Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints , also called Mormonism, church that traces its origins to a religion founded by Joseph Smith in the United States in 1830. The Latter Day Saint movement is the collection of independent church groups that trace their origins to a Christian Restorationist movement founded by Joseph Smith in the late 1820s.
Collectively, these churches have over 16 million members, although about 98% belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints . The predominant theology of the churches in the movement is Mormonism, which sees itself as restoring the early Christian church with additional revelations.
A minority of Latter Day Saint adherents, such as members of Community of Christ, have been influenced by Protestant theology while maintaining certain distinctive beliefs and practices including continuing revelation, an open canon of scripture and building temples. Online records show Aldrich living at an apartment complex address in Colorado Springs. Online records indicate Aldrich shares that address with his mother, Laura Voepel, 44, who works as a support engineer and previously lived in California.
The Washington Post reported that Aldrich had a tumultuous past, growing up Nicholas Brink in San Antonio, Texas. Aldrichs mother was arrested for suspected arson when the accused gunman was 12, although she was convicted of a lesser charge, The Post reported.

Anderson Aldrich Was Previously Involved In A Standoff Following A Bomb Threat
New video tonight of the suspected Colorado Springs nightclub shooter being arrested back in June, 2021 after allegedly making bomb threats in the area. Video comes from a woman who was renting a room to Anderson Aldrich and his mother at the time. @KRDONC13

In 2021, Aldrich was charged in a false bomb threat situation in the Lorson Ranch neighborhood of Colorado Springs.
That coincides with the time frame in which Aldrichs mother was seeking a criminal defense attorney.
According to the June 18, 2021, press release from the El Paso County Sheriffs Office, the reporting party said her son was threatening to cause harm to her with a homemade bomb, multiple weapons and ammunition. The reporting party was not in the home at the time when she made the call and was not sure where her son was.

Eventually Aldrich complied and walked out the front door after a crisis negotiations unit became involved, the release says. Aldrich was booked into the El Paso County Jail on charges of felony menacing and first-degree kidnapping, according to the release. That document indicated a mugshot for Aldrich would be released in the future Heavy contacted the jail to seek that mugshot and was sent to a voicemail that is full.
The Gazette reported that Aldrich called an editor and asked for the story to be removed from the website.
The Gazette questioned why this arrest did not activate Colorados red flag law.

The Modern Format: The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter
By the beginning of the 20th century, many Latter-day Saints self-identified using the terms âMormonâ and âLDS.â The terms âMormon Churchâ and âLDS Churchâ subsequently came into vogue and were frequently used by both leaders, members, and nonmembers. In the 1960s and 1970s, Church leaders began to emphasize the use of the Churchâs revealed name or the short title âChurch of Jesus Christâ over these other nicknames.14 In 2001, the First Presidency reiterated the importance of using the Churchâs revealed name as a part of âour responsibility to proclaim the name of the Savior throughout all the world.â15 In 2018, President Russell M. Nelson led a review of the use and format of the name across all Church organizations and departments and invited Latter-day Saints and the general public to remember the correct name when referencing the Church and its members.16

Whats in a name? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, Juliet Capulet famously asked in William Shakespeares play. Many nowadays are probably wondering the same thing about the name of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its other abbreviations and nicknames. Why does it matter if you use The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Mormon Church or the LDS Church? They are all the sameand the Church by any other name is still the same organization, right?
But President Russell M. Nelson and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, who are the governing body of said Church, feel the need to clarify. President Nelson said in a statement,
The Lord has impressed upon my mind the importance of the name He has revealed for His Church, even The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We have work before us to bring ourselves in harmony with His will. In recent weeks, various Church leaders and departments have initiated the necessary steps to do so.
Thus, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is launching a major effort to use the full and proper names of the Church rather than nicknames or abbreviations. This will be no small task, especially given the popular Im a Mormon campaign, the famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the sites mormon.org and mormonnewsroom.org. Lord, we will that thou wouldst tell us the name whereby we shall call this church for there are disputations among the people concerning this matter, asked His disciples. The Saviors response was clear.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, why is it that the people should murmur and dispute because of this thing? Have they not read the scriptures, which say ye must take upon you the name of Christ, which is my name? For by this name shall ye be called at the last day.
Since the Restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ by Joseph Smith, this process of calling ourselves by the name of Christ has been just thata process. Heres a quick history of the name of the Church.
Professor Goodwin testified that, In a similar fashion to how the Lord did not provide Nephi and his family a prebuilt ship for their journey, Latter-day Saints were not given a polished and official name at the outset of the Restoration. Rather, they arrived at the name The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints through a collaborative and revelatory process that continues today.

What Is The Difference Between Mormon And Church Of Latter Day Saints
In April 1838, the name was officially changed to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Common informal names for the church include the LDS Church, the Latter day Saints, and the Mormons. The term Mormon Church is in common use, but the church began discouraging its use in the late 20th century.
How Do Members Practise Their Faith
There are two main types of ordinances performed in the church. Those necessary for exaltation , also called saving ordinances. These include:
- Conferral of the Melchizedek priesthood
- Temple endowment
There are also ordinances for guidance and comfort, including:
- Naming and blessing of children
- Administering to the sick
- Various types of blessings
- The dedication of graves
Temple endowment and marriage are the most significant ordinances, necessary for eternal life. Endowment is an initiation ceremony in which members make pledges called covenants affirming those made in baptism. The ceremony is preceded with washing and anointing, and afterwards, members receive their white temple undergarments.
Temple marriage is a ritual that seals in heaven relationships formed on earth, principally a man and a woman in marriage, all children born and unborn, and any they adopt, for eternity.
Proxy ordinances can also be performed on behalf of members dead ancestors, thus offering them the chance of salvation and the opportunity to be sealed in the family unit in the spirit world. The church provides genealogy services for this reason but also for the public.
Sunday is the Sabbath day for the church and members attend the sacrament meeting. Baptised members receive bread and water in remembrance of the Last Supper. Sunday services take place in churches, not temples. The services and churches are open to the public temples are not.

The Name Of The Church
When we break apart the nine-word name of the Church, it is amazingly simple yet descriptive. Elder Ballard explained,
The word The indicates the unique position of the restored Church among the religions of the world.
The words Church of Jesus Christ declare that it is His Church.
Of Latter-day explains that it is the same Church as the Church that Jesus Christ established during His mortal ministry but restored in these latter days. We know there was a falling away, or an apostasy, necessitating the Restoration of His true and complete Church in our time.
Saints means that its members follow Him and strive to do His will, keep His commandments, and prepare once again to live with Him and our Heavenly Father in the future. Saint simply refers to those who seek to make their lives holy by covenanting to follow Christ.
Thus, this is the restored Church of Jesus Christ in the modern days, with the same purpose and organization. Elder D. Todd Christofferson said,
Following the apostasy and disintegration of the Church He had organized while on the earth, the Lord reestablished the Church of Jesus Christ once again through the Prophet Joseph Smith. The ancient purpose remains: that is, to preach the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ and administer the ordinances of salvationin other words, to bring people to Christ.

Reach Out In Love To Others
There is something interesting, almost paradoxical, about this path youve chosen: the only way for you to progress in your gospel adventure is to help others progress as well.
To help others is the path of discipleship. Faith, hope, love, compassion, and service refine us as disciples.
But this love cannot come with expectations of repayment. It cannot be the kind of service that expects recognition, adulation, or favor.
A Great World Religion
The Mormon Church is more formally known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or the LDS Church. As the name indicates, Mormons consider themselves to be Christians, but some other Christians and scholars argue that Mormonism is not a kind of Christianity, but a brand new religion. Moreover, some observers suggest that the Mormon church is growing so fast that in a few generations, it will be counted alongside Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, and Hinduism as a great world religion. If thats true, its the youngest world religion, founded less than 200 years ago.
