Caf Bustelo Instant Coffee: Espresso

Nescafe Taster’s Choice Instant Coffee Review

Of all the coffees on this list, Café Bustelo’s version is most similar to its regular ground coffee used for brewing. The popular coffee brand’s signature blend is made in espresso-style, a Cuban method that allows for a bolder, richer flavor. And that’s true in the instant packet, too.

The dark powder mixes with hot water to create an incredibly smooth cup of coffee. It’s a strong taste, without being too bitter or too bold. There’s a very slightly more artificial taste than in the regular version, but if you add a dash of sugar or creamer, you likely won’t notice.

How Much Caffeine Is In Regular Coffee

To understand how much caffeine is in instant coffee, its essential first to know how much caffeine you typically take in daily from traditionally brewed coffee. To do this, well explore the most popular coffee chains along with the most recognizable household beans and learn how much caffeine they contain.

The Main Reason Instant Coffee Typically Has Less Caffeine Per Serving

NESCAFE Taster

The real reason instant coffee brands contain less caffeine than a typically brewed cup of coffee comes down to money and marketing.

Labor-intensive manufacturing process

The processes listed above are expensive and labor-intensive. Because regular coffee beans require very little preparation before shipping out to stores or coffee shops, they can be sold for less. It would be best if you also kept in mind that you are merely buying more coffee when you buy instant coffee.

Instant coffee is a coffee concentrate that has been reduced from regular coffee. With no water or excess material, you are buying an extremely refined product.

More servings per package

If a coffee company wanted to increase the caffeine in each serving, they would have to increase the serving size. Doing so would decrease the number of servings in each container, which would be less attractive to potential buyers. Death Wish is a prime example.

While strong, death Wish Instant Coffee costs quite a bit more than the other options on this list. Eight servings of their instant coffee will run you $15, while you can get 150 servings of Nescafe for $8. The total caffeine content of the Death Wish contains 2,400mg of caffeine, whereas the Nescafe option contains 9,500mg for half the price.

Instant Coffees Ranked Worst To Best

For many of us, instant coffee translates to instant fuel. Even though the idea of a glorious pour-over sounds incredibly desirable, we might not have enough energy to endure every step of the process. This is exactly why mega commercial brands like Folgers and Maxwell House became famed pioneers in the “first wave” of instant coffee. They seized the opportunity to caffeinate as many humans as possible, all while keeping costs extremely low. But when it comes to the two most judged criteria , instant coffee rarely outshines the whole bean.

For instance, a conventional cup of coffee usually contains between 70 and 140 mg of caffeine, whereas instant coffee falls between 30 to 90 mg. Boo-hoo. Also, most of the first wave “cheap” instant fuel tasted like straight up, chemically-interpolated potting soil lacking the richness of the real stuff.

However, in more recent years, startups have made more daring moves by repositioning coffee as something to consume quickly without compromising taste. Plus, they’re jumping miles ahead by infusing blends with health benefits, making “progressive” instant coffee all the more enticing. Today, we’re spilling the caffeinated “tea” on instant coffee and giving you a compilation of options, ranked worst to absolute best.

Is Instant Coffee Good Or Bad For You

Drinking instant coffee in the morning instead of a cup of brewed coffee is not an unhealthy practice.

You can always drink more than one cup to get the caffeine you need, but try to avoid drinking too much at once.

Instant coffee has less caffeine than brewed coffee and soda. It can be better for your digestion when you drink it instead of other beverages.

Health benefits of drinking instant coffee can include increased energy levels and lowered stress levels due to how it affects your brain chemistry.

Coffee has natural antioxidants and other properties that can help your body fight diseases.

If youre thinking about switching to instant coffee from brewed coffee, you will still get the same health benefits and be able to stay energized throughout your day with less caffeine than you would get in a cup of regular coffee.

How Does Instant Coffee Work

The short answer is that instant coffee is a powdered coffee extract that you combine water with to make a cup.

Instant coffee goes through processes during production that remove the water, so you only need to add hot water for it to taste good.

These processes also reduce the flavor and caffeine content of regular coffee. So, many people drink instant coffee in the morning when they want to stay awake but dont necessarily want the whole flavor experience.

Mount Hagen Organic Fairtrade Coffee Instant

Nescafe’ Taster’s Choice Instant Coffee Review

Coming in as one of the most accessible organic instant coffees, Mount Hagen coffee is considered a bit more commercialized than other microbrands. But they’ve maintained a level of sustainability, ensuring every glass jar is 100% recyclable. Like a few other options on the market, Mount Hagen produces a silky smooth product that is gently processed and reflects the origin flavors of Papua New Guinea.

According to Molly Young at The Strategist, this coffee makes her morning ten times more delightful. “These arid little crystals have brought me so much joy! I feel like an astronaut when I prepare my daily cup, stirring a scant spoonful into a mug of hot water!” she mentioned. “I would describe the taste as ‘very brown,’ in a good way. If you polled 100 people on their ideal cup of coffee, this would be the resulting average. It is a friendly and pleasing brew not bitter or acidic.”

Different Coffee Beans Have Different Caffeine Contents

This one is true. Interestingly, caffeine is produced by the coffee plant primarily to ward off insects and to lessen the competition from the local flora. Caffeine is toxic to insects, and coffee plants that are located closer to sea level have slightly higher levels of caffeine than those located at higher elevations. Bugs prefer to stay close to sea level, so the plants level of natural insecticide is reduced as altitude increases.

While the elevation of a coffee plant does determine its caffeine content, the difference isnt as large as youd expect. A low caffeine content coffee bean contains around 1.5% caffeine, whereas the coffee beans highest caffeine content contains about 2.5% caffeine.
