How To Make These Recipes

How to make Reishi Mushroom Coffee with Andrew from Mossy Creek Mushrooms

To make any of these recipes, add all ingredients to a blender , and blend for 30-60 seconds until creamy and frothy. Blending these drinks creates the most amazing foamy coffee drink, even if all you add is a bit of coconut oil or butter.

My go-to mushroom coffee latte is 1 packet of Mushroom Coffee blended with a splash of almond milk and MCT oil but sometimes I like to get a little fancy and make one the latte-inspired recipes below.

Coffee Mushroom Coffee Alternative

Im one of those people who never got into the coffee habit. On a roadtrip Ill have one, if Im traveling somewhere special Ill have one , and if its in ice cream, yes please. But coffee isnt something I have to have to start my day. You wont see me in a t-shirt that says dont talk to me until Ive had my coffee.

Some of you may know that I have some fun coffee alternatives on the site for you, and I do love me some roasted dandelion root tea. There is something lovely about the ritual of making a decadent hot beverage for yourself in the morning though, or as a nightcap, or as a treat in the middle of a long work day.

For this reason, I have put all of my favorites into a mix for a coffee-like powerhouse of a drink, and Im hooked. Go ahead and play with the mixture to suit your tastes/needs, you can leave out certain ingredients, or add more. You can add cinnamon, cardamom, dried, powdered orange zest, maybe some cayenne. I tend to keep the batch basic and change up each mug I make with those goodies. Pantry-to-plate it, customize, and have fun.

Now, you will need a spice/coffee grinder to powder certain ingredients unless you can find them already powdered. If you dont have one, borrow one from a friend, co-worker, or neighbor and thank them with some Coffee.

This makes enough for months. Ive been working on this giant container for 6+ months

Just look at this richness. Not. Coffee.

2. Whisk it all together until uniformly mixed.

Enjoy!

Coffee Minus The Jitters

One of the reasons I was so interested in switching my regular coffee routine over to Four Sigmatic Mushroom Coffee was over the last year or so, Ive grown increasingly sensitive to caffeine. Four Sigmatic coffee blends have about half the amount of caffeine as regular coffee. I can handle it, woohoo!

Coffee is also high in antioxidants, can improve focus and productivity, I truly enjoy everything about it from its flavour, to the routine of a morning cup of coffee, to its glorious smell, and I really didnt want to give it up.

Thanks to the functional mushrooms in mushroom coffee, now I can enjoy those benefits and support my metabolism without getting the terrible jitters regular coffee had been giving me.

How To Make Whipped Coffee At Home

ShroomDNA Mushroom Coffee 12 Packs DNA707

It wont take you long to make whipped coffee, and really anyone could do it with minimal equipment: basically a mixing bowl and an electric mixer.

Ingredients youll need:

  • Instant coffee. For best result, I recommend instant coffee powder. Some people tried with regular coffee but they usually obtain mixed results.
  • Sugar. Granulated sugar is fine, but the recipe also works with brown sugar and even coconut sugar. You can go lighter on the sugar if you want, but dont cut out sugar completely or you wont have this fluffy texture youre looking for.
  • Hot water. Just go for boiling water from your kettle for quicker results.

Then all you need is to beat with an electric mixer for 3 to 5 minutes, until you get a pale, fluffy texture. Once ready, add ice cubes to a glass, cover with milk up to two thirds of the glass, then gently spoon the whipped coffee cream on top. Depending on the size of your glass or cup, you can make one or two servings with the suggested measurements of the recipe. But you can easily double or triple the recipe as needed!

How To Make Mushroom Keto Coffee

The guide you need to plant-based keto coffee with functional mushrooms.

Its the coffee thats claiming to surpass even your strongest espresso shot when it comes to energy. Its said to be so filling that you dont need breakfast. So rich you dont need milk and sugar.

Its keto coffee but what exactly is it?

Below we breakdown what keto is, what its benefits are when applied to coffee, and two recipes you’ll want to whip up promptly.

What is keto?

Chances are if youve walked into any health store in the past few months youve seen all kinds of products labeled keto and wondered what it is and why its everywhere lately.

To keep it short the term keto is used to reference foods, drinks, or other substances that fit into the guidelines of the ketogenic or keto diet.

The keto diet is a very low carb, high-fat, and moderate protein diet that excludes sugar, grains, legumes, and other high-carb veggies and fruits. Its often used for weight loss, focusing on shifting your bodys primary energy source from glucose to fat.

On any normal day, your body uses glucose from carbs as its main source of fuel. The problem with this is that if you are constantly consuming heavy amounts of carbs, your body never gets the chance to switch into fat-burning mode, which can make shedding fat difficult.

What is keto coffee?

Other popular versions of keto coffee, commonly called Bulletproof coffee, contain ghee or butter alongside MCT oil.

Alternatives To Cream And Sugar

Four Sigmatic doesnt have that acidic bite that some regular coffee can have so I dont feel the need to add any milk or sugar to mine. It tastes great just on its own! If you prefer your coffee with a little milk and sugar, here are some healthy options to do so:

Most days I drink my Four Sigmatic Mushroom Coffee black. I love the strong, rich coffee taste and prefer it to sweeter coffee first thing in the morning. If you like your coffee on the sweeter side, I recommend using one of the following natural sweeteners per 1 cup of coffee:

  • 1-2 tsp coconut sugar
  • 1-2 tsp pure maple syrup
  • 2 small soft dates
  • 6-8 drops organic liquid stevia extract

Selecting Your Mushroom Supplement

How To Make Mushroom Coffee

Most products marketed as mushrooms are actually myceliated grain, a precursor to the mushroom , and the rice or grain on which the mycelium is grown.

A high percentage of myceliated grain contains between 35-60% starch instead of beneficial fungal matter. The starch serves as nothing more than a filler. You can learn more about how myceliated grain is grown.

Several studies conclude that absent the fruiting body, what is commonly and simply known as the mushroom, the medicinal compounds, which provide much of the benefits, may be severely diminished. This is because the highest concentrations of beta-glucans are found in the fruiting body as opposed to the mycelium.

Is Mushroom Coffee Different From Regular Coffee

While coffee is praised very much for its diverse health benefits that dont mean its entirely without several downsides. Certainly, it wont make you blind or a terrible student or any other such serious side-effects. However, in some people, coffee can greatly impact the body in terms of sleep patterns, digestion, acidity, and several other health-related factors.

Mushroom coffee is capable of bringing balanced body stimulation while using much less caffeine than typically found in standard coffee. This also means that you can enjoy the energy boost without having to experience the kind of sleep disturbances normally associated with drinking regular coffee.

Coffee is loaded with antioxidants and when you incorporate mushroom, you are effectively adding, even more, thus providing your immune system with a super-boost.

How To Choose Your Mushroom Coffee And Alternatives

When deciding which type of mushroom coffee to buy, there are a number of personal decisions to take into consideration. Here are some of the possibilities that are going through your head right now.

  • Are you trying to cut caffeine? Choose the Best Overall Mushroom Coffee Substitute
  • Do you want the best mushroom quality? You are in luck! Choose any tab.
  • Is the drive for mushroom coffee because you want better focus? Choose Lions mane or Cordyceps mushrooms.
  • Perhaps you want more from your morning drink for your immune system? Choose a mushroom mix-in.
  • Do you want to simply have a mushroom powder you can easily mix into your normal coffee? Also choos a mushroom mix-in.
  • Price is your most important factor? Choose the Bargain mushrooms.

If you are asking yourself these questions, I give you each category above separated by tabs above to help you find the best product for you.

For example, if you are trying to cut caffeine out of your diet, the best mushroom coffee substitute out there is Medicinal Foods Coffee Break. While not technically coffee, this would meet the bargain category too if it was. It is just over $0.60 cents per serving.

While this brand is a smaller company, this can often mean you are getting a higher quality product. Unlike many other big brands out there, they are very clear that they grow their mushrooms in the United States, have third-party testing, and also use all organic ingredients.

In fact, you can make mushroom coffee anyway you like in order to match your specific needs and taste preferences.

There are lots of benefits to be gained by drinking mushroom coffee, which is probably why its growing in popularity. When you consume regular coffee, you get the caffeine jitters. It does have some antioxidants and it can activate your nervous system, but thats pretty much it.

You only get half the caffeine of regular coffee, and your body benefits from the amazing healing properties of medicinal mushrooms. For instance, adrenal gland support, mental focus, and even more antioxidants than plain old coffee.

You can buy mushroom coffee from a company, but you can also brew DIY mushroom coffee at home with just a few ingredients. All you need is the mushroom powder of your choice and whatever other coffee equipment you typically use to brew coffee at home.

Drinking Reishi Mushroom Coffee For Polysaccharides

People who consciously choose to consume reishi mushrooms do so for its constituents. For one, there is a high amount of polysaccharides found in reishi. According to Paul Stamets, the fruiting body of the reishi contains 41% beta-glucan.

The book Medicinal Mushrooms, A Clinical Guide by Martin Powell discussed these constituents and provides better understanding for those unfamiliar. In the book he goes over the fact that terms regarding constituents overlap, leading to some confusion. These terms include polysaccharides, proteoglycans and beta-glucans.

Powell then defines beta-glucans in the following way:

The term beta-glucan refers to the beta-linked glucose molecules that form the typical fungal polysaccharide. However, very few of the immunologically active polysaccharides from mushrooms are pure beta-glucans. Most are hetero-glucans, containing other sugar molecules, such as galactose, xylose or mannose, as well as glucose.

Iced Mushroom Coffee Recipe

Chaga Mushroom Coffee – 3 WAYS

Iced coffee, including iced mushroom coffee, isnt necessarily as simple as just making a pot and putting it in the fridge. Iced coffee takes a bit more to successfully pull off, and also depends on exactly how you have it.

That said, this is a very simple mushroom coffee recipe.

Start by making iced coffee. Iced coffee requires double the concentration of regular coffee, as you dont have hot water infusing with the grounds and mushrooms. The easiest way to do it adds the correct amount of grounds to a french press, then depressing the plunger and leaving in the refrigerator overnight or at least for 8 hours to infuse.

You can also use a dedicated cold coffee brewing station or simply put the grounds in a bottle, add water, shake and leave to brew. Just make sure to filter the grounds out later.

Once the coffee has had at least 8 hours to infuse, its time to add any extra ingredients.

The easiest is to blend with milk and the sweetener of your choice. You can also opt for full-fat coconut milk and any other flavoring agents of your choice. Add chai spices for a cold chai tea flavor its really all up to you!

    How To Make It

The first part of making your mushroom coffee is to get your mushrooms! You can buy them as mushroom powder, the dehydrated fruiting bodies ground into a powder, or you can get some of these mushrooms and dehydrate and grind them yourself. We have instructions on drying reishi mushrooms on our blog.

Mushroom coffee blends are typically half mushroom powder and half ground coffee. If you make your own, you can brew it with your favorite kind of coffee. If using whole bean coffee, store your beans and your mushroom powder separately and mix when you grind your coffee for brewing. Mushroom powders should be stored away from light, in an airtight container.
