Do I Have To Use Espresso

OAT MILK CHAI RECIPE – THE BEST CHAI YOU’LL EVER HAVE

This recipe calls for espresso because its strong, bitter flavor balances out the creaminess of the oat milk and the sweetness of the brown sugar syrup. However, if you do not have an espresso machine, just substitute strong coffee! I recommend using your favorite cold brew or the strongest roast you have in your pantry.

One of the most popular Starbucks chai tea latte modifications is to top an iced chai with a fluffy layer of vanilla sweet cream foam. Flavoring a chai latte with vanilla or pumpkin spice syrup also tops the list of customer favorites.

In fact, the number of ways to customize a chai tea latte at Starbucks is practically limitless.

This is because all the flavors in Starbucks chai black tea concentrate are easily complemented by many other Starbucks ingredients.

Now, the Starbucks menu only list two chai latte optionsâhot or iced. Plus, theres also a chai tea bag for making a tasty cup of Starbucks hot brewed tea.

But customizing your drink is the name of the game at Starbucks. So heres a look at some of the best ways to modify Starbucks hot and iced chai tea lattes.

Just keep in mind, not all modifications can be ordered via the Starbucks app, so you may need to place your order at the drive-thru or in-person.

Additionally, make note, most modifications will add to the overall price of the drink.

Here Are The Brands I’ve Tried In Order Of Which Ones I Liked The Most:

#1. Oatly Barista Edition: balanced, creamy and just a slightly oaty taste. Foams up amazingly either manually or via a frothing machine.

#2. Califa OAT Barista Blend: a great alternative to Oatly it doesn’t froth up nearly as much but the taste is delightful and yummy.

#3. Chobani Oat: a great standard oat milk. I tend to use this when I need a lot of oat milk ie. cereal or baking. But it’s also excellent in chai lattes and other drinks. Also great for foam/frothing.

#4. MALK: prides itself on only having 3 ingredients but it tastes like 3 ingredients, too, and not in a good way.

#5. Trader Joe’s Oat Beverage: worse than I thought it would be given that I love everything at TJ’s. Their almond milk tastes way better than their oat “beverage”.

#6. Minor Figures Oat M*lk: Not particularly memorable and didn’t froth at all.

#7. Open Nature Barista Oat Milk: Also not memorable & no frothing action happening here.

ALSO here is the frother I’ve been using at home:

Starbucks Oat Milk Chai + Copycat Recipe

    Veronica

Unless youve been living under a rock, youve heard about Starbucks rolling out their latest alternative milk option across the U.S. recently.

Honestly, Im surprised it didnt happen sooner.

If youve been a reader of I Try Chai for a while then you know I am a big fan of oat milk. My personal favorite brand happens to be Oatly, which is the brand that Starbucks is using in all their stores.

While I know and taste the difference between a Starbucks chai and an authentic-style chai , I still often order chai from Starbucks. I love it for what it is.

Over time Ive realized that not all the alternative milks taste the best with Starbucks chai. I find that their coconut milk is too tangy for my liking in my chai, and the almond milk clashes a bit. Of course, the day they started serving Oatly oat milk, I had to go and try it for myself!

Note: Starbucks offers Oatly Barista Edition. The difference between this and the original Oatly oat milk is the barista edition has a higher fat content, making it more creamy.

I am happy to tell you all that the oat milk is totally worth trying in your chai, whether you are vegan, dairy free, or just another person who orders a chai latte from Starbucks.

If you havent had oat milk before, it adds a nice light flavor to your drink. Very subtle, and delicious!

Starbucks currently charges a small fee for all milk substitutes in their drinks, but you can use 25 stars to cover it!

    Iced Chai Tea Latte Directions

Looking to drink an iced chai tea latte? Simply let the mixture cool for around 10-15 minutes. Then, serve it over ice. Its as easy as that!

Why is my chai tea latte gritty? The reason why your chai tea latte is gritty is probably that the chai spices settled at the bottom of your cup. This is why we used a fine sieve to remove the sediment so that there is no grittiness!

Whats The Best Milk For A Vegan Latte

Weve done the research so you dont have to! Whats the best milk for a vegan latte? Regular oat milk. Heres why:

    • Oat milk is the best milk for frothing. Its creamy enough so that youre able to foam it using the traditional methods.
    • Oat milk has the best neutral flavor. It has a lightly sweet but neutral flavor thats closer to dairy milk than other substitutes. Coconut milk and soy milk can work for a latte, but they have a stronger flavor.

Oat milk is becoming easier to find and a more popular dairy free milk. Make sure to buy unsweetened oat milk: it has the best flavor. Plus, well be adding sweetner

How To Make A Dirty Chai Latte

    1. Make the chai concentrate: In the microwave or a small pot on the stove, bring water to a boil. Pour water into an 8-ounce mug. Add tea bags and steep for 5 minutes until you have a dark, extremely concentrated cup of chai.

    2. Heat milk: While your tea bags steep, heat milk to steaming. You can do this in the microwave or on the stove. Whisk vigorously or use a handheld milk frother to foam the milk.

Frothing the milk is optional, but it can give your at-home latte a little more of that cafe magic.

    3. Finish the concentrate: Once steeped, discard the tea bags. Add the sugar, and stir until completely dissolved.

    4. Assemble: Pour most of the milk into the chai mixture, using a spoon if needed to hold back the foam before adding the coffee or shot of espresso. Stir, taste, and add more sugar if needed.

    5. Enjoy: Pour the last of the milk and the foam over the top of the latte. Sprinkle with cinnamon or cinnamon sugar if desired, and enjoy!

London Fog Tea Latte With Oatmilk

Chai Rooibos Oat Milk Latte | Im-Worthy Recipes

Inspired by cool, foggy mornings walking Londons cobbled streets, this oat milk version of Starbucks dairy-based London Fog Tea Latte is not your traditional Earl Grey cup of tea.

The flavor comes from the rind of the bergamot orange, a zesty yet earthy citrus fruit. Reinvented with hints of lavender and vanilla syrup, its a modern twist on a classic taste that will keep you warm and toasty wherever you are.

Step 1 Steep the Tea: Boil water and pour 1/3 a cup over the chai tea bag and let it steep for 5-7 minutes.

    Step 2 Heat the Milk:

Microwave: Add 1 cup of oat milk and 1-2 tablespoons of maple syrup to a mason jar. Then microwave for 1.5 minutes until it starts to steam.

Stovetop: You can also heat the milk by putting it in a small saucepan on medium heat until the milk starts to steam. Then pour it into a mason jar.

Step 3 Froth the Milk: Add a lid to the jar. Then while using a tea towel to hold the jar, shake it vigorously for about 15-20 seconds. Remove the lid slowly as some pressure may have built up. Or use a milk frother.

Step 4 Combine Milk & Tea: Pour your steeped chai tea into your mug, then add your frothed milk and give it a light stir. Then sprinkle some cinnamon on top for garnish. And enjoy!

What milk do I use to make it Dairy free?

Choose your favorite unsweetened plant based milk for this chai tea latte recipe from Starbucks. My favorites are unsweetened oat or coconut milk. They both have a creamy flavour. Almond and soy are good options too. However they dont contain much fat and lack the rich creamy flavor my tastebuds expect when it comes to lattes. If you want to have a lot of foam I recommend using an oat milk or any barista blend.

    How I Make It

To make it hot, you simply heat water and mix or froth in a scoop of the mix. With oat milk in the mix, all you need is hot water here, which makes it so easy for you on the go.

To make it cold, start with hot water to ensure everything dissolves fully. You can let it cool in the fridge if you are making it ahead of time or pour it over some ice if youre ready for it now!

    Making Your Chai Latte Oatmeal

    Oat Milk Chai Recipe

Once the tea and spices have been removed, add the oats to the pot, Stir to combine and turn the heat up a little bit to low-medium. Cook the oats for 5 minutes, stirring frequently. If the oatmeal begins to boil, turn the heat down. You dont want it to come to a boil but stay just simmering.

After 5 minutes, the oatmeal should be cooked. If not, continue to cook and stir until it is cooked through. Add in your sweetener of choice. I love honey in my oatmeal so that is what I use and recommend. Removed from the heat and serve. You can add a splash of almond milk on top of the oatmeal just prior to serving, it you like.

I love oatmeal in the morning, its a good filling breakfast and gets me ready for the day. When I am in a hurry I use my chai spice mix to speed up the process. Feel free to do it either way. I also wanted to say that this recipe is gluten free depending on the brand of oats you use. Some oats are processed on shared equipment as wheat so make sure the kind you use is not. Otherwise, oats are naturally gluten free.

Ways To Customize A Chai Tea Latte

Here are all the ways to modify a chai drink at Starbucks.

Note: The cost for each type of customization indicated below is approximate. These prices are subject to change and may vary by location.

    • Mix the drink with flavored syrup. Popular syrup flavors to combine with chai are vanilla, sugar-free vanilla, cinnamon dolce and brown sugar.
    • Combine chai with a flavored sauce. Customer favorites include white mocha sauce and pumpkin spice sauce during the fall season.
    • Select another type of milk. Starbucks chai tea lattes are made with 2% reduced fat milk, but you can select any type of milkâdairy or non-dairy. Non-dairy options include almondmilk, coconutmilk, oatmilk and soy.
    • Top an iced chai latte with sweet cream cold foam. Vanilla flavored sweet cream cold foam is by far the most requested topping on iced chai tea lattes. However, the cream can be modified with any flavor syrup like cinnamon dolce or even pumpkin spice.
    • Add a drizzle on top or lining the cup. Caramel drizzle is the most commonly ordered, but sometimes people order strawberry drizzle , as well.

  • Iced Sugar Cookie Almondmilk Latte

Homemade Oat Milk Latte Recipe – Better Than Starbucks Honey Oat Milk Latte!

When you want a dessert in a drink format, you may assume that a Frappuccino is the way to go. Its true that Frappuccinos are the obvious dessert drink option at Starbucks. But if youre looking for something lighter and less overwhelming than a Frappuccino , the Iced Sugar Cookie Almondmilk Latte is probably what you should be checking out. The sugar cookie syrup that youll find in this drink tastes, surprisingly, very much like a sugar cookie. Its sweet and even has a bit of a dough-like flavor to it. And frankly, its great if youre looking for dessert.

Would we recommend the Iced Sugar Cookie Almondmilk Latte in place of every cup of coffee youre grabbing before work? Not really. Its sugary and tastes better as a sweet treat than a morning pick-me-up. But for those who are looking for something syrupy and satisfying, its a solid option.

Dirty Chai Tea Latte Ingredients And Equipment Notes

    • Chai tea bags: Use your favorite chai brand. Regular or decaf will work just fine.
    • Granulated sugar: If you want to experiment with flavors, try swapping brown sugar in for the white granulated sugar called for in the recipe.
    • Milk: Any milk, including non-dairy milks will work great here . For an extra rich and creamy latte, you can add a splash of half and half or heavy cream to the measuring cup before filling it up the rest of the way with milk.
    • Coffee or espresso: True lattes are made with espresso, but most people dont have espresso-making capabilities at home, so this recipe uses strongly brewed coffee. However, if you would like to use espresso, you absolutely can. Youll need slightly more milk, just shy of ¾ cup.
    • Handheld milk frother:A handheld milk frother is totally optional, but I love using one. While they cant fully recreate the microfoam of a milk steamer, they do a pretty good job of making your at home latte feel a little extra special.

    The Rest Of The Ingredients

    • water Using boiling water helps the spices to dissolve easily when being whisked.
    • black tea Either tea bags or loose leaf tea leaves will work here. If you use loose leaf tea you will need a mesh infuser.
    • milk My favorite dairy free milk option is oat milk, but you could use almond, cashew, or coconut milk too. Hemp and soy also work! Whatever you have on hand is fine.
    • maple syrup For a lightly sweetened latte, maple syrup works great. You could also substitute agave nectar or honey as well.
