Kos Kaffe Roasting House

New York City’s Best Coffee Shops

251 5th Ave, Brooklyn, NY

Wandering through Park Slope? Kos Kaffe is an inviting spot for food and coffee or tea, and while it looks more like a place to sit down with a meal, laptops are ok here. Keep in mind that on weekends, there are certain hours when people using laptops can only sit at bar tables and the big communal tables. The menu is unique, and coffee comes in huge mugs.

Remi Flower And Coffee

ONE OF THE BEST Coffee SHops in MIDTOWN FOR Instagrammable drinks

Remi is my newest discovery for Midtown coffee shops. Judging by the photos on Google Maps, I was nervous this would be a “style of substance” type spot. I mean, the latte art is something to write home about!

After visiting, I can honestly say it exceeded all expectations.

Remi is part flower shop part coffee shop. There are a few tables inside as well as a cute sidewalk patio setup during the warmer months. I was lucky to grab a spot inside each time I visited.

If you’re looking for a drink almost too beautiful to drink, this is your spot. Some of the popular items include the purple lavender latter, red beetroot latte, blue butterfly pea flower latte, and pink rose latte. Regular coffee drinks are available as well as loose leaf tea from Harney and Sons. The croissants are from Ceci Cela .

WiFi is available for those looking to work.

If you’re looking for a coffee shop near Grand Central Station, Remi is a 14 minute walk.

Kona Coffee And Company

Ready to sample stereotypical Hawaiian coffee in the Chelsea neighborhood? Head over to Kona Coffee and Company which is the only coffee shop that brings Hawaiis premium Kona coffee to New York City.

Established in 2017 and located on the corner of West 21st Street and 7th Avenue, Kona Coffee and Company was founded by Hawaiian native, Tae Kim. Kim arrived in the Big Apple and missed not only the island of Oahu, but also the coffee that he had been brought up with all his life prior to moving to New York. Kona Coffee and Company was founded with the philosophy that a great cafe is not just a place to enjoy your favorite beverage, but also a space where New Yorkers from all walks of life can connect and unwind from their busy lives with a cup of coffee.

Similar to 787 Coffee where the local coffee shop experience is the focal point, Kona Coffee eliminates the middle man distributor and is proud to offer visitors the opportunity to sample fresh espresso beverages from the coffee beans cultivated on the slopes of Mauna Loa and Hualalai.

In terms of the interior of Kona Coffee and Company, visitors will enjoy a space that epitomizes a peaceful environment where everyone can relax and enjoy their drink in comfortable surroundings. The open space feel along with the relaxing vibes create the perfect ambience for guests to get away from the stereotypical hustle and bustle of 24/7 New York City life!

Best New York City Coffee Shops

No, this isnt the name of some weird, super-secret, tea plantation in Manhattan

Instead:

This is a coffee shop that is actually operated by Strand, a famous purveyor of fine used books that everyone MUST visit before leaving New York City.

Therefore It Makes Sense That:

This vintage NYC coffee shop not only produces some fantastic lattes and cappuccinos but that it has an adjoining bookstore too!

No Joke:

This store has some pretty kick ass, feminist books that are perfect for any rabble-rouser in training.

The wannabe feminist in me bought a ton of stuff that I really didn t need.

To Make Poor Financial Choices Like Me:

All you need to do is grab your coffee, walk through the back door, and poof, youre in a well-designed bookstore that has a mildly adequate number of tables and chairs.

Just be prepared to pounce on one of these chairs if you want to actually sit and enjoy your coffee.

But Did You Know:

This bookstore actually leads you into a clothing store if you keep walking back!

Cool right?

Kind of like Walmart only less morally reprehensible and way more expensive.

However:

if youre in the market for a new wardrobe then this is the place for you. And if youre poor like me, just leave your credit card at home so that you dont end up with an empty bank account and a severe case of buyers remorse.

Blank Slate Tea + Blank Slate Coffee + Kitchen

BEST COFFEE SHOPS in NEW YORK CITY and what to see near them

Two of the cutest cafes in NYC, each with its own purpose. One is coffee focused and one is tea focused. Blank Slate Tea is the matcha version of Blank Slate where they are more about the coffee. At Blank Slate they serve Devoción, the only exclusive farm-to-table coffee roaster in the world. In partnership with Blank Slate, Devoción developed a unique custom blend of beans to compliment the menu! Coffee pairing is obviously the new wine pairing.

Both spots are adorable, but I love the plush pink seats and whimsical design on the walls at Blank Slate Tea. Both of the locations serve yummy lunch food, Blank Slate is slightly bigger if youre worried about space.

Neighborhood Background:

This section of Manhattan has been home to millions of immigrants over the last century and a half. It was often the first stop for poor immigrants coming to America for a better life, or at least the possibility of one.

In the mid-to-late 19th century, it was home to huge communities of Irish and German immigrants. By the late 19th and early 20th century, the demographics had shifted, as record numbers of immigrants sailed to New York from southern Italy, Russia, and other countries in southern, central, and eastern Europe.

Between 1882 and 1924, nearly 2 million Russian Jews settled on the Lower East Side alone!

Today, the abundance of luxury condos and boutique hotels, as well as trendy restaurants and bars, makes it hard to imagine what life must have been like for the countless immigrant families for whom this neighborhood was the first stop in America.

So after getting your caffeine fix at Irving Farm Roasters at 88 Orchard , head north along Orchard to visit the Tenement Museum. Youll get a rare glimpse into the lives of poor European immigrants living on Manhattans Lower East Side more than a century ago.

And while youre on the Lower East Side, head to Kossars Bagels & Bialys on Grand and Essex streets if you want to try a traditional NYC bagel or bialy.
