What Bartending Gear Do I Need

Top 5 Coffee Cocktails Best Alcoholic Coffee Drinks

For most of the recipes I outline very little. A shaker and a jigger are about it and the rest you might have like a mortar and pestle to crush additions, a zester or a mallet to crush ice.

If you are a serious bartender you might desire other equipment but these are the basics. The thing that surprised me the most in writing this article was how much technical knowledge of spirits and bartending you need to make a lot of different cocktails! I had to work on my technical descriptions so I could be sure I was using accurate language and not confusing anyone. Like what is Sambuca? Its anise flavored alcohol if you didnt know. Or what is a jigger? As I mentioned a calibrated measuring device.

Iced Drunken Mocha Cocktail

Chocolate and coffee go hand in hand, and this drunken mocha is sure to leave you with a smile on your face.

When you were younger, did you immediately come home from school, grab the milk and chocolate syrup, and make chocolate milk?

Well, thats how this one starts, so make sure the kids are out of sight!

After making your chocolate milk, youll need to add it to a shaker with espresso and Kahlua. Serve over ice with a dusting of cocoa powder.

Alternatively, you could turn this into a boozy frappuccino. Just toss everything into your blender and let it blitz until its nice and thick.

Adding cinnamon to coffee is such an easy way to spice things up . It could be a simple sprinkle over the top or a whole stick infused into the pot.

Either way, it adds such a lovely warmth.

But since were talking coffee cocktails today, we cant just add simple cinnamon to the mix.

So instead, youll grab that bottle of Fireball and try to leave enough room for the coffee!

Coffee And Beer Or Beer And Coffee

To those outside the home brew or craft brew market this might seem strange but it pairs very well! With this concoction I am really saying pairing beer with coffee and not coffee with beer. WHats the difference, really this is meant for when you want beer and are interested in something coffee like. THis is a great hot day, barbequing some sticky ribs in the backyard type drink. It also makes for a great compliment for those cold winter holiday meals be it ham at Christmas dinner or wings at the superbowl! My favorite beer to pair coffee with is a porter or stout. I had an awesome blonde coffee ipa one time in Portland, Oregan that I still dream of to this day!

WHats a quick recipe to make this? Pour beer, then coffee. Drink! Seriously the advantage of mixing your own coffee beer is you can dial it to how much beer or coffee you want. I would say a shot glass of coffee to one full beer is a good start. And best of all since you can use some tasty decafs I recommend here you dont have to worry about staying up half the night after having two or three of these!

Kahlua Cold Brew Tonic

25 Alcoholic Coffee Drink Recipes That

This cocktail is another one that Kahlua itself has developed . The name really says it all, as the cocktail relies on Kahlua, cold brew, and tonic water.

Cold brew coffee and tonic water has become a popular combination recently. The tonic water adds a new dimension of flavor to the coffee, while the bubbles are appealing too. The end result is much more interesting than regular cold brew coffee.

The addition of Kahlua makes the drink slightly alcoholic, while also making the coffee flavor more intense. This ends up being a very low ABV cocktail, as the alcohol content of Kahlua isnt that high and youre not using a large amount of Kahlua in the cocktail.

Does Bourbon Go Bad

The shelf life of bourbon isnât much different from the shelf life of whiskey, as a whole.

Unopened, a bottle of bourbon wonât go bad. You can store it for decades. But once a bottle of bourbon is opened, itâs got roughly 1 to 2 years before it goes bad. Again, that time frame depends on the amount of whiskey in the bottle.

Irish Coffee: A Classic Cocktail You Should Know

KAHLUA Liquor recipe ð¥ How to make KAHLUA Liqueur at home with Rum and Coffee âï¸?

Although the Irish Coffee was not the first coffee drink to contain alcohol, it has become one of the worlds most well-known concoctions. The Irish Coffee, which combines coffee with Irish whiskey, brown sugar, and softly whipped cream, is a hot, creamy classic that can help you wake up on cold mornings or keep you going after a long night of drinking. The origins of the Irish Coffee are the subject of several urban legends. Historically, the most credible version of the cocktails origins is attributed to Joe Sheridan, the head chef of the restaurant at the Foynes Flying Boat terminal in County Limerick during the early 1940s, who wanted to infuse a little local hospitality into the establishments coffee in order to differentiate it from the competition.

Youll want to drink at least two more of those cocktails, which include three and a half ounces of hot, sweetened coffee and three-quarters of an inch of softly whipped cream, since theyre so good. The recipe below from Liquor.com asks for a little bit more than that, but its still not enough to have you fall off your bar stool.

3. Lightly whisk the cream until it is fluffy. However, it should not rise to the top of the glass, but instead should be light and fluffy, producing that ideal separation between coffee and cream, which is, after all, the drinks characteristic.

What About Other Caffeine Sources

While combining alcohol and caffeine is never recommended, some combinations of the two may be less risky than others. Remember, the main issue is that caffeine can mask the effects of alcohol, leading you to drink more than you usually would.

But what about drinks that arent quite as caffeinated as energy drinks? The risk is still there, but its not quite as high.

For context, a rum and Coke made with one shot of rum contains between 30 and 40 mg of caffeine. Meanwhile, a Red Bull with one shot of vodka could contain between 80 to 160 mg of caffeine potentially more than three times the amount of caffeine.

While you should generally avoid combining alcohol and caffeine, having an occasional Irish coffee wont harm you. Just be sure to consume these types of drinks in moderation and to be aware of not only the alcohol content, but also the potential caffeine content.

Nothing more complicated than mixing hot water with instant coffee and a little sugar, then whisking until its light and frothy is required. Yes, this is true. Thats all there is to it! The coffee becomes extremely light and airy, and it is so sweet and smooth that you will want another cup before you have finished the first.

A Great Cocktail Begins With Great Coffee

While you can make coffee cocktails with the same brew that gets you going in the morning, upgrading your coffee will create the best cocktails. Alcohol won’t make up for bad coffee, and additives actually accentuate any impurities. Starting with a good cup of coffee will make the difference between a decent drink and a spectacular one.

  • Quality Beans: High-quality roasted coffee beans that are freshly ground for each cup or pot produce more flavorful coffee.
  • Skip the Drip: Drip coffee machines are convenient, but you can get richer, more flavorful coffee with other brewing methods. Consider coffee brewers like a drip cone, French press, AeroPress, or moka pot and use filtered or bottled water.

What Alcohol Products Go Well With A Particular Type Of Coffee

What alcohol products go well with a particular type of coffee?

I enjoy the odd Irish Coffee occasionally.

Desiring to expand my coffee/alcohol combos, I would like to know what types of coffee goes well with what type of alcohol?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

    • 1Most people do Bailey’s, but I could see Kahlua being a good option. Basically any cream/sugar based liqueur.Oct 20, 2016 at 16:13
    • 2Wow. This is a broad question. I believe there is a wide variety of acceptable answers . However, this is largely going to be based on your taste buds. My recommendation is experiment! I like adding Crown Royal to Dragon’s Milk but hate other whiskey’s in Dragon’s milk. Try balancing flavors – Sweet or “malty” beers offset the bitter of coffees. If you like “creamy” textures try adding Nitrogenated beers to your coffee. BryceHOct 24, 2016 at 18:52
    • I regularly put licor 42 in coffee, and my friends also think it tastes very well. It’s the best but afforable liqueur in my opinion.

Generally, you’ll want to avoid things with brighter, more acidic fruit flavors as those will mess with the inherent acidity of the coffee

Kahlua and Baileys are commonly used, as are more woodsy whiskeys. Avoid anything with carbonation, as the carbonic acid will again mess up the flavor of the coffee and you should also avoid scotches, rye, or other peaty-earthy whiskeys.

    Be responsible and Enjoy!

What Happens When You Mix Decaf Coffee And Alcohol

Dalgona Coffee with Irish Cream liquor

Lets get the basic question out of the way. What happens when you mix decaf coffee and alcohol? Honestly in the case of decaf very little. A common concern people have with mixing coffee or really the caffeine with alcohol is the chance of side effects. The obvious one that the CDC reports on in this link is masking the effects of alcohol with caffeines stimulating properties.

When alcohol is mixed with caffeine, the caffeine can mask the depressant effects of alcohol, making drinkers feel more alert than they would otherwise. As a result, they may drink more alcohol and become more impaired than they realize, increasing the risk of alcohol-attributable harms.

The CDC continues on with other dangers of mixing caffeine with alcohol to include greater risks of binge drinking , engaging in risky behavior like unprotected/unwanted sex, drunk driving, riding with a drunk driver, or alcohol related injuries.

Is this really a concern for us classy decaf drinkers? As you may have read in my 42 reasons to drink decaf article, decaf has about 97% less caffeine than regular coffee. This solves the first problem its unlikely to have the same stimulating effects as regular coffee mixed with alcohol. Though everyone is different and how sensitive you are to caffeine is very variable.

For me I can drink decaf at night and not have any sleep issues. The same is true for my very sensitive to caffeine wife! Check out my article on Will Decaf Keep me Awake to read more about this topic!

Tips For Making A Great Coffee Liqueur

While its tolerable to make any of these coffee liqueurs with a similar glass you blend to start up the day, consider upgrading your coffee to make the best liqueurs. Theres no compelling reason to be a coffee snob, yet a couple of upgrades can be the difference between a good enough drink and an amazing one.

    • Consider the beans. Get a specially simmered coffee bean at the nearby coffee shop or purchase it at the market. Entire beans that are naturally ground for each container or pot will deliver a more delightful coffee.
    • Skip the drip. Drip coffee machines are advantageous, yet you can get a better coffee with other methods and have a more tasty liqueur. Spare the drip coffee for your morning schedule, however consider purchasing a drip cone, French press, Aero press or moka pot to make the blends for your liqueurs. The difference is astonishing.
    • Alcohol wont compensate for awful coffee. Ensure you dont think that anything you add to your coffee will cover its less attractive perspectives. Commonly it will really emphasize the impurities. Liquor isnt a cure just for enhancing coffee, you require a decent glass in the first place.
