Starbucks has drawn criticism for using Italian words for their drink sizes. A tall is 12 ounces; a grande is 16 ounces; a venti hot, 20 ounces; a venti cold, 24 ounces; and a trenta , 31 ounces. Owing to confusion or indifference, many customers still use the more common small, medium, large terms. If you’re wondering whether that irritates partners, the answer is no. I would say 30 percent of people use our terms and know what they mean, AJ says. Others use the more common sizes, or whatever size they happen to see on the menu. The problem, AJ adds, is when customers order a size in Italian and then complain they didnt know what it meant, necessitating a time-consuming change in the order.

Although parts of the job can be tough, what many employees like the most is the teamwork that comes with their position. In order for the store to function properly, working together is essential. You have to admit, they do always look like they’re having fun behind the counter!

Another former employee told New York Magazine about the “green apron board” at Starbucks, which is essentially a thank you card system. They basically write each other little notes that are full of compliments as motivation. They said, “So you always find little notes in your spot like, ‘You kicked ass today!’ Or ‘I’m so happy I get to work with you.'”;

Never Adjust The Temperature

If you ever walk into a Starbucks store and find the temperature too warm or cold, dont bother asking a barista to adjust it. If you must know, there is nothing that they can do about it. According to a report from Worldation, Starbucks management has established temperature limits for their shops.

It Starts With Messaging

If you’ve ever ordered coffee at Starbucks, you might have noticed little boxes on the cup filled with symbols. These symbols are a sort of shorthand used by the baristas to quickly identify the drink as well as any extras .

The cup, or message, is essential for communication between employees. It signals to the barista that a beverage needs to be created and the symbols written on it provide details on what kind of beverage to prepare. Even if the coffee shop isn’t busy and there’s only one person servicing customers up front, they will still add symbols to the cup.

At first glance, this might seem like extra work. But if a large group of customers suddenly enters the shop, the other employees from the back can immediately jump in to help. Without the need for any additional communication overhead, they can start making drinks based on the messages.

The amount of caffeine in any coffee-based drink is known to fluctuate, but 75mg per shot is the best estimate. If you are worried about your caffeine consumption for health reasons, I would urge you to overestimate and assume there is anywhere from 80mg to 100mg of caffeine per shot of espresso. For comparison, an average eight-ounce drip cup of coffee contains around 104 to 192mg of caffeine, according to the American Beverage Association.
