How To Make Hot Coffee (Perfect Frothy Coffee At Home)

Here’s how it works: Grind the coffee coarsely, which you can do yourself at home or wherever you buy the beans. Combine the grounds with water, then let it steep overnight, or for around 12 hours.

During this time, the coffee slowly infuses into the water, creating a strong, concentrated brew. Strain the next morning, and you’re ready to go.

What Is The Perfect Coffee Temperature

Perfect means a lot of different things to a lot of different people.

Given everything weve learned in this article, I would say the optimum temperature for serving coffee is about 160°. Much hotter than 170° and most people would have to let it cool down, and coffee flavor is at its peak right after brewing.

Weve already covered the optimum temperature for brewing coffee and the typical range for serving coffee. We also know that using too high of a temperature for either brewing or serving coffee is likely to result in a more bitter or burned tasting cup of coffee.

That is exactly why you never want to add boiling water to your coffee grounds.

If you go down below 140°, were getting close to kid temps and luke-warm coffee, and if youre anything like me, you either want hot coffee or iced and not something in between.

The perfect cup of coffee is more complicated than you think which is why the quality varies so much from restaurant to restaurant. To get the perfect cup of coffee you have to have:

  • A great quality 100% Arabica coffee bean thats been freshly roasted
  • Ground to order or at least ground that day
  • High-quality purified cold water
  • A brewing temperature of between 197.6° and 204.8°
  • The brewing cycle is ideally completed inside of 4 minutes
  • Coffee is served quickly at a serving temperature of around 160°

Just learned about kids temp option at Starbucks. Actually drink your order as soon as you sit. Amazing stuff.

How To Make Cold Brew Coffee

If youre put off by cold brew coffees long steeping time, dont be. Its easy to make a big batch at once, so you can keep it on hand in your fridge at all times. Heres how I do it:

First, coarsely grind your coffee. I dont recommend using pre-ground coffee beans for this recipe. If you dont have a coffee grinder, grind the beans at the store yourself, or get freshly ground beans from a local coffee shop or roaster.

Place the coffee grounds in a large Mason jar and pour filtered water on top. I like to use a 1:2 coffee to water ratio, or 1 1/2 cups of grounds for every 3 cups of water. This yields a fairly strong coffee concentrate, so Ill dilute it with milk or more water before I drink it. More on that below.

Stir to combine the water and the coffee grounds, and let the jar sit, covered, at room temperature for 12 to 24 hours. The longer the coffee steeps, the stronger it will be.

Next, strain the coffee. No one likes a cup of coffee with gritty grounds at the bottom, so its important to strain the cold brew well. I do this by placing a fine mesh strainer over a bowl and lining it with a layer of cheesecloth. You could also line the strainer with paper filters.

Pour the coffee through the strainer and store it, covered, in the fridge.

When youre ready to enjoy your coffee, pour it over ice and dilute it with more water or milk to taste. I love mine with almond or oat milk. Enjoy!

Hot coffee is hot coffee. Its rich, its satisfying, its cozybut its hot coffee. There are a few mixed drinks you can make with it, but its not really something most people would consider versatile.

Cold brew coffee, on the other hand, can be made into a variety of drinks. You see, the process of cold brewing doesnt produce a ready-to-drink brewit creates a concentrate that can be paired with many other ingredients.

What Single Serve Coffee Maker Makes The Hottest Coffee

As I mentioned above, the optimal temperature for brewing coffee is between 197-205°.

But thats not for drinking, obviously, unless youre also a fan of using Old Faithful as a hot tub . The optimum temperature for serving coffee is a range between 153-175°. My wife likes hers on that low end, and I like my coffee hot!

Single-serve coffee makers, as the name implies, brew just one cup at a time.

Like many other sizes of coffee makers, with single-serve, you also have drip, pour-over, pod-style, and even French Presses. I should also say there are MANY coffee makers that all brew coffee pretty hot, so its not fair to say there is one that is significantly hotter than others.

Its also worth pointing out that brewing or serving coffee at too high of a temperature can actually make the coffee too acidic and bitter.

That being said, in my research, the hottest single-serve coffee maker is the TouchPlus T526S from Touch Coffee, which is a Keurig-style pod coffee maker.

But I cant recommend that one due to the overwhelmingly negative reviews on Amazon . I will say it brews the coffee at 200° and brews it very quickly .

But, based on the reviews, dont buy that one.

For the hottest single-serve coffee maker that actually has great reviews, I would get the Keurig K-Elite Single-Serve K-Cup Pod Coffee Maker .

How To Make Coffee In A Glass Percolator

While most percolators are made from metal, you can purchase glass or Pyrex styles. These are quite impressive to look at and they can be used as a decorative piece in your kitchen.

You make coffee the same way in a glass percolator as other types but you will need to be quite mindful about using too high of heat. This can eventually crack the glass! You also must be quite thorough about cleaning your glass percolator after each use, as the coffee can stain.

Iced Tea Brewing Process:

Here are the traditional tea brewing techniques for you:

  • Take 16 oz K-cup for making iced tea and load your selected toppings on top of the cup.
  • Insert the K-cup into the Keurig for brewing.
  • Now, brew the tea in the K-cup, load the number of ice cubes you need to enjoy the freshly prepared iced tea.
  • Why Should You Cold Brew Your Coffee

HOT COFFEE RECIPE | cappuccino coffee recipe at home | tasty foods | 4k

This coffee-making method has a few things going for it:

    • The slow infusion pulls all the great coffee flavor from the beans .
    • But it also leaves behind most of the compounds that can make coffee taste bitter and sour.
    • This means that cold brewed coffee is incredibly smooth and almost sweet-tasting. Perfect for iced coffee.

You can also adjust the concentration of your cold brew coffee, making it stronger or less strong to suit your taste. Start with one cup of beans steeped in four cups of water. This will make a fairly concentrated coffee on its own, but its perfect for pouring over ice or mixing with milk or both. If that ratio of beans to water isnt quite to your taste, adjust it up or down until you hit the perfect balance for you.

I also really love that this method for making coffee actually saves me time in the morning. I make a big batch over the weekend, starting it on Saturday or Sunday night and straining it the next morning, and then stash it in the fridge for an easy coffee fix all week long.

Here’s How To Turn Hot Coffee Into Iced Coffee

Meandering your grocery store’s iced coffee aisle can be pretty intimidating with the plethora of options – regular iced coffee, iced coffee with milk, cold brew, and don’t even get us started on the different flavors. Sometimes, it’s easier and more economical to use the coffee beans that are probably already sitting in the back of your cupboard at home.

If you do make hot coffee, there are a few ways to convert your hot coffee supply into iced coffee, and whether you use beans, grounds, or k-cups, they all boil down to one method: lots of ice. First things first, brew your coffee extra strong by using the same amount of grounds but half the amount of water. Pour the hot coffee over a cup that’s filled with lots and lots of ice. You’ll notice a few iced cubes starting to melt which will help dilute and bring it to room temperature. After a few minutes and when there’s ice floating, not melting, transfer into a new cup filled with ice. Add creamer and sugar if desired. Stir, sip, and enjoy!

If you like your iced coffee extra cold, repeat those steps then pour the iced coffee along with ice into a shaker before adding creamer and sugar. Shake for several seconds. Or, leave it in the freezer for an additional few minutes until it’s at a cool enough temperature. And since nothing tastes worse than watered-down iced coffee, we recommend enjoying your icy beverage the day of.

How Hot Is Kid Temp At Starbucks

If you have kids, you no doubt have ordered a hot chocolate or if theyre older, some fancy drink and asked for it at kid temp.

My wife ALWAYS asks for her coffee drinks at Starbucks to be kid temp.

So I got a little curious about how hot kid temp is at Starbucks. After all, we know coffee is ideally brewed at 200° and served somewhere around 160° and 185°.

Kid temp at Starbucks is exactly 130°.

Can You Use An Urn To Keep Hot Chocolate Warm

    Yes,

use the instructions above to make the hot chocolate and, as you would keep your milk warm or coffee for that matter, keep the plugged in and on a warm setting to maintain the temperature. Simply keep an eye on the urn and top up with milk, mini chocolate bits and sugar as needed. You can make with quality cocoa powder if you want, entirely optional.

    Making The Iced Vanilla Latte

Hot Coffee Contains More Antioxidants Than Cold Coffee

Vanilla lattes are so easy to make and you dont need to splurge on an expensive vanilla bean to get good flavour with this syrup. Like the rest of the syrups here, the formula is pretty straightforward. Make a plain simple syrup by mixing boiling water and sugar together, then add in your flavouring of choice.

For this vanilla latte, I used plain old artificial vanilla extract but you could use the more expensive pure extract or opt for the vanilla bean if you can find them. But really, the vanilla latte is the easiest of all to make. Like the machiatto, start with an empty cup full of ice. Brew two espresso shots and pour them over the ice, then stir in 1 cup of milk and add vanilla syrup to your taste. Yum!

Similar to the last method, although only thing to keep in mind is that you will have to freeze what you are adding to your coffee.

Among other things, honey, milk, and creamer can be frozen. Your hot beverage will be made as usual, followed by the addition of flavor-infused ice cubes. When added to your beverage, they will impart a pleasant taste that wont alter its flavor.

How To Use An Electric Percolator

Electric percolators operate the same as stovetop percolators, except that you simply flip a switch to heat up the water. This model is a bit more convenient since it will automatically shut off once the water reaches a boiling point. Further, you dont need a stove so you can take it with you in an office, dorm room, or anywhere with an electrical outlet.

Rule : Keep Coffee Beans Fresh

Always store opened coffee beans in an airtight container. Glass canning jars or ceramic storage crocks with rubber-gasket seals are good choices. Never refrigerate . Flavor experts strongly advise against ever freezing coffee, especially dark roasts. Optimally, buy a five- to seven-day supply of fresh beans at a time and keep them at room temperature.

Making Hot Chocolate In Coffee Maker

Cocoa powder is the main ingredient in hot cocoa mix. Manufacturers roast cocoa beans, then grind them. They mix additives like sugar and dairy products to make hot chocolate powder.

You can purchase a hot chocolate machine, but a drip coffee maker works just as well. Single-serve coffee makers typically have options for hot chocolate powder, as well.

    Insider Tip

A thermal carafe is far better than a hot coffee maker for keeping coffee hot. While a heating plate will keep coffee hot, it might also burn your fresh-brewed coffee.

Drip types of coffee makers are capable of producing many of your favorite coffee drinks. For example, you can learn how to make espresso with a regular coffee maker.

    Using a Drip Coffee Maker

    STEP 1

First, if you have a reusable coffee filter for your ground coffee, remove it. You want it to make hot water for your hot chocolate mix. Next, fill your hot coffee maker with water as if you were making a cup of coffee.

    STEP 2

Fill the water reservoir with a few cups of water. This method is best when making large batches of hot cocoa. If you know how to make hot water in a coffee maker, youre halfway there.

    STEP 3

To expedite the process, ready your cup before brewing. Take out your milk jug, hot chocolate mixture, and anything else you need.

    STEP 4

    STEP 5

Leave your full coffee pot on the heating plate so that your cocoa product stays warm. For better results, pour the cocoa product into a steel thermal coffee carafe instead.

How To Get The Right Consistency Of Grind For Your Coffee Beans

Youll notice I said burr grinder.

A burr grinder ultimately gets a much more consistent grind than the ones that spin a sharp metal blade at high speed.

The metal blade grinders also can heat up the beans in the process. Unfortunately, that is adding to the cooking of the beans not great for the flavor.

A burr grinder is where the beans are crushed between 1 moving piece with a rough surface against a non-moving piece with a rough surface. If youve ever seen olives crushed for olive oil, thats basically a giant burr grinder.

There are two types of burr grinders, flat or conical.

The conical one is what you most typically see at Starbucks. The one where the beans are held in a clear funnel above the grinder. And dont worry the ones for home use arent that big.

Both types of burr grinders produce a very consistent grind.

That is why coffee lovers prefer them over blade grinders. If youve ever used a blade grinder and opened the lid only to see mostly finely ground coffee but a few whole or half beans floating around in there too, that is EXACTLY why they arent preferred.

Check out all my coffee product recommendations including great, but inexpensive coffee grinders!

I never knew that 1) convenience and 2) sheer bliss could be found in upgrading to a single-serve coffee maker. My trusty ole drip-maker has found its place in a dusty cabinet now that life has truly been experienced through my cup of coffee.
