K-Cafe on your counter
Ive previously compared the Keurig K-Select Single Serve pod machine to the Keurig K475 Single Serve and then the Keurig K-Mini to the K-Mini Plus. The differences between them were essentially defined by small details in the respective machines and in their pricing. When comparing the K-Select to the Keurig Special Edition K-Cafe however, the differences are apparent and plentiful.
Just by the photographs you can quickly tell that these are completely two different machines that may have the same overall missioncaffeine delivery to your bloodstreambut they provide that service in two very different ways. One machine is basic, pop in a pod, brew your coffee and hit the road. The other gives you that at-home-barista feeling, while still providing the convenience of a pod machine.
Once youve chosen that pod life, the only thing to do is choose the right coffee maker for your pod lifestyle. So which machine will it be? The Keurig K-Select Single Serve or the Keurig Special Edition K-Cafe Single Serve?
What Is The Best Keurig Model For Home Use
For at home single-serve brewing, the Keurig K-Elite exemplifies the convenience and ease Keurig coffee makers are known for. Its programmable, fast, versatile, and has a large reservoir, checking all the boxes we look for in a home brewer. If you need something smaller, the K-Compact offers similar performance but with a smaller countertop footprint.
If youre looking for a way to make café drinks at home, the K-Café is slightly better than the K-Latte, in our opinion. The brewer is very similar, but the milk frother on the K-Café has more options and makes better foam for cappuccinos and lattes.

Keurig K400 Coffee Maker
The extra-large 70-ounce reservoir on the Keurig K400 brews two full pots before you need to refill it. Thats one reason this is our favorite Keurig drip brewer for office break rooms. Its not as costly or complicated as commercial machines but can perform at higher volumes than most Keurigs out there.
The handy color touchscreen allows easy adjustment of the cup size or brew strength. Having 9 brew sizes to choose from makes it very versatile. Youll also get full programmability if you want to save your settings or have it start brewing at a certain time each morning.
- Older model that may be harder to find
- Higher cost than other Keurig drip brewers
What Is The Difference Between K
A K-Cup is a sealed, plastic cartridge filled with ground coffee . When you brew, both the bottom and top of the cup are punctured to allow water to flow in and out.
A lot of people call K-Cups pods but this isnt completely accurate. A pod looks more like a tea bag: a sealed filter containing ground coffee or tea. These arent designed to work in a K-Cup brewer, just like K-Cups wont work in pod brewers.

Keurig K150 Brewer Commercial Brewing System
Lets start with the Keurig K150, a simple but versatile single-cup brewer ideal for small offices and business waiting rooms. Its smooth, clean interface is easy for customers to navigate, and it offers 5 cup sizes from 4 to 12 ounces.
A large 90-ounce reservoir limits the number of times youll have to fill it throughout the day. The reservoir is removable, too, making it easier to fill from a sink or water cooler. You can also put it in quiet spaces without it becoming a distraction since it doesnt make a lot of noise when its brewing.
- Not as many brew adjustment options
Coffee Creamer Brand Recommendations
We also like to keep a few liquid coffee creamers on hand because they taste so dreamy frothed in our coffee!
These are the liquid coffee creamer brands that are most commonly found in my refrigerator. They make delicious frothed cream of the Keurig K-cafe special edition coffee, latte, and cappuccino maker!

Make Your Life Easier Features 4/5
If, when looking at this large machine, your first thought was Oh no, it will be a nightmare to clean!, well worry not! The Keurig K-Café comes with many practical features that make the cleaning process super easy:
The milk frother, drip tray, and K-Cup holder are all removable and dishwasher safe.
The handy descaling reminder will also alert you when its time to run white vinegar or Keurigs descaling solution through your coffee maker.
While it lacks features such as the Hot Water button or the Quiet Brew Technology, the K-Café includes a couple more practical options. For example, this model has a Smart Start, which means that you can insert the K-Cup and choose the cup size before the machine is ready: it will brew coffee as soon as its heated up.
Theres also an Auto Off feature that switches off your brewer after 2 hours .
How To Make A Cappuccino At Home
As I mentioned, inside the frothing cannister of the K-cafe Special Edition Cappuccino, Latte, and Drip Coffee maker, there are two lines that are marked show you how high to fill the frothing cannister with milk to make a cappuccino or latte.
To make a cappuccino, you make the coffee and a shot of espresso . Combine those. Fill the frothing cannister to the cappuccino line and then turn it on to get it to froth consistency.
Add the frothed milk to your coffee beverage and you will have a thick layer of foam on top of the coffee and you have a delicious cappuccino!

Espresso: How To Make
The K-cafe Special Edition Cappuccino, Latte, and Drip Coffee maker can make espresso quite easily. You fill your reusable k-cup with your preferred ground coffee brand, pop it in the machine, close it, and then press the shot button.
Once you press the K start button, that will make you a shot of espresso, which you can then add to other coffee beverages or just drink on its own.

When Should I Replace My Keurig
The most obvious sign is if it stops brewing coffee. Unless you have a more expensive model, repairs of a Keurig usually arent worth the money, especially if the brewer is already at or near its 10-year lifespan.
You may also want to get a new machine if you notice the coffee tastes different. Problems with the heating element can affect the water temperature or brew time. If the waters not getting hot enough, it wont extract enough flavor and youll get a weak cup of coffee.
How Many Times Can You Use A Reusable K
Keurig sells a universal reusable filter. Made from durable hard plastic, these filters are built to last as long as a Keurig coffee maker.
You can find other reusable K-Cup filters that are made of a thinner plastic with a metal mesh filter. This style of reusable filter wears out more quickly than the more robust Keurig version. With the right care, they can last 5-7 years, so theyre still a cost-saving alternative to disposable K-Cups.

Best Brands Of Ground Coffee
A review of a cappuccino, latte, and drip coffee maker would not be complete if I didnt share some of our favorite products to use with our K-cafe Special Edition. We usually keep a few different kinds of bagged coffee in our cupboards, which we use to fill the reusable k-cups when we make coffee, cappuccino, or lattes.
Here are affiliate links to a few of my favorite kinds of coffee to keep on hand:
All of these brands make amazing coffee beverages in the Keurig K-Cafe Special Edition Coffee, Latte, and Cuppuccino maker! You can buy them ground, or if you prefer, you can buy them whole bean and grind them yourself in your coffee grinder.
Keurig Collection Eccellenza Momentum Bean To Cup Coffee Maker
The Keurig Collection Eccellenza Momentum is their top of the line bean to cup brewer for high-volume commercial applications. A larger 18 color touchscreen showcases the 10 drink options and 3 brew strengths, and it brews in 8, 10, and 12-ounce sizes.
The Eccellenza Momentum is built for high volume. It can easily make 150 drinks or more each day, with a direct water line and larger hoppers for more drinks between fillings.
Keep in mind this is a hefty machine. While you can drain the tank easily, it weighs over 100 pounds even when empty. For high-volume commercial applications, however, its the best commercial Keurig coffee maker out there.
- Grinder and lines require periodic cleaning and maintenance
- Heavy and difficult to move

Keurig Coffee Maker History
Keurig was invented in the early 1990s when inventor John Sylvan set out to fix office coffee. Instead of whole pots that sit on a warmer and get bitter, he envisioned a single-serve brewer, so employees could make a quick cup to order.
The first Keurig coffee makers used pods. In 1997, the K-Cup design was developed. That same year, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters signed on as the first roaster for these new cups. Their first brewerthe B2000, released in 1998was built for offices and plumbed directly into the water line.
Keurig moved from the office to the home in 2004. They werent the first company to do so, but the flavor and reliability of the Keurig home coffee brewer beat out its competition. By the end of the decade, they dominated the home single-serve brewer market.
Since then, Keurig has focused on improving its coffee makers and expanding the potential of the K-Cup brewer. This has included experimenting with different pod styles, such as the Vue brewers released in the early 2010s. Theyve also released K-Carafe pods for full pots and K-Mug pods for large travel mugs.
Not all of Keurigs experiments have succeeded. In 2015 they branched out into soft drinks with the Keurig Kold, designed to work with pods from soda brands like Dr. Pepper and Coca-Cola, but it didnt have the same success as their coffee brewers. Keurig continues to innovate, however, finding new ways to make drinks in both the home and office.
Troubleshooting Your Keurig Machine
If your Keurig has a display screen, figuring out whats wrong is a lot easier. Should your coffee maker fail to brew, look at the screen before you do anything else. You may see a helpful explanation like more water, please. There are also alerts for incompatible K-Cups or if the water pressure is too high.
On brewers without a display, if your brew wont start you need to investigate the cause. Start by making sure the outlet is plugged in and the lights are on. Next, check the reservoir to make sure theres enough water.
Keurig coffee makers wont start when the lid of the K-Cup slot is open, so double-check that its clicked into place. If it wont close, check the position of the K-Cup and inspect the latch area for any obstructions.
Checking the water, power, and K-Cup will fix most Keurig brew problems. There are also a few common issues Keurig owners should know how to fix:

Drip Coffee Makers Single Cup: The Keurig K
I wanted to review a single cup drip coffee maker because most of the time that is all that I want. I rarely drink more than one or two cups of coffee in a day.
I know some of you might drink a pot or two of coffee in a day . If thats your jam, this will still work for you and give you fresh coffee, a nice foamy cappuccino, or a delicious latte as many times in a day as your little heart desires .
I was always reluctant to get a k-cup type of machine because then you are obligated to buy k-cups forever, which is expensive, not to mention terrible for the environment. Then I discovered re-useable k-cups. I told my husband about it, hence I got my fabulous birthday coffee maker gift!
We all have our own way that we like to drink our coffee, dont we? Some of us like our coffee fully-leaded , while others prefer a more dilute coffee, like a latte. Some of us prefer black coffee, while others of us prefer creamers or coffee flavorings.
If you are a black coffee drinker, the main benefits you will get from the K-cafe Special Edition drip coffee maker is a great cup of black coffee and the ability to make a nice strong espresso. You can add a shot of espresso to your drip coffee to make it stronger or drink the espresso on its own!
Does Keurig K Cafe Have A Water Filter
The K Cafe is compatible with the Keurig Side Reservoir Water Filter.
Does Keurig K Cafe come with a water filter? Normally the water filter is not included with the K cafe so you will need to purchase it separately.
Making your own cappuccinos and lattes at home will bring you satisfaction and save you money. The Keurig K Cafe is super easy to use and has all the basic options you might need.
The fact it uses regular k cups and not espresso pods is a plus since you know youre always able to find the pods for your brewer.
But, dont expect the most amazing espresso crema or velvety froth. This machine just cant do it since its not an espresso machine.
If youre looking for a perfect foam, programmable options, or temperature control, a real espresso machine like Breville Barista Express is the best possible choice. But its three times more expensive than Keurig.
Important: If you have an updated kitchen, you might not be able to use this model. According to some reviews, it appears that the K Cafe machine can trip GFCI outlets. Its not something that happens all the time but its important to mention this as well.

How Many Times Can You Use A Keurig K
K-Cups are designed to be used once and then thrown away. There are two reasons you shouldnt re-use K-Cups. First, the amount of coffee inside is dosed for a single cup. A second brew will be extremely weak and will taste very bitter and flat.
Secondly, the brewing process puts holes in both the top and the bottom of the K-Cup. That means leaks and loss of pressure during brewing, which arent just bad for the coffee but could damage your machine.
You can find reusable K-Cup filters that you fill with your own ground coffee. If youre concerned about waste from single-use K-Cups, this is a better option.
Whats The Difference Between A Latte And A Cappuccino
The difference between a latte and a cappuccino is that the former consists of a coffee shot of espresso, steamed milk and a thin layer of foam, whereas a cappuccino has a coffee shot of espresso, less steamed milk and a much thicker layer of froth. Cappuccinos are often served with a sprinkle of chocolate powder on top, too.

Keurig K15 Mini Plus Coffee Maker
The mini K15 is a powerful single-cup brewer designed for the smallest spaces. Its no more than 11 inches in any dimension and weighs less than 10 poundsnot exactly pocket-sized, but easy enough to throw in your bag for vacations or business trips. Its unobtrusive on a desk or counter, too.
Youll get a fast brew speed with the K15, too. It takes less than 2 minutes for a 10-ounce cup and you can also brew smaller 6 and 8 ounce sizes. While the single-brew reservoir does lose some convenience points, its also what makes the machine so portable, so it has advantages, as well.
Considering the performance and the affordable price, wed call the K15 the brewer that offers buyers the best value. It doesnt have a ton of bells and whistles, but its an easy-to-use, reliable coffee maker for any space.
