How To Make Proper Iced Coffee

Instant Iced Coffee Recipe

How-To Make The Best Iced Coffee
  • Dissolve one packet of Waka coffee into about 3 or 4 tablespoons of room temperature filtered water
  • Stir until all coffee crystals are dissolved
  • Add around 8 ounces of cold filtered water
  • Stir and add desired amount of ice
  • Taste and flavor with cream and sugar

If you didnt make liquid sugar sweetener beforehand, you can easily dissolve some sugar in a little hot water and add it to the iced coffee.

Because the coffee is cold to begin with the hot water wont make a noticeable difference. This is what I do and it works great. Because WAKA coffee has citrus flavor notes I dont find it needs much sugar.

Another delicious cold treat to make with instant coffee is coffee ice cream. Check out this post for a quick/easy recipe.

How To Make The Best Cold Brew Coffee

Making cold brew isnt a difficult process. When broken down into steps, it actually only requires three parts! Heres how its done.

  • Steep the coffee: In a large pitcher or jar, combine ground coffee and water. Let it sit in the fridge for 12 to 24 hours.
  • Strain the concentrate: Next, strain the coffee concentrate through a towel-lined mesh sieve .

Pour Through Cloth Vs French Press Vs Cold Brew Machine

There are three methods to making cold brew, so choose whichever works best for you! The pour through cloth is my personal favorite.

Pour Through ClothFor the straining process, I prefer to use a pour through cloth because its simple and doesnt require any special gear. Simply place the cloth over a cup or bowl, and slowly pour the coffee concentrate through. Let it sit and strain through, refraining from making the cloth overflow. Additionally, dont squeeze the coffee grounds through let them slowly strain.

French PressIf you do have a French press, they are great to use for making cold brew coffee. Measure out your coffee grounds and water, then add them to the press. Stick the lid on top and let the coffee steep for about 12 to 24 hours in the fridge. Press the plunger down, decant the coffee, and serve!

Whether you are using a Chemex, Hario V60, or Kalita Wave, making iced coffee with a pour-over device is simple. Fill your brewing vessel with ice, then use half as much hot water when brewing. As the hot coffee hits the ice, it will melt and dilute the coffee, creating a well-balanced brew.

With manual brewing like this, you can have control over every brewing variable, which means you can customize the coffee to perfectly suit your taste. It’s also possible to brew in bigger batches with pour-over devices.

Iced Coffee Vs Cold Brew Coffee

Why might cold brew be a better way to make iced coffee? Lets break it down:

    • Iced coffee is brewed with hot water which means more of the oils and acidic flavors are released, this can result in a bitter taste.
    • Cold brew coffee is brewed with cold water so that does not happen because the oils and acids are not as soluble in cold water. The sweet compounds in coffee are soluble in cold water so;cold brewing results in a smooth/mellow flavor.
    • Cold brew can also be easier on people with a sensitive stomach, and because its brewing process brings out the sweet flavors better for people who are trying to cut down on sugar.

If you want to make your iced coffee from cold brew coffee youll need to plan ahead because its best to let it brew for 12 to 24 hours before you use it, otherwise you wont get the benefits of the mellow flavor.

The Benefits Of Cold Brew Coffee

A cup of cold brew coffee isnt just your standard cup of coffee. In fact, there are a long list of benefits to choosing it over the latter, such as a richer, stronger taste, lower acidity, and more.

    • Slightly less caffeine: For someone that wants to stick with coffee but is trying to cut back on caffeine, cold brew is a great choice because it has slightly less caffeine than drip coffee.
    • Smoother taste: Cold brew has a smoother taste because it isnt heated. You may not even need to add cream or sugar .
    • Easy to make: Cold brewing is an electricity-free method that doesnt require a machine and can be done by naturally steeping coffee grounds.

    Making The Iced Vanilla Latte

Vanilla lattes are so easy to make and you dont need to splurge on an expensive vanilla bean to get good flavour with this syrup. Like the rest of the syrups here, the formula is pretty straightforward. Make a plain simple syrup by mixing boiling water and sugar together, then add in your flavouring of choice.

For this vanilla latte, I used plain old artificial vanilla extract but you could use the more expensive pure extract or opt for the vanilla bean if you can find them. But really, the vanilla latte is the easiest of all to make. Like the machiatto, start with an empty cup full of ice. Brew two espresso shots and pour them over the ice, then stir in 1 cup of milk and add vanilla syrup to your taste. Yum!

How To Make The Perfect Iced Coffee

Iced coffee — the cooler and more refreshing relative of your morning cup of joe — is a blessing come summertime. Not only does it provide you with your much needed caffeine fix, but it cools you down during those unbearably hot months. While it sounds deceptively simple to make , there is an art that’s worth perfecting when it comes to making iced coffee; you wouldn’t want to suffer three months of not-so-good coffee just because it’s served over ice.

There are two schools of thought when it comes to iced coffee, the hot-brewed and the cold-brewed. While they adhere to very different methods, there is one point both agree upon: pouring regular-brewed coffee over ice is nothing short of a travesty. Coffee is a fragile beverage, and it doesn’t sustain extreme change in temperatures well. Often times, this will result in a coffee that is acrid, sour or weak.

So, how do you make a good iced coffee? Well, it depends on your tastes and the way you perceive iced coffee. If you want an iced beverage that tastes like regular coffee, the hot-brewed method will give you that result. If you see iced and regular coffee as two separate entities, you may be a fan of the cold-brew variety. The hot-brewed method will result in a more robust flavor while the cold brew is mellow and naturally sweet.

Youll need a tall glass and a spoon long enough to reach the bottom of that glass.

Fill that glass full to the rim with ice. If you really want to get serious about your iced coffee, you can make ice cubes out of coffee too. Then you wont get that watered-down effect.; And if youre into that flavored sort of coffee then go for it.

Pour room temperature coffee into the glass.

Fill it almost to the top.

Pour in the white stuff. Heres where you get to make a big decision. Do you want to go all out and make this a decadent treat? If so, then add cream or half & half. If you want to go a little lighter, use whole milk or fat-free half & half. And lighter still, use nonfat milk.

Take a moment to watch the swirls sink to the bottom and mix in with the coffee. Its a magical moment. ð

Add a couple spoonfuls of sugar or whatever sort of sweetener you usually add to your coffee.; In the recipe notes below, I share how to make sugary simple syrup in case you prefer to use that instead of granulated white sugar.

    Stir it all up!

Add a purple straw. If youre a straw person, that is. And drink up!

How Long To Steep Cold Brew Coffee

Once your coffee and water are well mixed, let the mixture sit for 12-18 hours to allow the coffee to infuse into the water. The ideal time to steep your cold brew is between 14 and 18 hours. This will give you the best cold brew flavor without the bitterness that could come from steeping too long.

You can either steep your cold brew on your counter at room temperature or in your refrigerator.

Coffee grinds should be medium coarseness and not too fine of course.

Grind the coffee beans just before brewing for maximum freshness and flavor.

Use cold water that is filtered but not distilled, water containing minerals make the brew more flavorful.

Do not add anything else to the grinds/water mixture that would affect the taste of coffee.

Let the mixture sit on the counter where it can be stirred occasionally; otherwise if left in a fridge or freezer, sediment will build up at the bottom of the container which makes it harder to pour off brewed liquid.

After brewing, keep it refrigerated but not frozen until ready to serve and enjoy!

With some simple steps above, you can make your own high-quality glass of cold brew coffee.
