The church gave $906 million to humanitarian aid in 188 countries worldwide in 2021, plus members volunteered over 6 million hours of labor in the same cause, Dallin H. Oaks, first counselor in the governing First Presidency, said in the sessions opening speech.
During his nearly 40 years as an apostle, the 90-year-old Oaks, a former president of church-owned Brigham Young University who later served as a Utah Supreme Court justice, has seen extensive uncounted examples of such service throughout the world, beyond our own borders and beyond our common knowledge.
Most humanitarian service to the children of God worldwide is carried out by persons and organizations having no formal connection with our church, he said. The church is committed to serving those in need, and it is also committed to cooperating with others in that effort.
Oaks mentioned specifically partnering with the Red Cross and Red Crescent agencies as well as Catholic Relief Services, the U.N. and Muslim agencies, providing the children of God crucial relief during natural disasters and conflicts.
These organizations, he said, have taught us much about world-class relief.
It is all done, Oaks said, to follow the example of a righteous people described in the faiths unique scripture, the Book of Mormon.

Riding a bike means learning to balance and flying an airplane requires upward lift, apostle Dieter F. Uchtdorf said Sunday. Just as forward momentum keeps a bicycle balanced and upright, moving forward helps an aircraft overcome the pull of gravity and drag.
What does this mean for disciples of Jesus Christ? Uchtdorf asked. It means that if we want to find balance in life, and if we want the Savior to lift us heavenward, then our commitment to him and his gospel cant be casual or occasional.
He then described the difference between sacrifice and consecration. These two are similar, he said, but not identical.
To sacrifice means to give something up in favor of something more valuable, Uchtdorf said. When we consecrate something, we dont leave it to be consumed on the altar. Rather, we put it to use in the Lords service. We dedicate it to him and his holy purposes. We receive the talents that the Lord has given us and strive to increase them, manifold, to become even more helpful in building the Lords kingdom. Very few of us will ever be asked to sacrifice our lives for the Savior. But we are all invited to consecrate our lives to him.
As members look at their lives and see a hundred things to do, they may feel overwhelmed, he said. When we see one thing loving and serving God and his children, in a hundred different ways then we can focus on those things with joy.
First Satellite Transmission Of Conference: October 1979
Though radio satellites had been used prior to this time, 1979 was the first time satellite direct was used to transmit conference sessions. Just a few years later, President Spencer W. Kimball demonstrated satellite broadcast capability in a new way, speaking to the general conference congregation remotely from Fayette New York.

With the announcement made in October 2017, general priesthood session and general womens session began to be held annually in April and October respectively. The October 2018 general conference marked the first time a session for the women was held on the Saturday night of conference weekend instead of the week before.

First Time The General Priesthood Session Was Added: October 1945
Though an evening meeting had been held as part of general conference since as early as 1942, following the end of World War II, it was officially published as the General Priesthood Meeting in the October 1945 conference report.
Elder Joseph Fielding Smith was the first speaker at that session and said,
It is my purpose tonight to plead with our brethren who hold the responsibility of conducting the priesthood for a better supervision of priesthood quorums. In a revelation give to the Prophet for the benefit of the first elders of this Church he said: thou shalt not idle away they time, neither shalt thou bury thy talent that it may not be known . Too many of those who hold the priesthood have idled away their time and have buried their talent. We would like to have a revival among all the quorums of the priesthood.

Lds Conference Session Saturday Evening Focused On Drawing Closer To Christ
For a third time on Saturday, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day gathered around their TV sets, computers, smart phones and radios to listen to their church leaders during the 192nd Semi-annual General Conference.
The evening session has typically been for either the women and girls of the church or for the men and boys. This is the second time a general session has been held. The choir consisted of children and youth from the South Jordan area.
Starting the session was Bishop Gérald Caussé, presiding bishop of the church. He spoke on the responsibilities of caring for the earth and Gods creations including his children.
These wonderful creations were prepared entirely for our benefit and are living proof of the love the creator has for His children. The Lord declared, Yea, all things which come of the earth are made for the benefit and the use of man, both to please the eye and to gladden the heart,’ Caussé said. However, the divine gift of creation does not come without duties and responsibilities. These duties are best described by the concept of stewardship. In gospel terms, the word stewardship designates a sacred spiritual or temporal responsibility to take care of something that belongs to God, for which we are accountable.
As taught in the holy scriptures, earthly stewardship includes the following principles:

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 12, 2022 The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced changes to the 192nd Annual General Conference, including a limited number of tickets so people can attend in person.
Earlier in the COVID-19 pandemic, Conferences were completely closed to the public due to health precautions and ongoing construction at Temple Square.
In-person attendance at the general conference sessions will be limited due to the extensive construction taking place on and around Temple Square however, a limited number of tickets will be distributed to stakes and districts in the United States and Canada, says a statement released on LDSNewsroom.com.
Decisions about gathering to watch general conference in meetinghouses will be left to the discretion of local leaders.
As usual, Conference will be available for remote viewing.
The conference will be broadcast on the Church satellite system, ChurchofJesusChrist.org, and other media, the statement says.
The news statement also invited all women and young women to participate in a Womens Session of General Conference, which will be held the evening of Saturday, April 2.
General sessions for all will be held on Saturday and Sunday, April 2 and 3, it says.
Messages delivered during conference will be published on the Gospel Library app, on ChurchofJesusChrist.org, and in Church magazines for further viewing and study.

First Time The Tabernacle Choir Sang At General Conference: October 1865
Just after the Saints arrived in the Salt Lake Valley in August 1847, a group of them sang at a conference of the Church . This small choir grew, and in 1849, President Brigham Young asked John Parry, who had led an 85-member choir of Welsh converts during that years general conference, to formally organize a choir to provide the music for all future general conferences. A choir was formed that performed at every general conference after that, but it was not until 1865, just a few years after the announcement that a new tabernacle would be built to house conference-goers, that this choir was first referred to in the conference minutes as the Tabernacle Choir.

Even with the increasing worldly influences around us, we need not fear, he said. The Lord will never desert his covenant people. There is a compensatory power of spiritual gifts and divine direction for the righteous.
