This machine is really easy to operate since it really just has one button.

Open the machine lid by unlocking the lever. Choose your pod, and remember, the pod dictates the coffee, so use the adjustable tray and the right size cup.Pop it in dome side down and close the lid, then lock the lever in place. The small light will flash and when it stops, the machine is ready to go.

Pushing the button initiates the brewing sequence. Youll hear a bunch of noise and spinning, but the machine isnt loud in my opinion. The full brew sequence lasts about a minute for an espresso to nearly 2 minutes for a fuller size coffee.

After its brewed, the pod will stay in place until you open the top, then its automatically lifted out and flipped to the discard bin.

The Nespresso Vertuo Next by DeLonghi is a slim machine taking up a relatively small footprint. This espresso machine uses Nespressos Vertuo capsuels which are a bit different than the standard Nespresso capsules. These are bigger, and wider and come in different heights, according to what type of coffee theyre making.

This machine has a 1 litre water tank and a discard bin that holds up to 10 used pods.

Ease Of Use And Programming

Nespresso Vertuo machines are extremely easy to use. These are single-button coffee machines, so all you have to do is insert the Nespresso Vertuo capsules, wait about 30 seconds for the machine to heat up, put the cup on the tray, and wait for it to fill up with coffee.

Both machines use Nespresso Vertuo capsules. These capsules have a bar code that each machine reads to deliver a specific flow, water volume, temperature, and infusion time. This ensures a consistent coffee drink every time.

Vertuo Next Wifi

Vertuo Next is Nespressos first coffee machine that has Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The extra connectivity allows the coffee maker to get firmware updates directly from your home network, including software-based features and fixes.

You have to download the Nespresso and create a login. Then, I connected my Next to the app. The process was really simple: click on top of the app , then choose the pair machine on the next screen, and place your phone on the Next until it connects. The process took a minute or two.

The problem is you really cant do anything with the Wifi connection on the Next. This is not a smart machine, so you cant push a button on it to make coffee , and there isnt much firmware to upgrade as the sizes are pretty set . The only thing I could do is set the water hardness size, which ostensibly modifies the brewing a bit.

Should You Get A Breville Or Delonghi Nespresso Machine

Putting the unique lines to one side and getting back to the actual Nespresso coffee machines that Delonghi and Breville manufacture. The range includes Nespresso Pixie, the Inissia and Essenza Mini, Citiz, Vertuo, VertuoPlus and Nespresso VertuoPlus Deluxe.

These are all produced by both Delonghi and Breville. As I have already mentioned, the insides of the machines are all the same the only differences between them are slight cosmetic design changes.

A Nespresso machine manufactured by Breville, for example, might have a more squarish design. On the other hand, the Delonghi equivalent might have a more rounded top and a more extensive range of colors to choose from.

At the end of the day, both will produce the same tasting coffee, they take the same Nespresso capsule and function the same. You need to decide on which color and design you prefer.

Coffee should be hot, right? Not so fast. We tend to brew our coffee with boiling water since the temperature can help extract flavours and oils a little easier, but very hot water can make coffee bitter. Youre probably familiar with colf bre coffee, which essentially replaces heat with time: letting ground coffee sit in cold water for up to 24 hours to extract the same flavorswithout the bitterness and acrid taste. For that reason, the Vertuo line uses a slightly lower temperature when making coffee and here all those rotations help saturate the grounds faster, so not as much heat is needed.

Now for some people this is a problem coffee that comes out of the machine at any temperature other than volcanic may not be as enjoyable. I guess your temperature and taste preferences are probably very individual. So whether a slightly cooler but more flavourful and less bitter brew will be enjoyable for you is definitely a matter of taste.

For me, I found there were still some Vertuo coffee roasts that did taste bitter, and at the same time I didnt really notice a huge difference in temperature.

It comes with a 40 oz water tank, but it doesnt swivel like the Vertuo Plus. Finally, the lid on the Vertuo is more difficult to open and close, as it has a lock that needs to be turned, like Nespresso Vertuo Next.

Nespresso Evoluo is bulkier compared to other Nespresso Vertuo models, but it houses a 54 oz water tank. It also has the largest container for used pods it fits 17 used Nespresso capsules. This is the best choice if you brew several drinks a day and want to spend little time cleaning and refilling the machine.

Like DeLonghi, Breville also has a proprietary line of machines called the Creatista range, including the Creatista Uno and the Creatista Plus.

Web & App Connection Kinda

The Vertuo line seems to pride itself on being more tech savvy the barcode system and all. It also lets you connect your machine to the Nespresso App. Why though seems to be a bit of a mystery. Dont seem to be any additional features available for the machine. At most it seems to be a slightly more convenient place to order capsules from. In my opinion it would be pretty cool if you could somehow interact with your machine to adjust drink sizes inside the app and have them spit out of the machine. But thats not what this technology appears to be about, so Ill put that on my wish list for the future and leave it at this: well this machine may appear to have some smarts, it doesnt.
