Where Can I Buy Mushroom Coffee

I Drank Mushroom Coffee For 2 Weekshere’s How It Made Me Feel

Chaga Mushroom Coffee – 3 WAYS

Adaptogenic mushroom coffee is gaining popularity for its touted health benefits, so I tried some to see what all the fuss was about.

An important part of becoming fully awake for many adults involves a cup coffee.

I’m one of those adults, and I’ve been pretty happy with it. But in a recent effort to pursue a healthier, less addictive lifestyle, my husband and I made the choice to eliminate said cup of morning coffeeand other heavily caffeinated thingsfrom our home.

Because I still wanted to drink something coffee-like, he came home one day with a surprise: A can labeled MUD\WTR.

MUD\WTR has a similar appearance to cocoa powder. It’s a combination of masala chai, cacao, turmeric, cinnamon, Himalayan sea salt, and four types of mushrooms: lions mane, cordyceps, chaga and reishi.

Why mushrooms? One of the big wellness trends of the last few years has been adding “functional mushrooms” to foods in the hopes of taking advantage of their immune-boosting, cancer-fighting properties. Our nutritionist Brierley Horton, MS, RD, says Mushrooms do have disease-fighting antioxidants, but whether those antioxidants stay present in a hot drink and then improve your health hasnt appeared in published research to her knowledge. But, she asserts, they are certainly not harmful.

In addition, the site shows off comments from a handful of customers stating how tasty it is, and how much better it made them feel. So I decided to give it a try.

How Is It Made

To make mushroom coffee, the fruiting bodies of the mushrooms are extracted and made into an organic powder thats free from fillers, carriers, and other additives.

Through a dual extraction process, the mushrooms are then dehydrated, ground into a fine powder, and mixed into ground coffee beans. This is usually done in a 1-to-1 ratio.

You can purchase mushroom coffee as:

  • instant coffee packets
  • ground coffee blends
  • coffee pods

Mushroom coffee can be prepared using the same methods as regular coffee to make delicious mochas, lattes, or black coffee drinks.

Medicinal mushrooms are dehydrated, ground into a fine powder, and mixed with ground coffee beans to produce mushroom coffee. Its then prepared in the same way as regular coffee.

What Is The Difference Between The Black Coffee And The King Coffee What About The Other Coffee Products

The Black coffee is a darker roast and contains organic reishi fruiting body powder . If you want a more affordable cup of coffee and want to promote healthier detoxification, this is your go-to sachet. The Black coffee is not organic but the mushrooms are.

The KING coffee is organic and contains organic reishi spores. This is their top shelf product. The best of the best. It has a delicious premium coffee taste. I do not taste the mushrooms at all!

Most of the other coffee coffee products are not vegan. They also do not contain the spores. I will only drink the King Coffee!

What Exactly Is Mushroom Coffee

The most popular mushrooms found in coffee blends typicallyinclude:

  • Reishi.
  • Lions mane.
  • Cordyceps.

Thankfully, you cant just toss a couple mushrooms into your coffee and call it a day . The mushrooms used in mushroom coffee go through a drying and extraction process in order to pull the beneficial compounds out, which then get blended into regular coffee.

Most mushroom coffees are actually blends of mushroomextract and instant coffee. Thats why it tastes like coffee because it is!

Mushroom Coffee Vs Regular Coffee

Obviously the biggest difference between regular coffee and mushroom coffee is that the mushroom coffee contains mushrooms while regular coffee does not. When you drink mushroom coffee, you get all of the benefits of drinking coffee plus the benefits of mushrooms.

While regular coffee can attribute to anxiety and insomnia thanks to all that caffeine, the addition of mushroom is said to result in a more balanced cup of joe. So while a regular cup of coffee can leave some people feeling on edge and wide awake when they want to be counting sheep, makers and drinkers of mushroom coffee say its not as likely to make health concerns like anxiety and insomnia worse.

Prepackaged or instant mushroom coffee is also said to be lower in caffeine and less acidic than regular coffee, which makes sense because most mushroom coffee mixtures are equal parts mushroom and coffee. So a cup of mushroom coffee typically has half of the caffeine of a regular cup.

How does mushroom coffee taste? Makers as well as drinkers of mushroom coffee say it does not taste like mushrooms at all. They even say that the mushrooms that are added actually have a similar taste to coffee itself!

Are There Legit Health Benefits

Medicinal mushrooms, also referred to as superfoods and adaptogens, have long been used in Chinese medicines before trendy Americans caught on.

I press Kaskowitz for reasons why the drink is good for you, but he’s quick to point out that his rationale for sipping mushrooms has more to do with his own experience than with verified studies. Kaskowitz, a former health coach and current student of herbology who is battling multiple sclerosis, tells me he’s found certain mushrooms make his body feel less stressed, less overwhelmed more smooth.

He does seem smooth today as he graciously pours out mushroom powder and offers toadstool keychains inside of the vibiest miniature cafe I’ve ever entered. He continues his role as a calming presence in my life.

Part of my purpose as an individual is to help people live their most happy lives,” he says. I buy into it 100%.

And, later, I think I’m experiencing the benefits of the chaga and lion’s mane . I feel a lightness thats similar to a caffeine buzz, but without the crash. And then I realize this jolt-less experience may be totally in my head, because I can’t tell what’s real after I’ve begun implicitly trusting my new wellness sensei.

Dietitian Carrie Gabriel, who also writes for herbal supplement company Hum, offers a second opinion.

Mushroom coffee “definitely has values as an antioxidant and helping with digestion and giving you some focus without jitters, she says. Validation?

Maitake For Vitamin D

Where to Find Chaga & How to Make Chaga Coffee | Superfood Chaga Mushroom Benefits

Among all the species, this is the least exotic. You may not find maitake for sale at your local grocery store, but you will in big cities like LA and NYC, and even tiny cities with a foodie scene like Ann Arbor. Called hen-of-the-wood, its considered a delicacy in gourmet cooking.

Now this one does have a proven advantage for health its the number one vegan source of vitamin D. One cup of it diced has 786 IU of D2, which fulfills the dietary allowance for everyone up to age 70. For older, its 800 IU.

For drinking, only one brand makes maitake. A patent was actually filed for Ming Tsai mushroom coffee .

Other than direct sales on Ming Tsais website, we havent this product for sale online or elsewhere.

So who is Ming Tsai? Hes an award-winning chef at the Blue Ginger restaurant in Wellesley, MA and author of Simply Ming: Easy Techniques for East-Meets-West Meals.

Since his patent application was eventually abandoned, theres nothing preventing others from using it. That is exactly what Four Sigma Foods is doing. They combine maitake, chaga, and green coffee extract with an instant mix. We have yet to see it at Whole Foods or Sprouts, but you can .

Ok But Is Mushroom Coffee Actually Healthy

There are a lot of claims surrounding the benefits ofmushroom coffee. Some of the most popular include:

  • Reduced inflammation.

But is there any truth to these statements?

Mushrooms in general have some really great benefits, explains Lachman. A big one tends to be with reducing inflammation. Mushroomsalso contain antioxidants, which can help support the immune system.

Mushroom coffee also has less caffeine, which usually helps people feel less anxious and sleep better.

But take the long lists of touted benefits specific tomushroom coffee as a grain of salt. There isnt a ton of research out theresuggesting that all of the claims actually hold true.

Lachman suggests that you might be better off incorporating mushrooms into your diet through normal foods rather than sipping special coffee.

Make Your Own Mushroom Coffee

I hope the title of this post wasnt too misleading. Making your own mushroom coffee is as simple as adding a teaspoon of dried mushroom powder to your already existing morning beverage, be it coffee, chai or matcha, or a smoothie. But it took about a year for me buy the powder on my own and try it, so Im here to tell you that it can be done! Purchasing an already-blended mushroom powder can be the gateway to even more adaptogenic support to your day.

When purchasing mushroom blends its important to check where the mushrooms are sourced from. Mushrooms coming from China, even when organic, have been found to be contaminated with heavy metals and pesticides. I choose the Solaray brand because they grown their own mushrooms in the US under stringent conditions.

There are also two different kinds of medicinal mushrooms: the fruiting body and the mycelium. The fruiting body is the part of the fungus that grows up out of the ground, and the mycelium is the root system. This particular powder is the fermented, dried mycelium. There is a debate among mushroom folk about which part is more beneficial, but you can do your own research starting with this informative article from Robert Dale Rogers in FUNGI magazine.

This mushroom blend features:

  • Cordyceps
  • Lions Mane

How I Use Medicinal Mushrooms

I am a big fan of Four Sigmatics mushroom coffee and elixir blends. When I was working in an office, I took a box of their Create instant coffee to work and each day had my own special ritual: At around 10:10 a.m I would have a cup of mushroom coffee with cream. They also have hot chocolate and matcha offerings, with different medicinal mushroom concentrations.

Then I left my job and realized that my mushroom coffee ritual wasnt going to be sustainable for an obvious reason: the box of coffee is on the spendy side, and my husband works in the coffee industry and actually roasts our own coffee out in our garage! So, I was drinking instant coffee while an espresso machine sat on my counterjust to get the benefit of medicinal mushrooms.

I decided to make my own mushroom coffee by simply adding a blend of dried medicinal mushrooms to my morning cup and save my Four Sigmatic mushroom coffee for traveling.

Solaray makes a blend of fermented organic medicinal mushrooms that comes in a 30-serving jar for $17-20, a significant savings compared to purchasing a box of 10 envelopes of Four Sigmatics for $10-12.
