Breville Espresso Machine Dual Boiler

Design: Commercial Features In A Home Design

The Dual Boiler | A detailed walkthrough of your espresso machine | Breville USA

The Dual Boiler offers several features that typically arent found in at-home espresso machines. For example, as the name implies, this machine has two separate stainless steel boilers and dual Italian pumps, which allow you to make espresso while simultaneously steaming milk. It also has a 15-bar pump systemthis refers to the amount of pressure that gets applied to the coffee groundswhich is widely considered the sweet spot for making the best espresso.

Another commercial feature on this product is its customizable settings for extraction temperature, shot volume, shot duration, steam temperature, pre-infusion duration, and pre-infusion power. This allowed us to make an espresso shot to our exact preference, and the Dual Boiler also has a hot water outlet that let us make hot water for tea and other hot drinks.

As for the aesthetics, the Dual Boiler boasts a sleek, upscale look that is sure to fit into any kitchen design. We have the stainless steel version, and it looks great with the rest of our home appliances. The only issue we ran into with this machines design was finding enough room for it on our kitchen counter. Its quite bulky, measuring 14.7 x 14.8 x 14.7 inches, and it weighs a hefty 30 pounds. We had to do some rearranging before finding the right spot for it.

Which One Should You Get

Now you have a better understanding of many of these espresso machines features. Unfortunately, you may still be left asking yourself: which one should you get? Thats a question were prepared to help you answer by examining various reasons to choose one or the other.

One obvious starting point is appearance. If its important to you that your espresso machine looks a certain way, you can start by asking yourself which one looks better to you.

Both espresso machines are visually appealing and work with many different environments. The Breville Dual Boiler will offer you some more flexibility with its brushed stainless steel and black color options, but the Lelit Bianca has its unique walnut handles and feet to fall back on.

You should also think about your experience with espresso machines, or the experience levels of anyone else who will be using it. If youre more experienced or youre willing to spend time learning, a machine with more advanced features like the Lelit Biancas multiple pressure gauges and flow control paddle will be preferable.

On the flipside, if youre more of a novice and you just want a beginner-friendly experience, the Breville Dual Boiler will give you what you need. Its volumetric dosing buttons will help you make consistent shots of espresso even when youre new to the world of espresso brewing.

Breville Dual Boiler Review Cleaning

Let me start by saying that cleaning and descaling an espresso machine is a lot easier than maintaining a fully automatic coffee maker. Still, there are a few things to take care of on the daily.

Make sure to keep a dedicated damp cloth handy for wiping off the steam wand. As long as you do this after each use, you wont see any crusty buildup. As for the portafilter and filter baskets, give them a rinse after each use. The same goes for the shower screen. At the end of the day, its a good idea to backflush the group head with water, using a blind basket.

The Breville Dual Boiler will let you know when its time for deep cleaning tasks via the LCD screen. Once every 200 shots or so, youll need to perform a cleaning cycle using Breville Espresso Cleaning Tablets.

As for descaling, Id recommend using Durgol descaler. The cycle will take a couple of hours, and the machine will guide you through the process.

The Dual Boiler Espresso Machine By Breville Bes920xl

Breville Dual Boiler Espresso Machine Review: Very Advanced

Commercial features and performance, in a domestic foot print.

At the heart of this machine is it’s dual boiler heating system. The boiler, for the espresso shot, is PID temperature controlled, while a separate steam boiler offers instant and powerful steam on demand. So you can extract your shot at the right temperature, delivering optimal flavor, while simultaneously steaming your milk to cafe quality.

Commercial Size 58mm Group Head

A 58mm group head is often thought of as needed to replicate cafe-quality espresso extraction. In a 58mm coffee basket, the coffee grounds are spread out slightly shallower than smaller basket sizes which helps to create a more even extraction across the ground coffee bed.

A larger porta-filter works best with a high-quality grinder, so consider this when moving up to 58mm machines.

Breville Espresso Coffee Makers

Every Breville espresso machine uses the 4 Keys formula, optimizing each aspect from grind to extraction and micro-foam milk texture. Our espresso machines are designed to use the right dose of freshly ground beans, ensure precise temperature control, optimal water pressure and create true micro-foam milk to deliver a harmonious blend of golden espresso and velvety textured milk.

Our next generation automatic machines allow you to simply swipe and select your café favorites on the touchscreen, while our manual machines give you the hands on control of a barista, like a pro. Coffee Quality & Versatility 45/5

The Dual Boiler | A guide to setting up your espresso machine | Breville USA

Thanks to features like PID temperature control and pre-infusion, the Breville Dual Boiler produces incredible espresso. Coffee expert and former World Barista Champion James Hoffmann agreed, even when comparing it against some well-known prosumer machines.

Its a capable machine when it comes to brewing good espresso.

Because the temperature is accurate and adjustable, you can dial in the ideal brewing conditions for your favorite coffee beans. For example, light roasts typically excel with a finer grind, longer and lower pressure pre-infusion, and a hotter brew temperature . And the BDB will let you play with all those variables in the quest for the perfect espresso extraction.

It also has a brew pressure gauge to help with the dialing-in process. By monitoring the pressure gauge, youll know when youve got the right grind size to hit the 9 bars of pressure recommended for the best extraction .

The Dual Boiler relies on an OPV valve to release excess pressure, and this will keep you from hitting too high a pressure, resulting in a bitter or astringent espresso shot. Unfortunately, this models OPV isnt easily adjustable, so its not straightforward to play with different brewing pressures.

Not just an espresso machine

This isnt just an espresso machine it also steams milk. And it does this very effectively, whether you want a creamy latte or a foamy cappuccino.

What Is Coffeedrifts Point Of View

The Dual Boiler is a top-notch machine, but the lack of a built-in coffee grinder is a drawback that we find hard to overlook. Also, this espresso machine has a steep learning curve, which makes it less suitable for inexperienced coffee lovers.

Thats why we at Coffeedrift are big fans of Brevilles bean-to-cup machines: multifunctional devices that let you experience the entire process, from bean grinding to coffee brewing to milk frothing. So you dont have to weigh out coffee beans or try out separate grinders to find the perfect match. Whats more, within the Dual Boilers budget, you have an excellent choice of equally top-notch appliances that are also a lot more accessible. So if you ask us, its definitely worth considering!

Digital Pid Temperature Control

Experienced baristas know that espresso preparation involves multiple variables, all of which can affect the quality of your shots. Seriously, even things like air pressure and ambient humidity can cause problems. Thats why its important to achieve as much consistency as possible wherever you can.

The Breville Dual Boilers digital PID temperature control plays its part by delivering hot water at a consistently precise temperature. This means youve got one less thing to worry about.

Whats really cool is that you can adjust the water temperature from 190-205 degrees Fahrenheit . That might not sound like a big deal, but it can make a huge difference, depending on the origin, roast date and roast profile of your coffee beans.

First Look Breville Dual Boiler

Breville has been making espresso machines for some time now. The Australia-based company has a good chunk of the domestic home machine market in Australia, where nearly 100% of the coffee consumed in the home and at cafes is espresso based. Where in the US, when you go into a Walmart you see a long row of drip coffee makers, in Australia when you go into a megamart, all you see is a long line of espresso machines.Brevilles main competitor in the Australian marketplace is Sunbeam same brand logo as the Sunbeam we know in North America, but not the same company. Sunbeam Australia is a fairly dynamic, upscale company producing some really good espresso machines. They have hired a former World Barista Champion in the past to help design machines. Their overall lineup is pretty solid, and a difficult target for other companies to match.Breville set sights on not only matching the best espresso machine that Sunbeam had to offer, but exceeding it and becoming the new standard against which other machines are measured. In the past, Breville would design machines using a lot of existing parts from off the shelf suppliers or from existing machines in other markets. More recently, Breville has being doing complete, from the ground up design and engineering on their newest machines, including the BES860 and BES400 models.

Also of note, we will not have the usual unboxing segment, as this machine is a late prototype, supplied by Breville for this First Look.

Breville Dual Boiler Vs Delonghi La Specialista Maestro

What can I say? I feel like its kind of unfair to compare any machine to the DeLonghi La Specialista Maestro. This is one of the most incredible espresso machines Ive ever used, and offers a staggering amount of control over your espresso.

Theres a wonderful retro-futuristic user interface, built-in grinder and even a smart tamping station. Add in the fact that this machine will automatically steam milk if you want, and its hard to imagine what else you could need. To top things off, the DeLonghi La Specialista Maestro costs just $1,399.95 on Amazon.

There are a lot of fantastic home espresso machines out there. Still, if this Breville Dual Boiler review has shown me anything, its that the Australian manufacturer is one of the heavyweights in the sector. Seriously, I cant really think of anything negative to say about this machine!

While the Dual Boiler might seem intimidating to beginners, I urge anyone to consider buying this machine. Not only that, the Dynamic Duo package with the Smart Grinder Pro included represents stupidly good value for money.

Its often the case that aspiring home baristas will start out with an approachable machine, then quickly outgrow it. However, from where Im sitting, it looks like the Breville Dual Boiler could keep even professionals happy and engaged for years.
