Does Coffee Creamer Become More Acidic As It Sits

Yes, if the coffee creamer is just starting to go south, you will see the cream curdling a little bit after adding it to a hot beverage. And thats the time you know its getting more acidic and sourer.

However, coffee itself is acidic. As the heat rises, it begins to curdle the mixture even a little bit more. So, if it doesnt curdle too much, then that particular creamer is still okay.

Which Means You Need To Take Your Own Health Into Your Own Hands

The FDA is NOT doing it for you.

I have found that many people think that Coffee creamer cant be that bad or tell themselves, Im not using that much as their philosophy for why these keep getting added to their morning coffee. .

Problematic Ingredient 1: Carrageenan

According to the Cornucopia Institute, an organization which has been a major driver of removing carrageenan from creamers, milk, and milk-like products, Studies from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s link food-grade carrageenan to higher rates of digestive disease, including colon cancer. Carrageenan has a unique chemical structure that triggers an innate immune response in the body, which recognizes it as a dangerous invader. This immune response leads to inflammation. For individuals who consume carrageenan on a regular or daily basis, the inflammation will be prolonged and constant, which is a serious health concern since prolonged inflammation is a precursor to more serious disease.

Problematic Ingredient 2: Artificial and Natural Flavors

Remember how I said most of my patients think the FDA is testing and regulating the ingredients in your food? It is and it isnt.

But companies have two years to remove the man-made chemicals, so what youre seeing on the shelves very likely still has these chemicals hidden in it.

And this is only 7 man-made chemicals that have finally undergone testing. There are hundreds of others that could eventually be proven to have the same effect that are hiding under this label.

If you are one of the 72 percent that likes cutting black coffee with milk or or another non-dairy option, you’re likely to reach for one of three choices: heavy cream, half-and-half, and coffee creamer. Healthline explains that heavy cream or heavy whipping cream is the high fat cream which normally gets skimmed off the top of fresh milk, and then packaged and sold separately. Cream is usually sorted according to its fat content, though some creams have thickeners added to it to improve its consistency. Half-and-half is the product of mixing cream and milk, giving us a dairy product that is thicker than milk, but lower in fat than cream. Healthline points out that fat-free versions of half-and-half might substitute cream with corn syrup, making for an additive that is higher in sugar.

Coffee creamer, which today comes in a variety of flavors from Dunkin’ vanilla to Coffee mate Snickers contain no real milk, so are typically non-dairy and lactose-free. But of the three, coffee creamer comes with alarm bells, because most are usually made with a mix of water, plenty of sugar, and vegetable oil. While used in very small amounts , the sodium caseinate in the creamer is not a vegan ingredient. It’s a protein derived from milk commonly known as casein and is an important protein in the cheese-making process.

It may seem strange to add in a milk protein to a “creamer” that doesn’t have any other milk ingredients, but it helps keep the product stable. The casein protein helps prevent the water and oil from separating. Plus, casein has been separated from all the other components in milk, so it really is free of lactose .

Since coffee has a high PH level, adding milk or cream can help balance the PH level, especially if you love the darker roasts over the lighter roasts.

What Type Of Coffee Creamer Is Best To Mix In Milk

Usually there are 2 main categories of coffee creamers that are available in the market.

First one is liquid coffee creamer and the other one is powdered coffee creamer.

Both of them have their own pros and cons.

But when it comes to adding creamers to your milk, the best option as per my experience is the powdered coffee creamer.

The main reason behind using powdered coffee creamer is their long lasting period and easy storage.

Most liquid coffee creamers need refrigeration to properly store them and preventing them from going bad.

But powder coffee creamers donât require them to store in the fridge.

You can keep them in a cool and dry place for 1-2 months without any fear of spoilage.

Plus, with powder form, you can easily decide how much quantity you need to add in your milk.

Therefore, it is best to use powdered coffee creamer in your milk instead of liquid creamer.

The best powdered coffee creamer according to my research is Coffee Mate Sugar Free French Vanilla Powder Coffee Creamer.

The best thing about this creamer is that it does contain lactose free, sugar free and gluten free substances.

This sugar free powder creamer is ideal to mix in your daily cup of coffee or a glass of milk.

You can also use their other interesting flavors such as Vanilla Caramel, Hazelnut, and Chocolate Crème, etc.

What Does Milk Add To Our Coffee

My primary reason for every adding milk to coffee has always been for improving the taste. Also, it does something else to the coffee it adds texture, giving it that nice, creamy, light brown color to our hot brewed coffee as opposed to having a cup of straight black coffee.

But of course, there are other components being added to our coffee as well that we cant overlook like additional fat and calories. In fact, a regular eight ounce cup of black coffee can contain as little as four calories. Adding that extra spot of milk or creamer to lighten it up and add flavor? That can be as high as 55 calories. And if youre an average coffee drinker, who drinks somewhere between three to four cups of coffee daily, with milk/creamer, that can come to an additional 200 calories for the day. Just on the surface, if I was dieting, then cutting back on the amount of milk in my coffee would be something I need to look at.

Perhaps consider low-fat milk or other alternative especially if you cant live without that creamy taste, or cant tolerate the bitter taste of black coffee.
