Cold Brew Vs Iced Coffee

HOW I MAKE MY CARAMEL ICED COFFEE

Before we go any further, I’d like to share some basic information about cold brew versus iced coffee.

Cold brew refers to the process of preparing the coffeenot the temperature of the final result. There are plenty of methods for making cold brew. Generally, it begins with scooping out the ground coffee into a jar or a pot, pouring in room temperature water, and then letting it soak for a while, usually 12 hours or more. When I make cold brew at home, I put the jar in the fridge overnight. The next day you will get a super-smooth, less acidic, and highly caffeinated coffee.

Iced coffee, on the other hand, is brewed using hot water to extract the flavor. You start with ground coffee, attach the portafilter to the espresso maker, and then let the machine do the work of extracting the flavor into a cup. Next, you take the espresso, pour it into a tall glass with ice cubes, and add milk. Finally, you can add your optional additions like coffee creamer and/or syrup such as caramel, vanilla, hazelnut, or French vanilla.

Meal Prep Tools For Iced Coffee

  • Pick up some coffee beans or pre-ground coffee such as Lavazza
  • You may need a coffee grinder if you’re using fresh whole beans
  • Check out the it’s a great little coffee maker to use at home and it brews espresso shots too
  • And if you’re feeling really lazy and just want your coffee already, these iced coffee syrups are an AWESOME way to jazz up your summer drinks!

Best Types Of Coffee For This Recipe

Like I mentioned above, cold brew coffee is technicallythe best option for any iced coffee drink. There are plenty of methods for making it at home, or you can purchase pre-made cold brew from the grocery store . That being said, buying cold brew can be expensive, and I haven’t personally committed to the homemade cold brew bandwagon. Instead, I just brew my coffee as normal using my French press or pour over and refrigerate a small portion for iced coffee.

Can You Store Leftover Iced Coffee In The Fridge

Yes and no. This really depends on how much of a coffee snob you are to be honest. If you’re used to a fresh brew, storing any leftovers in the fridge may not be a good idea. Cold brew typically lasts 2-3 days in the fridge if you’ve covered it properly the flavours will last a bit longer because it’s brewed cold.

However, drip coffee that has been chilled has a shorter shelf life before the robust coffee flavour starts to disappear and become stale. I wouldn’t recommend keeping it for more than 24 hours. However, there will be nothing inherently wrong with the coffee other than the taste so feel free to go ahead and judge by your taste buds.

Diy: Caramel Iced Coffee

Make your own caramel iced coffee at home with this easy recipe. This sweet and creamy DIY version tastes just as good as any iced coffee you can buy. Plus, making your coffee at home is guaranteed to save you time and money – it’s a win-win!

Quick Note: This is an updated version of a post that originally appeared on Bright-Eyed Baker in 2012, with a new and improved rendition of the original recipe.

I love an iced coffee. I don’t love spending $5 on a glass of ice topped with what feels like five sips of coffee. And I love a local coffee shop, but I usually don’t spare myself 20 minutes to stop for coffee in the morning before work. This recipe is the answer to my dilemmas — and maybe to yours too! It’s a super easy, sweet, creamy iced coffee, swirled with homemade caramel sauce, and made in under 5 minutes. IT IS SO GOOD.

Why Make Iced Coffee At Home

In case you need more convincing, here are a few of the perks to making your own caramel iced coffees:

It’s cheaper. The most expensive items you’ll need for this recipe are coffee and cream, and I guarantee that you can purchase both of these items for the cost of 3-4 iced coffees from a coffee shop. I don’t know exactly how many homemade iced coffees you’ll get out of one bag of coffee, but it’s definitely wayyyy more than 3-4.

It’s convenient. Going to a coffee shop involves – at the minimum – getting dressed, walking/driving somewhere, waiting in line, ordering, waiting some more, and finally getting your coffee. Making your own iced coffee involves walking into your kitchen and pouring 4 ingredients into a glass filled with ice. If your coffee and caramel are pre-prepped it literally takes 2 minutes.

It’s customizable! Like your coffee a little less sweet? Just add less caramel. Looking for something extra-creamy? Add an extra tablespoon of cream. Make it work for you.

    Is This An Iced Latt

Originally, this post was published as an iced caramel latté. I have since changed the proportions of milk and coffee used in this recipe and it is now more accurately an iced coffee than an iced latté, hence the name change. Iced lattés use espresso, contain much more milk, and should technically involve foam. I personally like having more of a coffee flavor in my drink, and an iced coffee in general is – in my opinion – much more simple and therefore approachable for most people.
