How Do You Make Starbucks Iced Coffee

Key Steps To Better Cold Brew At Home

HOW TO MAKE A STARBUCKS ICED COFFEE
  • Get the grind right. Cold brew requires a specific grind. A larger grind something closer to the coarseness of raw sugar keeps the brew from getting bitter overnight. If youve got a small home grinder, its best to grind the beans in batches.
  • Use a higher ratio of coffee to water. This recipe uses a ratio of 8 ounces of ground coffee to 8 cups of water which is 1 ounce of coffee per cup making it easier to scale this recipe up or down. Drip coffee uses about 1/2 ounce of coffee per cup.
  • Strain slowly. The Toddy System that Starbucks uses to brew and strain their coffee relies on gravity to gently remove the cold brew from the grounds. To replicate that at home, youll need to strain the cold brew gently through cheesecloth and a strainer. Avoid pressing or squeezing the coffee grounds, as that extracts bitter flavors. Work in batches to strain as gently as possible. You might be asking yourself, Cant I just strain the coffee with a coffee filter? You could, but it slows the straining process and occasionally the paper filters tear, creating more of a mess than anyone should have to deal with before coffee. My favorite tool for straining my cold brew is actually a nut milk bag.

The ingredients are: coffee, milk, vanilla syrup, caramel sauce, and ice cubs.

  • Coffee: I recommend bold coffee such as espresso shots and strongly brewed coffee. Decaf works as well. But if there is no real coffee bean or ground coffee available, you can use strong instant coffee, too.
  • Milk: It is up to your preference. Personally I like full fat milk always but all range of milk and milk alternative which Starbucks has at their outlets are ok. Starbucks offers 6 different milk options that you can use to make espresso beverage. There are three dairy options such as non-fat milk, 2% milk and whole milk. And Starbucks three non-dairy options are soy milk, almond milk and coconut milk.
  • Vanilla flavored syrup: I use homemade Starbucks vanilla syrup but store-bought syrup works, too.
  • Caramel sauce: Caramel sauce is a must for this recipe. However if you dont have read-made caramel sauce or thick syrup at home, try my homemade Starbucks caramel sauce recipe.
  • Ice cubes: 1 inch by 1 inch ice cubes are convenient for easy measurement for this recipe.

Heres How Starbucks Makes A Grande Iced Chai Latte

HOW TO MAKE STARBUCKS ICED COFFEE AT HOME

There are only three ingredients in a Starbucks iced chai latte:

  • Highly concentrated chai concentrate
  • Ice
  • Directions for a grande iced chai latte

    • Add 4 pumps of chai concentrate directly into the cup
    • Add milk up to the third black line cup marking
    • Fill the cup with ice and give it a swirl to mix

Now, take a careful look at the photo below.

Notice that the four pumps of concentrate comes up to the first clear line on the cup.

I did a little experiment to see how much liquid it takes to get to that line and its cup.

Next, Starbucks baristas add milk up to the third black line on the cold cup. To get from the clear line to the third black line takes an additional 1 cup of liquid.

Finally, fill the remaining space with ice. A quick swirl of the cup mixes the ingredients together nicely.

    Iced Coffee Vs Cold Brew

First, lets be clear: Iced coffee is not the same as cold brew. They are both popular kinds of cold coffee, but there are important differences.

Making cold brew is a time-intensive process. Cold brew is more about the method of preparing the coffee than the serving temperature of the coffee itself. For cold brew, you grind beans and steep them at room temperature for an extended period, typically between 12 and 16 hours. This produces a cool pot of coffee with an even, smooth taste.

Iced coffee is what were talking about. You take a hot cuppa and you turn it cold. You can brew the coffee as you normally would, using your favorite brewing method, and then you introduce it to ice via methods described below, to slightly dilute the flavor without eliminating it.

    Ingredient : The Syrup

    Prepare to have your mind blown. Starbucks sells their syrup bottles! Any flavor! Can you believe it? Just be mindful that they need to have extra in stock, so you may want to let them know ahead of time.;

I know what you’re thinking: “But what about one of those cool little pumps?” They will give that to you as well as long as you smile and ask nicely. Baristas see a lot of mean people in their day, especially in the drive-thru. So be nice or they will mysteriously be out of the pumps.

Vanilla is the most popular syrup flavor at Starbucks so they usually have plenty of extras. This is my favorite flavor so I use it in my iced coffee. However, if you want sweetened iced coffee like how Starbucks makes it, you’ll need to buy a bottle of Classic syrup. It’s nothing more than a simple syrup. Each syrup bottle costs about $12.95-14.95, depending on what part of the country you’re in.

Of course you can buy other versions of vanilla syrup too, like Torani. But I am not going to lie, they are not my favorite. It tastes a little “fake” to me. Maybe this is the prissy Barista in me talking buuuuuuut, that’s just my opinion.

Add 2 pumps into your coffee and that will be plenty sweet. This bottle will give you 33 servings. I wish I could say that it lasts me a month, but… ::wink, wink:::

Tips And Things To Consider When Making Iced Coffee

    How is Iced Coffee Made?

Sometimes, the heat or cold brings out the unadulterated flavors of a coffee roast. What is the best coffee at Starbucks that will best fit the iced variant? Coffees with fruity or chocolaty flavors taste best iced.

Do you want to drink coffee with a fruity flavor without having to add orange slices in the cup? Ethiopian coffee beans are famous for their fruity flavors. With a little research, you can find the right flavor of coffee that youre yearning for.

While iced coffee is the perfect way to beat the heat, try to limit your coffee consumption to five cups per day. Studies say that if you go past that, you put your health at risk.; You increase the risk of developing heart disease by 22% when you go overboard with your coffee.

    Does Microwaving Ruin Iced Coffee

The real answer to this query is probably Yes.

It may or may not happen depending upon how the iced coffee was prepared earlier.

Microwaving usually does not spoil the cold coffee which has become cold after hot brewing.

Check out our other article where we explain why microwaving coffee with creamer is a safe process.

The only issue with microwaving your cold or iced coffee is it somewhat alters the original taste and flavor a little bit.

However, if you are okay with somewhat altered taste, then you can definitely use a microwave oven.

Sometimes, your coffee may taste bitter after you heat it up in the microwave.

This is usually attributed to the actual process of iced coffee making.

If it is brewed with hot water, the oil from the coffee beans do not get affected much.

But if you are reheating the iced coffee in the microwave oven, at that time the oils are quickly degraded after you heat up your coffee.

This is when your coffee becomes sour or bitter in taste.

If the iced coffee is made with cold brewed process, then you will not see much quality degradation after heating up the coffee in the microwave.

The life span or shelf life of cold brewed coffee is also much higher in comparison to hot brewed coffee due to less oil degradation.

Check out this article to know more about the actual shelf life of hot brewed and cold brewed coffee.

Take a look at this article where I have mentioned the whole process of using toaster oven to heat or reheat any type of coffee.
