Usually, the ceramic flat burr grinder enjoys a premium reputation because its often quieter than its conical burr stainless-steel rivals, though I really cant vouch for this in the case of the Philips 3200 LatteGo.

Thats because this grinder makes quite a racket and is even louder than many of its conical burr counterparts. And the same is also true for the LatteGo milk system, which makes more noise than youd expect. Why? Beats me.

Noise levels which are pretty tolerable during brewing aside, the extraction process is a bit too fast for my taste.

Its also a sign of insufficiently compacted puck or other shortcomings in the way that the coffee grounds are automatically processed. Having said that, the brew flows evenly from the spout without sputtering.

On a side note, Latte glasses up to 5.9 inches in height fit below the spout, and even very small espresso cups are a reasonable distance from the coffee outlet.

The most appealing part of the Philips 3200 Series LatteGo is that you don’t need to be an espresso expert to enjoy a quality cup of coffee, or a cappuccino at home. Now, finding your perfect combination does involve working with the settings, and I wish it brewed hotter without having to tamper with the temperature controls.

Brewing a coffee was most underwhelming option, as it dispenses a much smaller portion than if you used a pod-machine or brewed a whole carafe. However, for quick shots of espresso with the perfect layer of crema and the real highlights, cappuccinos and lattes, it’s a solid and reliable espresso machine.

While the Philips 3200 isnt as flashy as, say, a SMEG or Breville espresso machine, its glossy black finish with chrome-like trim is attractive, and wont detract from your kitchens aesthetic.

The face of the machine features six buttons for selecting your beverage alongside buttons that let you customize the size and strength of the coffee, as well as the amount of steamed milk.

Below these controls is a spout that dispenses the coffee cleverly, it can be raised and lowered to accommodate different size cups and the LatteGo, a small removable container that creates steamed milk and dispenses it into your cup. Atop the machine is a well for coffee beans, covered by a transparent gray removable lid. The machine also accepts coffee grounds, which can be added via a small door, also on the top.

Your cup sits on a metal grille and removable base which must be removed and emptied when it reaches max capacity the tray slides out easily, and a small spout lets you drain any liquid without worrying about spilling. The used coffee grounds are stored in their own removable container, and can be disposed of as easily .

The Philips 3200 measures 17 x 14.6 x 9.7 inches and weighs 15.4 pounds I liked that it was fairly narrow, which means it wont take up as much counter space as wider coffee machines.

While the LatteGo should be cleaned following every use, the Coffee Grounds Container and drip tray should be emptied weekly, but I’d recommend daily. These parts are easy to clean, remove and dishwasher safe.

The Brew Group, accessible by removing the water tank, needs weekly cleaning with a rinse under the tap, but it should also be lubricated with the included Grease tube every two months to ensure that all the many moving parts continue to move smoothly.

The AquaClean filter needs to be replaced every 3 months or after 95 liters have flown through. Luckily, you’ll only have to descale after 5,000 cups, which I haven’t gotten anywhere close to in the time I’ve owned this machine.

Yes, the noise levels are annoying, but ultimately its pretty average compared to all the other models in my super automatic espresso machine reviews. Overall, the Philips 3200 Series Fully Automatic Espresso Machine w/ LatteGo turns out solid, if unspectacular coffee. Its thoughtfully designed, with a narrow shape that makes it great for those with less counter space. Plus, the parts are easy to remove and clean. The LatteGo attachment also makes it much easier to whip up a cappuccino than with a separate frother, especially for those who arent as familiar with the process. However, the quality of the coffee could be better, especially when youre spending more than $750 on an espresso machine.

Among the best espresso machines, the Breville Bambino Plus was better at making both coffee and steamed milk, but it lacks a built-in grinder and the one-touch simplicity of the Philips machine which for many, may be enough.
