In addition, all of its packaging is made from 100 percent recycled materials, and the device itself is energy efficient, according to the manufacturer. And despite being made from such materials, this espresso machine is nothing short of stylish. It boasts a minimalist design with an all-black matte finish. I found it very sleek, and it fits in well with my minimal home interior design. This espresso machine is also available in several colors so you can find one in your favorite hue or in your kitchen’s color scheme.
The Nespresso Vertuo Next offers users the option to get the Aeroccino milk frother alongside it. The Aeroccino is similar in its minimal design and consists of an electric base and the main body that functions to froth the milk. In terms of size, the Nespresso Vertuo Next is fairly slim, measuring just 5.5 inches wide. The only downside with the sizing is that the Aeroccino is separate from the Nespresso Vertuo Next, so I had to use more counter space to accommodate this piece.

How Did The Nespresso Vertuo Next Perform
Using the Vertuo Next was so easy, Jaclyn had time to snap a picture whilst her coffee was being made.
It’s true, I think a Nespresso maker makes some of the best single-serve coffee. It’s quick, easy, and makes a delicious hot beverage. Everything you could want when its the barrier between you and your first dose of caffeine.
The downfall, as mentioned from a number of reviews I’ve combed through, is that they are not the most reliable machines. After a period of non-use, my machine would not brew and flashed a series of blinking lights at me. When I could not troubleshoot on my own, I called customer servicein which I will note I was connected to within moments who diagnosed that something went wrong with the hot water heater. Being within the warranty period, my unit was swiftly replaced.

The Vertuo line seems to pride itself on being more tech savvy the barcode system and all. It also lets you connect your machine to the Nespresso App. Why though seems to be a bit of a mystery. Dont seem to be any additional features available for the machine. At most it seems to be a slightly more convenient place to order capsules from. In my opinion it would be pretty cool if you could somehow interact with your machine to adjust drink sizes inside the app and have them spit out of the machine. But thats not what this technology appears to be about, so Ill put that on my wish list for the future and leave it at this: well this machine may appear to have some smarts, it doesnt.

Ive tested my fair share of appliances and home goods as the Ecommerce Writer across Real Homes, Ideal Homes, Living Etc and Homes and Gardens, but trying out a Nespresso coffee maker was high on my wishlist. And it did not disappoint. Im an avid coffee drinker, often relying on it to get through my day and hours of writing . Just as much, I drink coffee for enjoyment, and can appreciate a good cup.
I recently moved into a new apartment in East London and was surviving on instant or press coffees before the Nespresso came along. Lucky for me it went well with the modern interiors of my kitchen and the other black appliances I have around the house. I tested this machine for a good couple of months, and at the time of writing have enjoyed an estimated 100 cups of coffee, including the espresso, double espressos and mug size variants. Ive cleaned it more than a few times and descaled it once to see how it performs too.
Design And Build Quality
The Nespresso Vertuo Next is amongst the newest coffee makers within the Nespresso VertuoLine. Its likely a replacement of the discontinued Nespresso Evoluo.
Despite being one of their newer VertuoLine models, Nespresso seems to have designed a slimmer machine with fewer features, but one that is supremely easy to use .
The Nespresso Vertuo Next comes in three variations. These are the Vertuo Next, the Vertuo Next Premium, and the Vertuo Next Deluxe.
In terms of functionality, these machines are identical. But in terms of design and build quality, there are some slight variations.
The Vertuo Next Premium has a metal cup holder and a few touches of chrome. The Vertuo Next Deluxe adds more premium materials to those in the Premium models, such as a stainless steel coffee outlet.
The color of your Vertuo Next Nespresso machine will also depend on which model you get.
At the time of writing, the Vertuo Next comes in Cherry Red, White, Dark Grey, Matte Black, or Light Grey. The Nespresso Vertuo Next Premium is available in Classic Black or Black Rose Gold. Finally, the Vertuo Next Deluxe can be bought in Pure Chrome or Dark Chrome colors.
Regardless of which variation you get, the Vertuo Next is a slim, modern, and aesthetically pleasing machine that should easily fit in most kitchens.
The water tank sits behind the machine and can easily be removed for re-filling. Given its behind, it does not detract from the modern looks of this Nespresso machine.

Why Is My Nespresso Vertuo Machine Not Working
There are a few reasons why your Nespresso Vertuo machine may not be working. It could be that the power cord is not plugged in correctly, the machine is not turned on, or there could be an issue with the water tank. If the water tank is empty, you will need to refill it before the machine will work. If none of these solutions solve the problem, you may need to reset your Nespresso Vertuo machine.
Coffee Temperature: Nespresso Vertuo
Coffee should be hot, right? Not so fast. We tend to brew our coffee with boiling water since the temperature can help extract flavours and oils a little easier, but very hot water can make coffee bitter. Youre probably familiar with colf bre coffee, which essentially replaces heat with time: letting ground coffee sit in cold water for up to 24 hours to extract the same flavorswithout the bitterness and acrid taste. For that reason, the Vertuo line uses a slightly lower temperature when making coffee and here all those rotations help saturate the grounds faster, so not as much heat is needed.
Now for some people this is a problem coffee that comes out of the machine at any temperature other than volcanic may not be as enjoyable. I guess your temperature and taste preferences are probably very individual. So whether a slightly cooler but more flavourful and less bitter brew will be enjoyable for you is definitely a matter of taste.
For me, I found there were still some Vertuo coffee roasts that did taste bitter, and at the same time I didnt really notice a huge difference in temperature.

Nespresso Vertuo Next Overview
Nespresso has two lines of capsule-based espresso machines:
- OriginalLine: Their original line that used a 19 bar pump to extract shots from capsules
- VertuoLine: Their new line that uses Centrifusion to extract shots from barcode-enabled capsules but also brews standard coffee up to 17 oz
For our money, OriginalLine machines are better than VertuoLine machines.
Why do we say that? We have 5 reasons.
1. Pump vs Centrifusion
VertuoLine machines do away with a standard pump and use rapid capsule spinning to generate pressure. In side-by-side comparisons, we think VertuoLine coffee is a little under-extracted when compared to OriginalLine coffee.
2. Coffee Temperature
Possibly a result of Centrifusion, we also find OriginalLine coffee to be a little hotter than VertuoLine coffee.
3. Crema Consistency
The crema is that hazel-colored layer on top of your espresso. VertuoLine machines have an airier, “whipped” crema due to Centrifusion. This makes it more pronounced and aromatic, but it doesn’t have the taste or mouthfeel of authentic crema. OriginalLine machines get closer.
4. Capsule Cost
Nespresso’s OriginalLine capsules are less expensive than VertuoLine capsules. It varies by capsule, but generally OriginalLine capsules are around 30% less expensive.
5. Capsule Scanning
But that doesn’t mean VertuoLine machines are worthless.
If you’re looking for a dual-use brewer for both standard coffee and espresso, a VertuoLine model might be just what you’re looking for.
Coffee Brewing And Taste
Nespresso Vertuo machines use centrifusion technology, which spins the capsules 7,000 times per minute to blend the coffee and hot water for a delicious end result.
When it comes to coffee brewing, both coffee machines can make a single cup of coffee in about 25 seconds from inserting the pod until the coffee maker starts brewing. Overall, you wont wait for more than a minute for your coffee to be ready. The Vertuo Next has a louder pump than the Plus. Running the Next was closer to flying on an airplane.

However, there are also 18 oz pour-over carafe pods, which are exclusively compatible with Nespresso Vertuo Next.

In terms of coffee taste, both Vertuo machines make perfectly blended coffee. But, my vote goes to Nespresso Vertuo Plus because it can make better crema. Its creamier and more consistent. Also, this machine makes hotter coffee compared to the Next.
Hypothetically, the taste should be near-identical because both machines use the same VertuoLine technology. However, I found Vertuo Next coffee has a more bitter flavor, while Vertuo Plus coffee tastes a little sweeter, especially if you make a milk drink. I noticed Nespresso Vertuo Next takes about 10 seconds longer to brew coffee compared to Nespresso Vertuo Plus, which could mean that Vertuo Next extracts more flavors. This results in a bitter drink with a bubblier, more aerated crema.
