about health-wise, but you wont get a cup of your preferred taste. There is not too much difference between fresh and old pods, even if they are really old.

Old pods create coffee with less crema and a slightly flatter flavor, but it is not too bad. Additionally, bitterness or astringency clearly indicate that the coffee has oxidized.

The ending statement is that you can drink Nespresso pods after they expire, but it is highly recommended to use them within their expiration date.

Making Milk Based Drinks Cappuccino/latte

nespresso vertuo machine

Now lets say you want to make a creamy cup of Cappuccino or Latte using your Nespresso machine, how do you do it? The Nespresso coffee capsule only makes you the espresso, which is the base of the drink you want. In order to make a Cappuccino or a Latte , youll have to add the milk yourself, as well as any other additives or flavors you want.

Using a milk frother , youll froth your milk to your desired consistency then add it to the espresso. Heres a video explaining how to do it:

Nespresso also has some machines that automate this whole process, so the machine is able to brew the coffee, froth the milk and add it to the cup all automatically. The Nespresso Lattissima Pro is one of these awesome machines.

Best Light Roast: Nespresso Vertuoline Voltesso

  • Unique compared to other capsules

  • Delicious morning coffee

  • Too mild for some people

It may be slightly counter intuitive, but light roast coffee often offers more intricate and layered flavor profiles than dark roast coffee. This light roast is widely popular precisely because it features a unique blend of tasting notes. On one hand you get hints of creamy biscuit and, on the other, a subtle sweetness. Nespresso gives the Voltesso an intensity rating of four out of 13, and the beans are sourced from Brazil and Colombia. These gentle capsules are delicious whether they are used for an espresso shot or latte.

How To Make Nespresso Hotter

Theres a whole army of Nespresso buffs on YouTube that devote their days to testing out machines, but A2B Productions filmed a video with a tip so ridiculously easy, we dont know why we didnt try it before.

If you want hotter Nespresso drinks, all you need to do is make sure there are no pods in the machine and that theres plenty of water in the reservoir. Then, take a mug and place it on the cup holder before switching on the machine so that it runs hot water through the machine.

Running the hot water cycle first gives the machine longer to heat up and increases the temperature of the brew you make after something you might have noticed if you make two coffees in a row. We tried this handy hack and it works, every time.

Of course, there are drawbacks and thats because you essentially have to wait the time it takes for the water to run through the machine before you can actually start making the coffee youre going to drink. Plus, this simple little trick only works if you have one of Nespressos Original machine, as the newer Vertuo models dont let you run a hot water cycle unless youre deep cleaning the machine and that cycle takes several minutes. On most Nespresso machines you cant adjust the temperature of the coffee youre making and Nespresso will argue theres good reason too, because increasing the temperature of your espresso can affect the taste.

How Does The Nespresso System Work

So, how does Nespresso work? There are two lines of Nespresso machines with multiple machine options in each line. One line is the Original Series and the other is the Vertuo Series. Take a look through them and see which one will best fit your coffee loving needs as well as your kitchen decor.

Regardless of which machine you choose, they all offer the same options: a shot of espresso or a single serve cup of coffee. While the machines do make coffee, they are designed more for espresso type drinks, rather than multi-flavor specialty coffees. All Nespresso machines use coffee capsules also known as coffee pods. The Nespresso brand coffee pods can be ordered online through the Nespresso website itself or through your favorite online websites like Amazon or eBay. This makes them easily accessible and you can order them online so you never have to worry about running out of them and having a coffee emergency!

With the Original series line of Nespresso machines, you have the option just for espresso style drinks. With the Vertuo line, you get a few more options, which is important to note when making your decision. The Vertuo line gives you the option for espresso style drinks as well as lungo drinks, which are more like the standard coffee cup size. As mentioned earlier, the machines take different style pods and its important to pay attention to which line of machines you purchased from.

Growth Harvesting Processing & Roasting

It all starts like any company sourcing raw material. You would not expect Nespresso to settle for anything but quality. And so the journey begins on the farm.

Growth

Coffee is delicate, even when its still in its growth phase. A lot of factors must come together. When its still a cherry, coffee needs the right conditions, including soil, water, sunlight, and the watchful care of expert coffee farmers.

The smallest details are what give different types of coffee their unique flavor and aroma. Nespresso knows this all too well. Thats why the brand goes an extra mile, sourcing quality coffee beans in South America, Asia, and Africa.

Back to the earlier question: Where is Nespresso coffee from? I believe the answer is clear to you now.

Coffee thrives in tropical climates, with rich soils known as the Bean Belt. These conditions are sustained by adequate rainfall and warm temperatures throughout the year.

Nespresso is also aware that this coffee sourcing process is not set in stone. Due to climate changes and the growing demand for high-quality coffee, the brand has to stay on its toes in order to deliver without fail.

Harvesting

Nespresso coffee comes from the finest handpicked coffee cherries. The company works with farmers and educates them on how to take care of the coffee cherries during growth and just before the harvest.

Processing

Opting for a natural process all the way, Nespresso uses two different methods when extracting:

Nespresso Crema: Real Or Fake How Is It Made

As part of the Nestlé group, Nespresso has been providing us with different blends of espresso and coffee pads and capsules since 1986. It became a household name long before George Clooney offered his mesmerizing self for seductive TV commercials.

In the first TV ad featuring Clooney, he overhears two beautiful describing something as dark, balanced, unique, mysterious, intense-bodied, delicate and smooth with strong character and a Latin-American temperament, rich, deep, sensual and with a delicious aftertaste.

Naturally, he cant help but to ask whether it is their Nespresso they are describing what else could possibly fit such an elegant description, right? Turns out, there are things in life that are, indeed, smoother than George Clooney and, for many, its the range of Nespresso products.

Nothing will please a coffee enthusiast more than a steaming-hot, freshly brewed, quality cup of joe in all its variations a Spanish sombra, a French café au lait or the world-famous Italian espresso, served with the perfect layer of its signature crema.

Crema is the secret ingredient that keeps coffee-fans reaching for the tiny little cup. As far as Nespressos crema goes, there seems to be a big debate as to whether it really is as Clooney-good as advertised or a processed product that is simply marketed incredibly well.

Capturing Freshness: Safeguarding Aromas For Your Cup

Freshness aside, aluminium is infinitely recyclable. Nespresso Research & Development aimed to ensure that the material chosen not only locks in the aromatics we’ve worked so hard to secure, but that it is ecologically sound. As compared with the production of pri mary aluminium, recycling of aluminium products consumes as little as 5% of the energy and emits only 5% of the greenhouse gases.

Nespresso created the hermetically sealed aluminium capsule as the optimal way to lock in freshness.

Aluminium capsules were designed for their complete barrier capacity that protects around 900 volatile aromas of coffee. Sealing in this manner prevents oxidation and guarantees optimal cup freshness. From the completion of roasting onwards, all processing is under a controlled atmosphere in order that no oxygen should touch coffee en route to encapsulation. The material was also favoured because it is infinitely recyclable and thus not only maintains quality and flavour integrity, but is not a spent resource once used. Compared against the production of primary aluminium, the recycling of aluminium products consumes as little as 5% of the energy and emits only 5% of the greenhouse gases. As part of our vision, Nespresso has already put in place used capsule collection capacity for recycling above 80% at end 2013, reaching our target one year earlier than planned.

The Spruce Eats / Chloe Jeong

The story begins in Switzerland. The year, 1975. A Swiss engineer named Eric Favre was working for Nestlé when his wife, Anna-Maria, joked that her home country of Italy produced far tastier coffee. Whether it was sheer inspiration or a spark of competition, Favre began designing the first pod-based espresso maker. The married couple even traveled throughout Italy to study all things coffee during the prototype phase. Thus, Nespresso was born.

Half a century later, its one of the worlds largest coffee manufacturers, known for convenience and craftsmanship. The companys signature capsules come in a variety of blends, from light roast to dark to decaf, and weve rounded up our favorite ones below. Newer customers might want to double check what type of Nespresso machine they have, as VertuoLine machines only take Vertuo pods and OriginalLine machines only take Original pods.

Perfect Coffee Isn’t Something That Can Be Left To Chance

Perfect coffee pleasure, is no accident: it must be deliberately created, consistently and without compromise, cup after cup, by living our principles.

Along the complex path from bean to cup there are quicker ways of doing things than we do, and there are certainly cheaper ways. But there is no better way. Knowing a single faulty bean can taint a whole batch, we take control of quality down to the very last one with a deliberate dedication to getting the details right at every step of the way.

Quite Possibly One Of The Most Fluid User Designed Apps

So, without going too deep into my background Ill let you know just a few things. One, I work at a five star-five diamond urban hotel and have access to fantastic traditionally made espresso on a daily basis. Two, Nespresso coffee is as good if not better than this espresso. Also, the milk frothing device that came with our Vertuo bundle is amazingly consistent at providing fantastic foamed milk. I know the amount of technique and patience it takes for an individual to master using a steam wand and IT IS NOT AN EASY technique to perform. So, that a machine can produce professional results with the touch of a button is the sign of some highly intellectual engineering kudos on that. Lastly, for the app itself, its a joy to use. From remembering previous orders, keeping information secure, streamlining the ordering process and ease of use, and the timeliness of the orders arriving is hands down some of the best customer service around. If youre thinking about an upgrade from your single serve coffee machine, look no further. Also, beware when you travel from the comfort of your kitchen and are forced to drink lesser coffees again, as it will most likely be all the time. Nespresso is THAT good.
