That means black coffee is fine to pair with intermittent fasting. Technically it has about 4 calories per cup, due to natural oils and amino acids in the coffee beans but 4 calories is not enough to impact your fasted state.
That said, many coffee additions will break your fast. Milk, cream, collagen protein, sugar, creamer anything with calories will take your body out of fasting mode.
But as long as you drink it black , a morning cup of joe wont interfere with your fasting window. In fact, it may enhance some of the benefits of fasting.
Is Intermittent Fasting Safe
People can begin intermittent fasting for a variety of reasons. Some may begin to lose and manage weight and while others may be using intermittent fasting to address other health issues that could use a change in diet.
Regardless of reasoning, anyone planning to begin IF should consult and receive approval from their primary care doctor. If youre pregnant, breastfeeding, or have medical problems like, intermittent fasting may not be right for you.

Side Effects Of Flavored Coffee While Intermittent Fasting
Whatever type of coffee youre drinking, you need to remember it is a stimulant. The goal of fasting is to allow your body and your digestive tract to rest. Stimulating it too much isnt recommended, so try to drink at most 1-2 cups during a fast.
Coffee and flavored coffee especially can also stimulate the digestive tract. For some, that might be a good thing for others, it may result in issues such as diarrhea or bloating.
After suppressing your appetite and your sweet tooth for a while, flavored coffee might actually make you feel hungrier. After all, the flavors will make your brain think of various foods and they may also tell it to expect some energy, carbs, as it normally would happen if you were eating those foods. Since the drink has no calories or carbs, you may soon find yourself with more cravings than before.
Theres also another issue. Some people warn that the coffee beans used in flavored coffee arent always of the best quality. The logic is fairly simple. Good quality coffee beans are sold without any flavor enhancements because they taste amazing on their own. Low quality coffee beans can benefit from a lengthier process and even natural flavors. While this wont immediately hurt your health, it might not be the type of coffee you want to drink long-term.

Beckys Glucose Results: Equal
Her blood glucose was at 94 mg/dL, it went up to 105 mg/dL at 30 minutes, then back to 94 mg/dL at 60 minutes, and up to 103 mg/dL at 120 minutes.
It kind of went back and forth a couple of times over the test in both your ketones and glucose.
When we look at my results for Equal, they are actually very similar to my results for sugar.
Yes. Your blood glucose definitely went up a little bit, and your ketones came down a little bit.
Nothing significant happened, I didnt really benefit from it.

My glucose started at 94 mg/dL, it went up a little bit to 99 mg/dL at 30 minutes, it went down a little bit to 89 mg/dL at 60 minutes, and then at the 120 mark I was at 93 mg/dL.

Again, I did not seem to have a big glucose change with this, but it did drop me out of ketosis.
Overall, the results of our stevia test were not major numbers. They were kind of major for me, but not major in the long run.
However, if we compare that to my findings with just black coffee, the black coffee did not do anything to my ketones.
So, that is kind of a thing, but it is especially interesting when you look at black coffees effect on my glucose.
My blood glucose dropped 29 points with only black coffee and nothing else over a two-hour period.
So again, if you just look at this data, it does not seem to have done too much, right?
However, when we compare our results from black coffee with stevia to our results from black coffee by itself, I had a better ketone response with black coffee alone.

The general rule of thumb is to keep a space of six hours between your last dose of caffeine and the time you go to sleep for the night.
Sleep is crucial, and if you get too little sleep youll feel miserable, and it will reduce the impact of your intermittent fasting regimen, which could cause you to gain weight.
Keiths Ketone Results: Equal
So for my ketones, I actually started at 0.8 mmol/L that morning.
I was super excited, and then I realized that I had to drink coffee with dextrose, maltodextrin, and aspartame in it.
At 30 minutes I dropped to 0.5 mmol/L, then I dropped to 0.4 mmol/L at 60 minutes. So I was technically out of ketosis at that point.
Then 120 minutes I popped back up to 0.6 mmol/L.
So, that was kind of interesting.

The answer to this question depends on the type of fasting youre doing. Can you drink coffee while doing
Pre-surgical fasting? No, you absolutely may not drink coffee after the cut-off time youre given. Thats because the medications used in general anesthesia make it easy for stomach contents to regurgitate into the esophagus, where they can be inhaled. Not good. So, you should never eat or drink anything for several hours prior to a surgery with general anesthesia.
Intermittent fasting? Yes, you can drink black coffee if youre doing intermittent fasting .
