How To Brew Iced Coffee
Strength is of primary importance when making the perfect iced coffee. What many people tend to do at home is brew a regular strength coffee and pour it over ice cubes at the end. This practice is far from ideal because after melting the ice cubes, this will result in a watered-down and weak cup.
A better way to prepare iced coffee is to make your coffee stronger than the regular brew. Our recommended way to prepare iced coffee at home is by using a pour-over brewer, which could be either a Hario V60, Chemex, Kalita Wave, Melitta, or an OXO Brew.
Can You Make Iced Coffee From Hot Coffee
Its possible to make iced coffee from hot coffee, but there are a few things to keep in mind if you plan to try. The biggest thing to remember is that it may take a lot of ice to get hot-brewed coffee down to a cold temperature, and this can dilute it to the point of being undrinkable.
It also takes longer to prepare iced coffee when youre using hot coffee as a base. If youre trying to make your own homemade iced coffee to save time and save some money, you wont be saving a lot of time if you have to sit around waiting for a pot of hot coffee to brew before you can prepare your drink.
A major advantage of using hot coffee as a base for iced coffee is that its easier to stir in solid sweeteners like grain sugar and dissolve them if syrup-based sweeteners are unavailable. The coffees heat can be used to melt the sweetener into it before any ice is added to cool it down.

What Kind Of Coffee To Use
Any coffee you like. We recommend using freshly ground coffee beans to get the best-tasting coffee. The type of roast: light, medium, or dark roast, is up to your preferences.
Use a lighter roast, such as a Kenyan or a Honduran coffee, for fruitier and lighter notes and more caffeine. Alternatively, use a medium to darker roast such as a Colombian Supremo or coffee from the Antigua Valley of Guatemala if you prefer less acidity, more robust flavor, and lower caffeine levels.
What About Cold Brew Coffee

What Type Of Ice Is Best For Iced Coffee
I know this may not seem important but choosing the right ice for your iced coffee is key! Here are your options:
- Crushed ice this is what you see in this recipe. Because I had a ton of coffee to make I picked up a big bag of crushed ice and used it liberally. This is typically what I use for iced coffee
- Medium-sized ice cubes this is usually what people have on hand in their freezer and I say go for it!
- Large ice I like to use larger blocks of ice if I’m going to enjoy my iced coffee outside. They are slower to melt this way!

Remember That Ice Is An Ingredient
In fact, its one of the only ingredients. And if youre an absolute purist , its one of only two ingredients in iced coffeethat is, coffee and water. The solid-state H2O that goes into your brew can actually have a make-or-break effect on your finished drink, though. So definitely use good, drinkable water and ice cube trays that are clean and dont smell. Also, be sure you have a fresh freezer. Start With A Good Coffee For Iced Coffee
To get a good cup of iced coffee, its important to start with a strong foundation. That means choosing a high-quality coffee to act as the base for your iced coffee recipe. For the perfect cup of iced coffee, youll ideally want to select whole beans and grind them at home yourself. Here are some of the reasons why grinding your own beans is preferable %20out%20of%20the%20bean.& text=By%20grinding%20the%20coffee%20beans,taste%20and%20aroma%20in%20coffee.” rel=”nofollow”> Coffee Confidential):
- Ground coffee is vulnerable to contamination. Other smells in the surrounding environment can taint the delicate aromas of coffee, and it is more likely to take on these smells if the beans are pre-ground.
- Ground coffee loses its aroma. After fifteen minutes, ground coffee has lost over half of its original fragrance. This means people who drink pre-ground coffee miss out on the full sensory experience of drinking their coffee.
- Ground coffee takes on moisture. Coffee is water-soluble, which is good for brewing but bad for storage. This means pre-ground coffee is more likely to take on moisture from the air that will ultimately dilute its flavors.
- Ground coffee loses carbon dioxide. This carbon dioxide is a crucial part of how the oils in coffee beans are transferred into the liquid coffee. Without it, old pre-ground coffee does not have the same flavor or aroma impact as it would if it was ground just before brewing.
