Move Over Pumpkin Spice Latte Here’s An Autumn Cold Foam Coffee You Can Make At Home

ICED COFFEE | DIY Iced Coffee At Home | COLD BREW COFFEE Recipe

Starbucks drinks may be all the rage, but a new pumpkin beverage can bring fall romance to your kitchen without the price tag.

Pumpkin cream cold foam iced coffee will ease you gently into the season.

If you’re not ready to let go of summer and all its refreshing iced-coffee concoctions, but you feel the gentle tug of fall on your cardigan sleeve, I’ve got the perfect early autumn beverage that won’t cause you to break into a hot sweat. And no, it isn’t a pumpkin spice latte.

Pumpkin cold foam iced coffee is the creamy and spiced ice beverage of which I speak. It can be found at Starbucks, but it’s not terribly difficult to make at home. And once you make the foam — the only mildly time-consuming part — you can keep it in the fridge to make more pumpkin spice drinks all week. You can even dollop the foam on other desserts.

Everything you need to make a pumpkin cream cold foam iced coffee.

The two ingredients you might have trouble finding are pumpkin pie spice and pumpkin puree. But as we roll through September and into pie season, most stores should be stocking up on both.

What Makes Iced Coffee So Special

Did you know that every morning, rain or shine, sleet or snow, I drink iced coffee?!

It’s my absolute favourite way to wake up there’s something so refreshing about a big tall glass of slightly sweetened iced coffee, but the same old thing can get boring so I’m here to bring you outside your routine to try a few new spins on everyone’s fave summer drink.

I’m convinced iced coffee is better than hot coffee because it’s kind of like a dessert in a glass: add in your ice, your coffee, a splash of flavoured syrup and dairy milk of choice. It’s an amazing combination worth trying, and it’s SO easy to do at home!

Homemade Iced Lattes And Mochas

Ive spent a good amount of energy;perfecting my homemade espresso recipes using the Aeropress Espresso Maker . Ive actually started to prefer what I make at home over Starbucks. But whats a latte-loving girl to do when the weather heats up? Put it on ice!

I could make a hot latte and pour it over ice, but I dont like how quickly the ice melts, leaving me with a watered down drink. I searched the internet and found several recipes to make a cold-brewed coffee that claims to be smooth and less bitter that traditionally brewed java, but I dont want iced coffee, I want a latte. Sugar, milk, and all.

I decided to just modify the cold-brewed iced coffee recipes and make it a latte! The result is a smooth, rich, sweet drink that is a snap to make and doesnt require any coffee making equipment! Bonus that its insanely cheaper than anything youll get at your local coffee shop and, dare I say, better?

This is the ideal recipe for spring and summer, and especially nice if youre camping and dont have electricity .

The first step is to cold-brew yourself some coffee concentrate.

Can You Store Leftover Iced Coffee In The Fridge

Yes and no. This really depends on how much of a coffee snob you are to be honest. If you’re used to a fresh brew, storing any leftovers in the fridge may not be a good idea. Cold brew typically lasts 2-3 days in the fridge if you’ve covered it properly the flavours will last a bit longer because it’s brewed cold.

However, drip coffee that has been chilled has a shorter shelf life before the robust coffee flavour starts to disappear and become stale. I wouldn’t recommend keeping it for more than 24 hours. However, there will be nothing inherently wrong with the coffee other than the taste so feel free to go ahead and judge by your taste buds.

So this is one that trips people up. There is a difference between iced coffee, and cold brew. Iced coffee is just that – hot coffee thats been cooled down by adding ice. That means the caffeine content will be exactly the same as if you had just drunk the coffee in the first place. Cold brew is a different matter – its brewed using cold water, which is thought to extract less caffeine so it might well pack less of a punch.

Tools For Making Cold Brew

It took me some time to find the best containers to make my cold brew. I like to use wide mouth mason jars because they are easy to pour from when its time to strain the coffee. You can also put the lid on and gently shake the jar to mix the water and coffee grounds together.

You can fit 3 cups of water in a quart size mason jar, which is perfect for steeping 3/4 cup of ground coffee beans. I usually make double that amount, using two mason jars.

Some of the water will be absorbed by the coffee grounds, so 3 cups of water and 3/4 cup of coffee yields me about 2 cups of coffee concentrate. Remember, youll probably want to dilute your coffee concentrate with some water when you serve it.

Another good option is to combine the coffee and water in a large French press or large liquid measuring cup, since both have a spout for pouring.

Make Iced Cold Coffee

6. Add 6 or 7 ice cubes. For a thicker blended cold coffee use just 2 to 4 cubes of ice.

7. Then pour in 2 cups of chilled milk . To make this recipe,;I used whole milk. See FAQs below for low fat cold coffee tips.

8. Blend once for again just a few seconds, until everything is mixed well and you get a nice frothy and foamy layer on top.

9. Pour into tall glasses and serve cold coffee immediately. The frothy top layer will settle into the beverage as it sits, so its best to enjoy blended iced coffee right away.

How Do You Make Iced Coffee

Youll need a tall glass and a spoon long enough to reach the bottom of that glass.

Fill that glass full to the rim with ice. If you really want to get serious about your iced coffee, you can make ice cubes out of coffee too. Then you wont get that watered-down effect.; And if youre into that flavored sort of coffee then go for it.

Pour room temperature coffee into the glass.

Fill it almost to the top.

Pour in the white stuff. Heres where you get to make a big decision. Do you want to go all out and make this a decadent treat? If so, then add cream or half & half. If you want to go a little lighter, use whole milk or fat-free half & half. And lighter still, use nonfat milk.

Take a moment to watch the swirls sink to the bottom and mix in with the coffee. Its a magical moment. ð

Add a couple spoonfuls of sugar or whatever sort of sweetener you usually add to your coffee.; In the recipe notes below, I share how to make sugary simple syrup in case you prefer to use that instead of granulated white sugar.

Stir it all up!

Add a purple straw. If youre a straw person, that is. And drink up!

How Does Dunkin Donuts Brew Iced Coffee

Before you start making your own blend, its a good idea to find out what some of the best-known coffee spots in the world are up to.

Dunkin Donuts uses great quality, whole coffee beans for all its blends. It starts off by brewing coffee in a coffee maker. The hot brewed coffee is combined with sugar and half-and-half until everything is well-combined, at which point, cold water is added to the blend. This brings the brew down close to room temperature.

The coffee is covered and chilled; then, the glass is filled with ice and whipped cream if ordered. Dunkin Donuts does certainly also offer cold brew coffee in their menu should you prefer that over traditional iced coffee.

Dunkin Donuts also offers some hot tips for homebrewers to brew iced coffee:

  • They recommend adding 4 teaspoons of ground coffee to one glass of iced coffee.
  • They also recommend not making too much extra coffee, since the stored brew will start losing its great flavor in a few hours.
  • Most importantly, they advise you that you shouldnt store coffee grinds or coffee beans in the fridge or freezer since theyll absorb the moisture and aromas from other items. Keep them in a dry space in an airtight container.

This chocolate iced mocha is made very similarly to the vanilla latte, and you probably already have the main ingredient at home: cocoa powder! Make the simple syrup from the Vanilla recipe above, mix in a tablespoon of cocoa, and youre good to go. Start with an empty cup full of ice, pour your espresso shots overtop, mix in some milk and some chocolate syrup. Super easy!

Making The Iced Vanilla Latte

HOW TO MAKE STARBUCKS ICED COFFEE AT HOME

Vanilla lattes are so easy to make and you dont need to splurge on an expensive vanilla bean to get good flavour with this syrup. Like the rest of the syrups here, the formula is pretty straightforward. Make a plain simple syrup by mixing boiling water and sugar together, then add in your flavouring of choice.

For this vanilla latte, I used plain old artificial vanilla extract but you could use the more expensive pure extract or opt for the vanilla bean if you can find them. But really, the vanilla latte is the easiest of all to make. Like the machiatto, start with an empty cup full of ice. Brew two espresso shots and pour them over the ice, then stir in 1 cup of milk and add vanilla syrup to your taste. Yum!
