Why Make Iced Coffee At Home

How To Make A Home made Caramel Frappé From Starbucks by ...

In case you need more convincing, here are a few of the perks to making your own caramel iced coffees:

It’s cheaper. The most expensive items you’ll need for this recipe are coffee and cream, and I guarantee that you can purchase both of these items for the cost of 3-4 iced coffees from a coffee shop. I don’t know exactly how many homemade iced coffees you’ll get out of one bag of coffee, but it’s definitely wayyyy more than 3-4.

It’s convenient. Going to a coffee shop involves – at the minimum – getting dressed, walking/driving somewhere, waiting in line, ordering, waiting some more, and finally getting your coffee. Making your own iced coffee involves walking into your kitchen and pouring 4 ingredients into a glass filled with ice. If your coffee and caramel are pre-prepped it literally takes 2 minutes.

It’s customizable! Like your coffee a little less sweet? Just add less caramel. Looking for something extra-creamy? Add an extra tablespoon of cream. Make it work for you.

A Note On The Difference Between Caramel Syrup And Caramel Sauce:

So, Starbucks and every other fancy coffee place have two different things going on syrups and sauces.

The syrups are the generally clear liquids that you see in large bottles with pumps on top. These pumps of flavor are the backbone of all of the flavored drinks.

If you watch closely, these pumps of flavor are usually the first thing the barista will add to your cup after you order.

But then, once the drink is complete, for the final garnish , they are using something different, which is a sauce.

In the photos in this post, caramel syrup was used to make the flavored iced coffee, and caramel sauce was used as the garnish on top.

I have a homemade caramel sauce included in my apple and pecan tart recipe if youd like to try your hand at that.

But I often use a store bought sauce , and I like that just as well.

HOW TO MAKE STARBUCKS ICED COFFEE AT HOME | 2 WAYS

Like I mentioned above, cold brew coffee is technicallythe best option for any iced coffee drink. There are plenty of methods for making it at home, or you can purchase pre-made cold brew from the grocery store . That being said, buying cold brew can be expensive, and I haven’t personally committed to the homemade cold brew bandwagon. Instead, I just brew my coffee as normal using my French press or pour over and refrigerate a small portion for iced coffee.

Is This An Iced Latt

Originally, this post was published as an iced caramel latté. I have since changed the proportions of milk and coffee used in this recipe and it is now more accurately an iced coffee than an iced latté, hence the name change. Iced lattés use espresso, contain much more milk, and should technically involve foam. I personally like having more of a coffee flavor in my drink, and an iced coffee in general is – in my opinion – much more simple and therefore approachable for most people.

Which Coffee Beans Should I Use

To make sure you get a good amount of coffee taste in your iced coffee, you want to use either a medium or dark roasted coffee bean. Are you going to use espresso as the coffee base? Make that espresso using a good quality dark roast coffee.

If you plan on using filter coffee for this recipe, either use medium or dark roasted coffee beans to make your coffee. You want to steer away from anything lighter roasted as the flavor of these coffee beans is not strong enough to punch through the sweetness of this iced coffee recipe.

What Is The Difference Between Iced Coffee And Cold Brew Coffee

How To Make The Best Caramel Iced Coffee At Home in 2020 ...

As I have mentioned above, iced coffee is made by brewing a good quality cup of coffee and chilling it in the freezer or refrigerator, depending on the time you want to spend on it.

Using the freezer to chill your hot brewed coffee quickly is a good way to get that iced coffee quickly. Just freeze your coffee for about 30 minutes until it has cooled down completely.

If youve got a bit more time to spare or you want to make this iced coffee in advance, brew some coffee and pop it into the refrigerator. You can leave the coffee in there for as long as you need. Just make sure to drink it within 2 days as it will start to lose some good flavors after that.

Cold brew coffee is made by pouring cold water onto coarsely ground coffee beans and letting this steep for 12 to 24 hours in the refrigerator. Leaving this coffee too steep for this amount of time will create a unique flavor profile that is very different from the iced coffee method.

Brewing hot coffee and chilling it to make iced coffee will give you slightly less flavor in comparison to the cold brew coffee that has steeped for 12 hours. Cold brew coffee tastes full-bodied and has more punchy flavors to it. Iced coffee will give you a flatter-tasting coffee with a good amount of sweetness to it.

Common Questions About Making An Iced Caramel Latte

How do you make iced coffee at home?

To make iced coffee at home, you simply have to brew a pot of coffee, let it cool to room temperature or refrigerate it, and then pour it into a cup over ice. I suggest making the coffee a bit stronger than normal since it will be diluted with ice, cream, and flavoring.

Is iced coffee good for you?

You can make any iced coffee recipe better for you by making good choices and substitutions with the ingredients. To make an iced skinny caramel latte, using fat-free milk instead of cream and make your own caramel simple syrup or caramel sauce in order to cut out some of the extra sugar.

Is cold brew iced coffee?

No, cold brew is made by combining water and coffee grounds and letting sit at least overnight. Iced coffee is made by brewing a hot pot of coffee and letting it cool. Because of that, cold brew can be a lot stronger than iced coffee and it tastes better for longer periods of time before getting acidic.

Are iced caramel lattes dairy-free?

This iced caramel latte recipe can be made dairy-free by using a dairy-free milk such as

These will each impact the taste a bit so I usually try to use the most neutral tasting non-dairy milk if going that route .

Iced caramel lattes can be made vegan very easily. With this recipe, use a non-dairy milk and make sure to check that the caramel syrup or caramel sauce that you use is vegan since not all are.

The short answer is that there is no one best milk option for adding to your coffee. Each milk type, whether it be whole or plant based, has its own unique flavors and benefits. Below I have broken down the ones we like to use in our home.

  • Whole milk is notably the most common used in coffee. It helps to tone the bold flavor. It has a rich ad creamy taste and is a great addition to the drink.
  • Soy milk can come sweetened or unsweetened. They also have varieties with flavor add ins such as vanilla.
  • Almond milk is lower in calories and fat which makes it a healthier option and is an extremely popular option at our local coffee stop.
  • Coconut milk is my personal favorite addition to iced coffee. However, I keep it to a special treat since it is higher in fat and calories.
  • Oat milk is one I have not personally tried, but is popular with my bestie. She swears by its thick and creamy texture and insists it makes the very best coffee mix-in.
