Butter

Honestly, never done this one either, but we have seen plenty of adults do it. Make sure it is unsalted butter though. You dont want too much sodium. Butter makes everything better, doesnt it? Using unsalted, natural butter is healthier for you and doesnt add anything bad to your coffee. It can make it silkier and smoother.

Coconut oil

What cant you use coconut oil for? Cooking, body scrubs, and as a little something in your coffee. Its healthy, its natural, and its good for you. We always have coconut oil in our cabinet. If you have the solid form, just plop a bit in your cup.

Make your creamer

Its not that hard actually. You can do it with only 2 ingredients. You can use cream and vanilla, or cream and almond extract. You have to use it faster because you arent adding all of that extra crap in there. But you can also only make what you need.

Liquor

Now, we are saying this to cover our butts. Do not do this if you are planning on leaving the house. But if you are having a lovely lazy Sunday, why the heck not? Grab whatever you like and add a splash in there. You wont even remember you wanted coffee creamer.

Making Your Creamer Base

Every creamerflavored or notneeds that signature creamy, indulgent base. Luckily, no matter which flavor of coffee creamer youre aiming for, the base stays the same and only requires two common ingredients.

To craft your creamer, mix a 14-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk with 1 ¾ cup of your choice of milk or cream. This is a 1:1 ratio of the two liquids, so if youre using a smaller quantity of sweetened condensed milk, you can easily calculate how much milk or cream to add.

While the sweetened condensed milk should always be included, you can play around with your milk or cream choice, depending on your taste and nutritional preferences. Feel free to use cream, whole milk, half-and-half, skim or 2 percent milk, and even almond and soy milks for different flavors and textures. While opting for cream will make for the thickest creamer, with a more velvety taste, it will also be higher in fat and calories than any of the milk options.

To combine the two dairy products thoroughly, whisk them together in a bowl vigorously, or add them to a lidded jar that you can shake well. Refrigerate your homemade creamer in an airtight jar, plastic container, or even a recycled leftover creamer container for up to two weeks.

What Is The Best Vanilla To Use

As this is an easy-to-make recipe, the best way to incorporate the vanilla flavor is by using a vanilla extract.

These potent extracts add a huge amount of flavor by using just a little bit. You can also substitute it for the following ingredients:

  • A vanilla bean
  • A tiny bit of vanilla paste

Using one of the above-listed vanilla flavorings can make your French vanilla creamer taste a bit different than using a vanilla extract.

The most flavorful option is using a fresh vanilla bean and infusing it with the whole milk and condensed milk on the stove.

This is also true when using vanilla paste. Both options give a better flavor when infused.

To do so, you can follow the steps listed below:

  • Combine all the ingredients in a small saucepan and place it on the stove.
  • Heat it until it summers and turn the heat to low.
  • Let it infuse for just a few minutes, and then remove it from the heat.
  • Let it cool completely and transfer it into a resealable jar for easy pouring.
  • Thats it! After cooling, you can use it just like youd when using the cold mixing method. Its a really easy way to infuse those delicious flavors from vanilla!

What Is The Difference Between Vanilla Extract And Vanilla Bean Powder

Vanilla extract is just that extract of vanilla in a liquor base. A little goes a long way!

BUT the secret to this amazing recipe is vanilla bean powder. Before you toss your hands up in the air and wave your finger at me to say you have no idea what vanilla bean powder is, and that you cant afford vanilla beans in the first place.

So why in the world would I suggest such a thing on a frugal food blog?! Let me remind you that while I personally LOVE vanilla bean powder, its entirely optional.

    Sugar For Your Coffee

You probably already put this in your coffee with the creamer, but just leave out that second part! Its an easy way to mask the acidity and bitterness in coffee, if that is not your thing. • Feel free to play around with the flavorings. You can swap the vanilla extract for another extract of your choosing . Start with a small amount of extract, taste it, and add more until you get the flavor you like. If youd prefer to skip adding the flavoring you can just mix the half-and-half and syrup.
    • The half-and-half can be swapped for any type of milk. I really like the richness of half-and-half, but if youd like a lower fat/calorie alternative you can use milk or nut milk.
    • You can swap the maple syrup for another liquid sweetener. If youd prefer to use sugar, you will need to dissolve the sugar in an equal amount of boiling water .

Alternative Options For Sweetened Condensed Milk

Its not uncommon to confuse sweetened condensed milk with evaporated milk. Sweetened condensed milk is cows milk thats cooked down, allowing water to evaporate. Sugar is then added to create an uber-sweet and sticky concoction that is a staple in every bakers kitchen. Evaporated milk is also cooked down but does not have added sugar and is a much thinner liquid.

Although sweetened condensed milk supplies the thick, decadent base for this homemade creamer, we realize that some coffee lovers may want less sugar, less fat, or a non-dairy option. You can use a milk alternative, like coconut, rice, soy, or almond milk, substitute non-fat milk, or use artificial sweeteners. If youre not using sweetened condensed milk, youll want to cook your mixture on the stovetop to give it a nice, thick consistency.
