At-home coffee makers and espresso machines are more advanced than ever. If you’re not one for the hands-on, manual experience, the Miele CM5300 Countertop Coffee System, a fully automatic espresso and coffee machine combo, is a good option. For several weeks, I tested this espresso/cappuccino machine and evaluated its design, espresso and coffee quality, setup, cleanup, and price. Read on to see what I found.
Features And Ease Of Use
The Miele CM6350 is a super automatic espresso machine, which means that it does everything for you. You just need to add espresso coffee beans, water, and connect the milk carafe if you want a milky drink. Then you press one of the OneTouch sensors and the machine will do the rest, including cleaning itself.
Miele places a high emphasis on cleaning as we’ll see in the section below.
But for now, this means every time you turn on and turn off the machine, it will go through a rinsing cycle. If you use milk, it will also rinse the milk pipes and inner components.
This machine comes with 8 pre-programmed drinks. These include ristretto, espresso, coffee, café Americano, cappuccino, latte macchiato, latte and coffee jug. In addition, Miele considers hot water, hot milk and milk froth as separate beverages.
Note that if you are looking forward to preparing lots of coffee for the family using the coffee pot function, it requires a carafe. A carafe is unfortunately not included with this machine.
Also, youre not really limited to the above drinks. For example, I made myself a cortado by pulling an espresso shot and then selecting the milk froth drink, and stopping it short.
The user interface is controlled by tapping sensors located in the front, below, left and right of the screen. The sensors are very responsive and they “beep” when you press them, providing the user with feedback.
Overall, using this machine is very intuitive to use.

Setup Process: Potential Learning Curve
Pulling this machine out of the box for the first time was quite intimidating. There are many parts and a thick instruction manual that makes this machine seem a lot more challenging than it actually is. Before the first use, I needed to spend a fair bit of time going through the instruction manual. This took about 15 to 20 minutes to get familiar with all of the compartments on the machine and its pieces. After I figured out how this machine worked, I made a drink in under three minutes.
To set it up for the first time, there are detailed instructions for priming the device included in the manual. This process probably took about 10 to 15 minutes. After I primed the coffee maker, it was ready for regular usage. I plugged the machine in and turned the machine on. I added water to the removable water tank and whole coffee beans to the hopper. The LED will light up and offer a prompt to select a drink. What happens next depends on the selected drink.
For drinks with milk, the included milk pipe must connect to the main dispenser on one end and to a carton of cold milk on the other end. The user then selects the desired drink, such as a cappuccino or macchiato latte, and the machine proceeds to froth the milk and pull the espresso into the same cup. For drinks without milk, the user just presses the button for coffee, espresso, or ristretto, and there is no need to use the milk pipe.

I wasnt joking earlier in this Miele CM 6350 review when I crowed about how easy it is to use this coffee machine. I believe that any coffee lover could start making quality espresso and specialty drinks without having to pore over the user manual.
Youll need to add water to the reservoir and coffee beans to the hopper, then away you go! Actually, I got a little ahead of myself there. Sorry about that. First, youll want to rinse both the water tank and milk flask. Then go ahead and make a couple of throwaway drinks to prime the machine. I know its a pain, but youll be glad you got all that out of the way!

Ease Of Cleaning And Maintenance
Miele coffee machines usually have strong ease of cleaning and maintenance features. This machine is no exception and is one its greatest strengths.
Miele has put huge emphasis on keeping your machine clean, and we’re extremely glad to see this. Super automatic espresso machines create the perfect environment for bacteria to thrive in .
The drip tray and waste grounds system can be easily removed by pulling from the front of the machine. This system consists of various pieces, including the lower panel, the drip tray and lid, the drip tray cover, the waste coffee grounds basket. They can be rinsed by hand with dish soap or tossed in the dishwasher, except for the lower panel.
The water container should also be rinsed on a daily basis but in practice it makes sense to rinse it every time it needs refilling.
Obviously, the milk flask should also be cleaned if you use it – nobody wants stale milk anywhere. It’s not dishwasher safe though so you will need to wash it by hand.
Even if you’re lazy the CM6350 will make sure some cleaning takes place. Every time you turn on and turn off the machine, it will rinse itself. If you used the automatic milk frothing system, the machine will rinse the milk pipework when you turn it off. These programs are not optional and you will need to wait 30-45 seconds for them to finish.
You can even take apart the main dispenser and cappuccitanore system for deep cleaning.
