It isnt always the caffeine in these drinks thats the culprit, however. Energy drinks do possess a high amount of sugar which can be dangerous for people who have pre-existing issues with diabetes, heart disease, or obesity. If youre completely healthy, you may not suffer any side effects and can allow yourself to indulge in a Rockstar drink whenever you choose.

A Brief History Of Rockstar

In 2001 Russel Russ Weiner founded Rockstar during a time when energy drinks were the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. beverage market.

From its inception, Rockstar presented itself as an alternative to the market leader Red Bull, it differentiated itself in size and price being 16-fl. oz in comparison to Red Bulls 8-oz can yet selling for the same price.

Rockstar also claimed to have a mixture of ingredients that were scientifically formulated to aid in fast recovery for those who led fast-paced and exhaustive lifestyles such as rock stars and athletes.

This rejuvenating elixir features caffeine, sugar, Panax ginseng, ginkgo Biloba, milk thistle extract, and guarana seed, among other herbal ingredients. As stimulating as the combination sounds, Rockstar did have a few issues with health authorities over its previously high levels of guarana.

It had even been named the Worst Drink by health Magazines and had been replaced by Monster in terms of status. This led to a reduction in the amount of guarana in their drinks.

Three years later, in 2004, Rockstar had a 155% growth in sales and by 2007 it was one of the top three energy drinks in the U.S. having sold over a billion cans.

Amid the success, Rockstar switched distributors from the Coca-Cola Company to PepsiCo in 2009. 11 years down the line, PepsiCo purchased Rockstar Energy for $3.85 Billion.

Ask An Expert How Much Caffeine Is Too Much

Caffeine can provide a boost of energy, help you become more alert, and improve your mood. Sounds great, right? Unfortunately, many people dont realize that caffeine is a drug that stimulates the nervous system and can cause negative side effects.

Depending on the amount of caffeine consumed, one or more of the following may occur: jitteriness, anxiety, irritability, increased blood pressure, stomach irritation, decreased length and quality of sleep, headaches, and abnormal heart rhythm.

The impacts of caffeine and the intensity of side effects can differ for everyone. What is okay for one person could be too much for another. The key is to watch for adverse side effects and decrease or avoid caffeine intake. Extremely high caffeine ingestion can trigger serious health problems such as heart attack, stroke, or even death. Caffeine can cause serious health challenges for children.

The Mayo Clinic recommends the following daily limits of caffeine:

  • Adults: less than 400 mg/day
  • Adolescents: less than 100 mg/day
  • Children: 0 mg/day

Caffeine can be harmful to some groups of people. Is It Bad To Drink 2 Rockstars A Day

Pick a number, any number.

At two Rockstars a day, your body is probably pushing the limit of what is considered a healthyenergy drink consumption given the overall ingredients.

Its not so much the caffeine but the sugar content that I find concerning.

While it isnt as high as some other energy drinks, two cans of Rockstar will still put you over the AHAs daily recommendations.

While its perfectly fine to have 2 Rockstars occasionally, its best you dont do that on a daily basis. Remember, energy drinks are best had in moderation, and having too many in a short time would really dampen the effect.

Personally, I feel that even if you stick to 1 Rockstar a day, you should have the energy and concentration you need to get you through your daily routine.

If you ever want to know what happens if you only drink energy drinks though, have a look at the video below:

The Caffeine Amount Is About The Same

If youre worried that coffee doesnt have quite the same kick as the canned stuff, dont be. According to caffeineinformer, energy drinks have about 80-200mg of caffeine, and 8oz of drip coffee has 110-150mg. Unless youre downing that super-sized Red Bull, youll probably have equivalent caffeine intake from a cup of joe.

Can You Drink Rockstar Energy Every Day

Rockstar Unplugged – Hemp Infused Energy Drink

I wouldnt advise you to have Rockstar Energy every day, but you can have it every day in a safe amount if you want to.

Having Rockstar Energy every day can be harmful to you since it contains a high amount of caffeine and sugar as compared to drinks like Emerge.

Consuming it daily can cause caffeine overdose which can have these adverse effects:

Does Rockstar Help Sports Performance

The answer is tricky, but it’s mostly no. Let us explain.

Drinking a caffeinated beverage, such as an energy drink, will stimulate your nervous system. This stimulation will give you a temporary energy boost. With the right dosage, your mental performance will also receive a boost.

Studies have shown that your cognitive functions can improve as a result of drinking energy drinks. This will allow you to get more done in a short amount of time.

But wouldn’t you rather have a longer-lasting energy boost than a just a short energy spurt? If so, look for a drink with naturally sourced caffeine rather than the typical energy drink with synthetic caffeine.

Caffeine is also a diuretic, meaning it will cause you to urinate, leading to possible dehydration. With 160mgs of caffeine in the 16oz can, Rockstar does not have enough electrolytes to help hydration and prepare you properly for any sort of exercise.

Sugary drinks are also known to make you prone to losing extra fluids. With 54mgs of sugar in their 16oz can, Rockstar certainly falls underneath this umbrella. Again, with not enough electrolytes to help replenish lost fluid, drinking a Rockstar before or during athletic activity is doing yourself a disservice.

What Does Rockstar Taste Like

Original Rockstar Energy and Rockstar Xdurance Preworkout Energy Drink Product Review

With a good balance of flavor, Ive found the taste of Rockstar to be alright all things considered. It actually tastes pretty similar to Red Bull even if the texture is slightly different.

One thing I particularly liked was that Rockstar doesnt have an overwhelming sugary sensation, so if youre like me and are into something with a lighter taste, Rockstar might be for you.

Do Rockstar Energy Drinks Have Alcohol

Official Rockstar Energy Drinks dont contain any traces of alcoholin them.

What youre probably thinking of are mixed alcoholic drinks where they combine energy drinks with alcoholic ones.

Its often believed that this reduces the effect of purely drinking alcoholic beverages, which some studies have been trying to figure out.

However, I wouldnt recommend mixing Rockstar with alcohol purely on the notion that you might feel soberer than you actually are, which could lead to disastrous results.

Lets stick with mixing alcohol with fruits for now.

So stick with just having a Rockstar on its own, its got quite the kick as it is.

How Much Caffeine Is Too Much

Rockstar Original Energy Drink 25% More Caffeine 500ml

While Rockstar, and most energy drink companies, boast about using special herb blends to enhance the bodys performance, caffeine is still the primary substance used to achieve this. Caffeine is a naturally occurring stimulant found in tea leaves, coffee, and some nuts. While caffeine offers the body a lot of benefits such as mental clarity and relief from headaches, there is such a thing as too much caffeine.

Up to 400 mg of caffeine a day is considered safe for an adult. This is equal to four or five cups of coffee a day or 2½ Rockstar 12-ounce energy drinks per day. Everybody is different, however, and some people easily take on more than the recommended amount and have no issues. When dealing with caffeine levels, its important to keep your eyes open and watch for the signs of excess caffeine or a possible intolerance. These symptoms include an increased heartbeat, jitteriness, and an upset stomach.

Are There Artificial Sweeteners In Rockstar Energy Drinks

Besides sugar, Rockstar Energy Drinks contain artificial sweeteners, namely, Sucralose and Acesulfame K.

Sucralose is a zero-calorie artificial sweetener, and is 400 to 700 times sweeter than regular sugar , without the calories that usually come with it.

Acesulfame K, or Acesulfame Potassium, is another zero-calorie sweetener, having 200 times the sweetness of sugar.

While artificial sweeteners are generally accepted to be perfectly safe for human consumption, its also understandable why you might be aversed by their synthetic nature.

Numerous papers have been written on the possible dangers of artificial sweeteners and their possible risks as well.

However, I personally think that the sweeteners in Rockstar shouldnt worry you all that much.

Considering theres actually scientific evidence of what too much sugar or caffeine will do to you, worrying about the potential side effects of artificial sweeteners might be missing the forest for the tree.
