When I reviewed the Philips LatteGo 3200, I was actually pleasantly surprised. Sure, the machine was pretty darn noisy in operation, and the cappuccino milk foam left a lot to be desired. However, for $799.00, I felt like this machine represented really good value for money.
As weve seen, the 5400 LatteGo has quite a few necessary improvements, including a better milk system and a prettier user interface. Whether or not those justify spending more isnt really for me to say.

Philips 5400 Lattego Coffee Machine Cleaning
While coffee and other beverages seem less modern than elsewhere, Philips sets a very good example when it comes to cleaning and descaling.
The AquaClean filter obviously does its job, the removable brew group is easy to rinse and the water tank is conveniently removed from the front. Plus, the reservoir can be cleaned and refilled in no time at all.

During my Philips 5400 LatteGo review, I noticed that the machine can bring out this profile really well, even if there are differences between the coffee specialties. Once again, Im less than enthusiastic about any fully automatic coffee machine drink that purports to be coffee.
To prepare anything at all that remotely approaches the full body of a real coffee, youll want to use my hack:
Instead of setting the Philips to brew one coffee at 7 ounces , set it to brew two coffees at 3.5 ounces and then pour them both into one cup.
Still, even with this trick, I find the café crema and its relatives once again too thin. that said, the coffee has a very thick crema, which should indicate higher intensity.
This clearly shows how the crema from a fully automatic machine is an optical illusion, kidding you into believing you have a perfect extraction!
However, I have nothing at all against the espresso from the Philips. Its complex, full-bodied and aromatic. Plus, its delivered at a good temperature and makes a drinkable, fresh impression immediately after preparation.
Is The Delonghi Eletta Easy To Use
Super automatic espresso machines are specifically designed with two things in mind. Firstly, to make life as easy as possible. And, secondly, to offer a level of coffee customization that you would get from a more involved espresso machine.
The DeLonghi Eletta has 3 one-button coffee options: latte, flat white, and cappuccino. It seems a bit odd that there isnt a one-button espresso option but this machine is very much geared towards coffee drinkers who prefer a milk-based beverage.
However, if espresso is your drink of choice then it is complicated to make. This is also great if you want to add your own combinations of milk and foam to your espresso. To make, you just have to select your strength before pouring, which takes all of 5 seconds.
The buttons are self-explanatory to make things easy:
Starting in the top left, next to the on/off switch, is the coffee quantity button and below this is the aroma selection to choose your preferred taste of coffee. The bottom row has the one-touch drinks options, the milk menu, a button for hot water only, one for steam, then for long coffees, theres the long button. Finally, are the button for 1 or 2 coffees.
Espresso drinkers will probably want to dial the strength up and the grind size right down. The default settings on the Eletta Cappuccino, like all super-automatic espresso machines, tends to make a slightly weaker espresso than is ideal.

Are you looking for a DeLonghi automatic coffee machine but you dont drink milky drinks? If so, the DeLonghi Dinamica is for you.
Its almost identical in functionality to the Eletta but it only has a manual milk frother. So, as long as youre happy to manually froth your milk or if you dont drink any milk-based coffees, then you can save a lot of money by buying the Dinamica. All without compromising on quality, just removing some of the expensive added features.
Delonghi Eletta Cappuccino Top: Whats It Like To Use
Despite looking serious and offering more options than a restaurant menu, the DeLonghi Eletta Cappuccino Top is ultimately about longer-term simplicity. And with a coffee machine that means solid self-maintenance.
It gives itself a rinse out on boot-up and on turning itself off, which as standard happens automatically after 30 minutes of being left idle. Just as important, theres an auto clean setting on the milk reservoirs control dial, which fires some hot water through the spout.
All you have to worry about yourself is keeping the DeLonghi Eletta Cappuccino Top stocked-up with water and beans. And, naturally, you have to clear out its waste buckets every now and then.
The DeLonghi Eletta Cappuccino Top even simplifies this, though. The used coffee pucks and the water tray are part of the same pull-out section, meaning theres just one part you need to remove when you give the machine a clean-up.
This sort of design style lets you take a very lazy approach to coffee, which many of you will love. However, its not as instant as a simpler, more manual espresso machine.
Starting from cold, it took us one minute 47 seconds to make a single coffee. Thats not a long time, but every time the DeLonghi Eletta Cappuccino Top is turned on you do need to sit through the cleaning process.

Having read all the mixed reviews and being torn over whether to purchase a DeLonghi Eletta machine, I chanced it anyway and brought one, and I HATE IT!
Nearly all the negative reviews are correct!!
Its one of the noisiest machines Ive had but the worst of all, the coffee is barely hot!!
You have the option of selecting the water temperature and even if you put it on the highest temp setting. Its still not overly hot.
So, I find myself having to make a coffee and then put it in the microwave. Disgraceful given the money spent.
To prospective buyers dont be me and be caught out chancing it.. the reviews you read are right!

Doesnt Get Hot Enough
My machine arrived yesterday and the aesthetics is great. Was quite easy to set up, but its just not producing hot coffee or milk more lukewarm.
Ive turned off power saving mode, set the temperature to level 4 of 4, enabled the cup warmer, tried only milk, only espresso and still lukewarm coffee.
Ive tried the water spout and steam comes out, but more after bean to cup experience.
Not sure if my machine is faulty? I read lots of reviews prior to buying and the majority are good.

Was apprehensive about buying such an expensive machine, However I`ve made the right choice. This machine is a little bit complicated but my husband sorted it out for me. Now that I`ve set my personal setting this machine just does its thing and produces great cuppucino`s.It`s menu, has many, many setting and can be complicated but with the amount of options this machine has it`s no wonder it is a bit complicated, You can adjust everything from the grind of the bean, the cup volume, strength of coffee etc, but once set, it`s a breeze. It will make coffee to suit individuals or just a run of the mill type cuppucino.

Delonghi Eletta Vs Magnifica Xs
The Magnifica XS is an entry-level machine from the DeLonghi super-automatic range. Although its always worth checking the prices as theyre all priced independently and you can sometimes get a Dinamica or basic Eletta model cheaper.
If you arent the best at working out tech , then the Magnifica XS is not a great coffee machine. It doesnt have LCD displays, instead, it relies entirely on buttons, dials, and LEDs for customization. So, its much easier to make a mistake and you need to pay attention.
The milk frothing on the Magnifica XS is also manual. Although it does come with a cappuccino tip for the frother that works pretty well it is marketed as a cappuccino machine, after all.

Delonghi Eletta Cappuccino Top: Design And Features
The DeLonghi Eletta Cappuccino Top is quite an imposing presence. While not desperately wide, it is both tall and deep, and therefore best-suited to larger, open-plan kitchens where its less likely to dominate the work surface.
In our test kitchen, it rather pulls focus like an entitled TV star. Then again, perhaps thats the point.
Theres a little more to the DeLonghi Eletta Cappuccino Tops design than pure form, seen in the leaning front and the excess of chrome. Striking it is, but not in the cute style many smaller machines go for. This is an 11kg monolith.
However, its layout is fairly neat, and familiar among bean-to-cup machines. The right side of the lower part is a pull-out 1.8l reservoir whose level is obvious from the side, but invisible from the front, where it merely forms part of the white/cream and chrome 2-tone design.
Up on the top is a 400g bean intake with a rubber-sealed top to maintain freshness should you not want to drip-feed the DeLonghi Eletta Cappuccino Top daily.
You can see one of the machines neat extras next to the bean intake: a small chute for pre-ground coffee. Its sort of nudged into the menu system as an oh go on, if you must extra, because naturally bean-to-cup coffee is the main draw of the machine.
For those who want more involved barista-style coffee-making, the milk reservoir can be swapped for a traditional steam/hot water spout. Of course, is thats what youll want 24/7, this probably isnt the right machine for you.
