I typically go everyday around the same time to my usual coffee spot. I get the same drink everyday and am always greeted with smiling faces. I have about 3-4 baristas that always take care of me.
Today was a little different. I only had a 5 dollar bill after I forgot my purse at home. My morning was crazy so that simple pleasure sounded perfect to start my busy day.
The prices at my usual store went up a little and I wasnt sure if it would cover it all. So as I pulled up I said, Its under $5 right? I forgot my purse today. She takes the money and then hands it back and says to me, Keep it in case you need it today.
I tried to fight it to give it to her even as a tip but she didnt take it. Even it was a 2 minute exchange that act of kindness has seriously made my day.
She could have taken the cash and I would have been happy. I got my coffee and I would have went on my way. She didnt take the money because she felt bad for me.
She didnt take the money because she cared for me. She thought of more than herself, she that what if I really needed that extra $5 today.
Thank you for caring for me as more than a customer, but as a person.

Street Food Cafe Wins Top National Award For Mouthwatering Meals
The cafe puts its ‘heart and soul’ into the food

The owner of a business on the Nottinghamshire border has shared the secret of its success after winning an award for its mouthwatering meals. The Street Food Kitchen on College Road in Long Eaton won the 2023 Good Food Award Blue Ribbon.
Owner Phil Lombardy has a long history of working with food as the former chef for Rolls Royce covering sites across Derby. He decided to take a risk during the lockdown and then offering a street food van which delivers food to businesses based in Long Eaton.

He said winning the award was one of the proudest moments with the business which opened in July 2020. Phil and catering assistant, Julie Paling, put their‘heart and soul’ into the food which has become a huge hit with customers who voted for the company to win the award.
“The food is the secret to our success as we put our heart and soul into it. It’s all freshly made stuff so we don’t just open a packet. We’ve always said you have to wait for the food as we make it fresh to order but we’ve got a great reputation for our food,” he said.
He added: “This award is one of my proudest moments as it means we are getting recognised more closely. We aren’t in the town centre so we are further out so for us to get recognised for this is amazing and as well that people were willing to vote for us to win this award too.”

Jonathan Yang grew up in Temple City with his brother, sister, and loving mom. His mom was a single mother of the triplets, and while she was at work the siblings spent their days with their grandmother who lived in Chinatown. Jonathan says, We walked around with her as she went about her daily routine – newspaper and groceries, and chatted with her friends in the community, at the market, and at neighborhood shops. The library at Castelar Elementary School was like a second home to me and my siblings and weve probably read every choose-your-own-adventure book on their shelves.
Jonathan started in the food and beverage industry early on, actually while he was still finishing his degree in Structural Engineering at UC San Diego. He started a little coffee shop in the campus bookstore called Perks Coffee and later moved on to Bird Rock Coffee Roasters where he learned from the head roaster Tony. Jonathan later moved back to LA. He completed a Masters of Divinity and continued in his love for coffee, first working at Lamill Coffee Boutique and then Cafe Dulce in Little Tokyo.

Fake It Till You Feel It
Once he began his gratitude journey, Jacobs realized his project of writing thank you notes each day was creating a larger shift in his life: that when he saw the impact that thank you had on others, it began to affect him as well.
If you act as if youre grateful, you eventually become grateful for real.
But that process often started with a lot of grumpiness and not a small amount of toil.
I would wake up every morning in my default mood, which is grumpiness, but I would force myself to write a thank-you note, and then another, and then another, he explains.
Despite not feeling grateful at first, Jacobs forced himself to go through the actions of gratitude and eventually noticed a transformation in his default mood.
What I found was that if you act as if youre grateful, you eventually become grateful for real, says Jacobs. The power of our actions to change our mind is astounding. So often we think that thought changes behavior, but behavior very often changes our thought.

Its a Tuesday morning, and Im in the presence of one of the most mind-boggling accomplishments in human history. This marvel I see before me is the result of thousands of human beings collaborating across dozens of countries. It took the combined labour of chemists, politicians, mechanics, biologists, miners, packagers, smugglers and goatherds. It required aeroplanes, boats, trucks and shoulders and hundreds of materials, including steel and bat guano. It has caused great joy, but also great poverty and oppression. It relied upon ancient wisdom and space-age technology, freezing temperatures and scorching heat, high mountains and deep water. It is my morning cup of coffee.
For most of my life, I rarely thought about my coffee, unless it spilled on my jacket
I knew the idea was absurd on one level. Itd be a major headache. Itd be time-consuming and travel-heavy. But it might make me more grateful, which would, in turn, make me less petty and annoyed. Because I needed to be less annoyed. Id estimate that in my default mode, Im mildly to severely aggravated more than 50% of my waking hours. Thats a ridiculous way to go through life. I dont want to get to heaven and spend my time complaining about the volume of the harp music.
