A guiltless mocha coffee frappe?? YES!!! Low fat, dairy free and sugar free too!

This fabulous recipe first published on June 5th of 2012 needed some new updated photos!

It’s only 24 calories!;;Only 2 grams of fat and;TASTES TERRIFIC! It’s quick and easy to make in a blender and a whole lot less expensive than buying a frappe at any coffee chop!

No, it is not false advertising. No, it is not too good to be true either. YOU can have this without guilt!! It really looks like it should be an;exorbitant;amount of calories but it’s not at all.

I love the chocolaty frappe bubbles that happen from mixing in the blender!

Add a dollop of Dairy Free Whipped Cream and some cacao nibs and go relax!

Kept an old pic for you to laugh at.

This recipe is adapted from my Low Calorie Iced Coffee Vanilla Frappe;, ;added some cocoa and stevia and…….OH MY!!!

PURE DELIGHT!!

The only difference with this one as opposed to the vanilla frappe, I really feel you need the chocolate stevia to get that mocha flavor. BUT still your call here. If you can do without any sweetness then try it without at first. You can always add it in after. If you don’t have chocolate stevia use vanilla or plain. Or use any other sweetener of choice.

May Reduce Your Risk Of Parkinsons And Alzheimers Disease

In addition to increasing your attentiveness and mood, cold brew coffee may benefit your brain in other ways.

Caffeine stimulates your nervous system and may affect how your brain functions.

One recent study observed that drinking coffee can protect your brain from age-related diseases .

Alzheimers and Parkinsons diseases are neurodegenerative conditions, which means they are caused by brain cell death that occurs over time. Both illnesses can result in dementia, a decline in mental health that makes daily activities difficult.

Alzheimers disease is marked by significant memory impairment, while Parkinsons often causes physical tremors and stiffness .

One observational study found that people who drank 35 cups of coffee per day during mid-life had a 65% lower risk of developing dementia and Alzheimers in old age .

Another observational study noted that coffee drinkers have a lower risk of Parkinsons disease. In fact, men who drink more than four cups of coffee per day are five times less likely to develop this condition (

, 25).

Keep in mind that doesnt appear to offer the same protective benefits as caffeinated varieties .

Summary Cold brew coffee contains compounds called phenylindanes, as well as lower amounts of nonharman and harman compounds. These can help protect your brain from age-related diseases.

Brenda’s Notes:

  • You can use decaf or caffeinated coffee for this. I brew extra coffee in the morning, stick it in the fridge and by the afternoon I can make this keto coffee recipe!
  • Whatever you do, don’t sub coconut oil for the MCT oil, it will clump and harden and that will be the grossest coffee you’ve ever had.
  • Feel free to go without sweetener if you prefer or use your choice of sugar free sweetener to taste.
  • You can eliminate the xanthin gum if you choose, but it helps make a wonderful thicker coffee almost like a smoothie!

May Be Easier On Your Stomach Than Hot Coffee

Many people avoid coffee because its an acidic beverage that may stimulate acid reflux.

Acid reflux is a condition in which stomach acid frequently flows from your stomach back into your esophagus, causing irritation .

The acidity of coffee also tends to be blamed for other ailments, such as indigestion and heartburn.

The pH scale measures how acidic or alkaline a solution is from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral, lower numbers more acidic, and higher numbers more alkaline.

Cold brew and hot coffee generally have similar acidity levels, around 56 on the pH scale, though this can vary depending on individual brews.

Still, some studies have found cold brew to be slightly less acidic, which means it may irritate your stomach less .

Another reason why this beverage may be less irritating than hot coffee is its content of crude polysaccharides.

These carbohydrates, or chains of sugar molecules, boost the immunity of your digestive system. This may decrease gut irritation and the bothersome effects of coffees acidity on your stomach .

Summary Cold brew coffee is only slightly less acidic than hot coffee but contains compounds that may protect your stomach from this acidity. As such, it may cause fewer unpleasant digestive and acid reflux symptoms than hot coffee.

It Can Come In Awesome Flavors

DIY Coffee Concentrate + Speedy Almond Milk Iced Coffee ...

Weve already talked about how great sugar is, but if were being completely honest with ourselves its also kind of boring, right? I mean, by itself, sweetness is wonderful, but theres a whole world of great flavors out there. Why limit yourself to just one kind of sweetness? Variety is the spice of life, after all.

With simple syrup, you open up endless possibilities of flavor options. Want to add a mint flavor to your hot chocolate at Christmas time? Of course you do. What Liquid Sugar Do They Use At Starbucks

How to Make Cold Brew Coffee at Home

Had a plain iced coffee that came sweetened at starbucks yesterday. They used a liquid sugar. Wondering what type of sugar/brand it is because it tasted fantastic, a lot better than my ice coffees that I mix myself.

It might be simple syrup. Just 1:1 sugar to water heated up enough to get the sugar dissolved.

It’s closer to a 2:1. Source: I work there. Sorry.

I don’t even heat it up. just put it in a jar, close the lid, shake it up. after a while the sugar will just dissolve completely.

Is it brown-colored? If so, they’re probably using turbinado sugar for the syrup instead of white sugar. You can find it at most grocery stores.

If you can’t find the Starbucks branded version , I really doubt it is all that different from Monin’s cane syrup.

Get sugar and boil some water in a 2 :1 ratio. Mix in a jar until it dissolves. Now you can add citric acid/lemon/orange juice to prevent cristallization, mix again. Pour in a container, just don’t let the solid sugar that sits in the bottom get in the container. This lasts about 1 month in the fridge.

Want something fancier? Try brown or other kinds of sugar, or instead of water, herbs/spices infussion at the same 2:1 rate . I use a pumpkin spice mix I make at home .

Can You Make Flavored Simple Syrup

Yes, you can! Flavored syrups are fun as well. Here are a few flavoring options:

  • Cinnamon: Add a few sticks of cinnamon to the syrup when it’s hot, and let steep for a few hours or overnight. Strain and store.
  • Herbal syrup: Springs of rosemary, lemon thyme, lemon verbena, sage, mint, and/or lemon balm leaves all make wonderful additions to simple syrup. Add a small handful of the fresh herbs to the hot syrup, steep for about 30 minutes, then strain and store.
  • Vanilla syrup: Add a split vanilla bean to the simmering syrup. Let the vanilla bean cool in the syrup. Strain and store.
  • Ginger syrup: Cut slices from a 3-inch piece of ginger root and add to the simmering syrup. Let the ginger slices cool in the syrup. Strain and store.
  • Honey or Demerara sugar: Use the same 1 to 1 one formula of honey or sugar to water. Honey offers a light floral quality while demerara sugar brings a deeper, richer note than a syrup made with granulated sugar.

How To Make Vertuo Iced Coffee

With a Vertuo machine, you generally get a longer cup of coffee. The dispensed amount can be found on the side of the box and on the underside of the capsule. I recommend going for a glass thats roughly twice the size of the drink you want, giving room for the liquid and the ice.;

Making iced coffee with the Tropical Coconut Flavour over Ice, I started with a 500ml glass. Roughly fill it with ice youre looking at around six regular-sized ice cubes . Adjust ice and cup size depending on the size of your cup if you use Vertuo espresso capsules, then check out my advice for making coffee with an original Nespresso machine below.

Next, put the glass under your Vertuo machine , and insert your chosen capsule into the machine. Tap the button and let the coffee brew as normal, over the ice. Given that theres a lot of ice in the cup, the hot coffee brews as normal but will cool instantly.

Once the coffee has brewed, youre ready to drink it. You may want to leave it a few minutes to fully cool. Generally, as the ice floats to the top, you get a warmer section at the bottom of the glass that can take a while to cool.

Easily Add A Sweet Touch To Your Favorite Drinks

Liquid sweeteners are very handy for a variety of beverages. Cold drinks like iced coffee and iced tea can be difficult to sweeten with regular sugar because it doesn’t dissolve all the way. Even hot drinks can be enhanced with the variety of liquid;sweeteners;available.

When you want to give your next drink a sweet touch, turn to one of these. Some work out better for some drinks while others are universal and can easily sweeten up almost any drink you’re making.

How To Make Dalgona Coffee

Dalgona Coffee is a cold latte drink that comes with a velvety smooth and sweet coffee foam on top. The combination of cold milk and the bittersweet coffee is simply a match made in heaven. And the best part is that you can make it without any special machines all you need is some arm muscle and patience.

Dalgona Coffee is the latest big trend in Korea especially in these strange times of so many being quarantined at home due to the Coronavirus epidemic. I even watched a video of a Korean grandma trying to make the foam with just a spoon lol.. and she was not happy because it was taking so looong..

Now, why is it called Dalgona Coffee?? The sweet and bitter taste of the coffee foam has is very similar to Dalgona, and the color too hence the name. I think its a perfect drink for people who miss going to coffee shops and also who have some extra time on their hands. Make this and it will definitely put a smile on your face because it tastes as good as it looks.

And we certainly all have some extra time on our hands, dont we??? Well, when life gives you lemons.. you know the rest..haha.

So, I made this in about 10 times in all to experiment using different methods and ingredients and also because I would forget to take video or photo of a certain step; I have to say, it didnt work the first couple times but I worked everything out now and you will succeed if you follow my instructions precisely.

Starbucks Liquid Cane Sugar

If you love the flavor of Starbucks iced teas sweetened with liquid cane sugar, then youll want to give this simple syrup recipe a try.

As a bonus, not only is this Starbucks copycat syrup ideal for sweetening iced tea, but its delicious in many other cold drinks, as well.

Plus, youll love how easy it is to make liquid cane sugar syrup at home.

In fact, this simple syrup recipe only has 3 ingredients and takes about 5 minutes to make a batch.

Not to mention, no special kitchen tools are needed, just a saucepan and a stove.

It Is Excellent For Flavoring Hot Drinks Too

How to Make Cold Brew Coffee at Home in a French Press Coffee Maker

Dont get us wrong, just because liquid sugar is great for cold drinks doesnt mean its not good for hot drinks as well. In fact, its still better than granulated sugar because you dont have to worry about your coffee or tea being as hot as the surface of the sun to get it to dissolve. If you prefer your hot drink to be a temperature that doesnt burn a layer of skin from the roof of your mouth, no worries! You can add simple syrup to a lukewarm drink and rest assured that it has dissolved completely and instantly.

Ingredients For Iced Coffee

  • Coffee: Quality of coffee beans matters. To achieve most flavorful coffee, buy coffee beans and grind yourself at home. Also organic is a healthy choice as coffee is heavily sprayed with pesticides. Good news is it is not much more expensive.
  • Milk: Use any milk like almond milk, dairy, coconut, rice, soy or hemp milk. My latest obsession is Califia Farms. So tasty on its own, especially with a slice of carrot cake or gluten free pumpkin cake!
  • Ice:;Ice is a must for this recipe. Dont skip.

Using Drip Coffee Instead Of Instant

We only drink drip coffee at home and usually dont have any instant coffee. So, I actually had to go to the market to buy instant coffee just to test the recipe. But we cant always get or have instant coffee.. so I tried using our regular ground coffee and heres what I did

FYI This substitutes 2 Tbs of instant coffee + 2 Tbs hot water.

To a cup, add 3 1/2 Tbsp coffee ground powder and 5 Tbsp of HOT water. Let it steep for 2-3 minutes like below:

** I have to say using drip coffee is quite tricky. Please note, the results may vary depending on the type of coffee ground powder you have. And I know this is a LOT of coffee so its pretty expensive as far as cost goes.

And using a coffee filter , pour out the coffee liquid. You may need to squeeze out some remaining liquid.

This should make about 2 Tbs of very strong coffee. Now, all you need to do is to add sugar and then whip it up! BTW, you will need to whisk longer when using drip coffee about 8 10 minutes using a stand mixer using a whisk attachment. And by hand.. well, it will probably be like 13 minutes or more I know.. which is just too long but just letting you know its doable.

Above is the foam made with concentrated drip coffee using my stand mixer. I used my favorite Philz coffee grinds and personally, I really prefer this version had a less bitter taste and of course much better flavor. BTW, you will probably not get a very stiff peak with drip coffee but somewhere between a soft and a stiff peak.
