SF Bay Coffee OneCup French Roast Coffee K Cup REVIEW & Does It Work In Keurig Coffee Maker?

If you like different coffee flavors, and to create a hole atmosphere while drinking coffee this is for you. I prefer drinking this kind when I have the time to experience the flavors. The traditional coffee I drink in the morning before work is something I do by inertia. So, this is a break-coffee.

It is Keurig Compatible as all the San Francisco Bay coffee pods. I like that all an eo-design . Except one detail: It is Compostable, yes. But in Industrial Composting Facilities. So be sure you have one of this in your county, for the compostable attribute to make sense. The flavor was great, and they loved the design of the single-serve pods

Overall the coffee is excellent, but I do have a problem with the pods, firstly they are not 100% compostable pods. They have a substantial plastic ring around the outside of the pods. Apart from this, the coffee is excellent, and they do create less waste than traditional pods.

Pros

  • Packaging keeps the coffee fresh
  • Eco-friendly mesh
  • Plastic wrapped

Video Showcases Jobs Created By Plastics Recycling

Your Bottle Means Jobs video from the Carolinas Plastics Recycling Council and the Association of Plastics Recyclers highlights plastics recycling’s economic benefits in the Carolinas.

A new Your Bottle Means Jobs video from the Carolinas Plastics Recycling Council and the Washington-based Association of Plastics Recyclers illustrates the economic impact of plastics recycling in the Carolinas as China tightens the types of recycled materials it will accept for import.

The video, titled Real People, Real Jobs, Recycle, highlights those working in the high-density polyethylene plastics recycling industry in the Carolinas, focusing on the North Carolina recycling supply chain. Featuring employees of North Carolina companies such as ReCommunity , Plastic Revolutions, Crumpler Plastic Pipe and Burts Bees, the video shows how recycling positively affects the environment and the economy.

North Carolinas local industries import recycled bottles from abroad and other states to meet their demands, says YBMJ Campaign Leader Blair Pollock. When households recycle just two more bottles a week, they need to know that they are helping support Carolina jobs. In fact, a recent poll found that 66 percent of people ages 18-34 would be more likely to recycle if they knew what happened to their recycling after it hits the recycling bin.

He adds, This video demonstrates the recycling process in a fresh, innovative way.

What Can I Do With Compostable Coffee Pods

You can throw it into your home compost, green waste bin , or you can take it to your local community compost heap. If it ends up in landfill, it will still break down at an accelerated rate, just not as quickly as it would in compost.

What Does Compostable Mean

Compostable means the material is certified to break back down into soil under the right conditions. There are 2 types of compostable materials:

  • Industrial certified compostable materials need to be composted at a special facility.
  • Home certified compostable materials are certified to break down in a home compost pile.
  • Coffee pods fall in the second category. They need to be taken to a commercial composting facility in order to break down into organic matter.

Few people have access to these types of municipal food waste programs, so it makes you wonder

Rethinking Sustainability In The Coffee Industry

Its just one initiative from a company with a commitment to living green and being social responsible.

As told in the great video below, the largest consumer of coffee in the world is the kitchen sink. Makes you think, huh?!? Because its true! So much coffee gets poured down the drain from bitter, cold coffee left in coffee pots in homes and offices around the world.

The Rogers Family Company wanted to reduce environmental waste from discarded brewed coffee. They knew that single serve packages were environmentally sound. It sounds counterintuitive to protect the Earth by creating single serve packaging. But by creating a compostable cup, the Rogers Family Company did just that.

Now, I have to say that biodegradable coffee cups are a GREAT thing, but only if you COMPOST them!! You cannot add these to your normal waste stream and think they will disappear. You need to dispose of the biodegradable coffee cups in a compost bin or a community collection process.

Can You Compost Coffee Pods At Home

GreenTree Inn Hotels Announce Partnership with San ...

Compostable K-Cups typically will not break down in a home compost pile. There are currently no coffee pods certified for home composting.

The Tayst website says some home composters do have success composting coffee pods. However, it takes much longer than it would at an industrial facility and some of them shred the pods first so they break down faster. Theres no guarantee itll work.

If there isnt an industrial composting facility near you, compostable may not necessarily be better than recyclable. You need to weigh the options based on your own circumstances.

San Francisco Bay Gourmet Coffee And Costco Settle For $500k In Greenwashing Suit

    Nick Brown | March 20, 2018

Costco and JBR Inc., the Roseville, California-based company that does business as San Francisco Bay Gourmet Coffee, have agreed to jointly pay $500,000 in the settlement of a consumer protection lawsuit involving coffee pods with false marketing claims related to biodegradability and compostability.

The suit was brought forth by 25 district attorneys offices in the State of California, where there is an outright ban on biodegradability claims tied to any products containing plastic, while compostability claims must be backed by approved scientific testing showing that the plastic will break down in a commercial composting facility.

California consumers trying to help reduce the problem of plastic waste in landfills are often misled to believe that plastic products labeled as biodegradable will break down in municipal trash, Alameda County District Attorney Nancy OMalley said in an announcement of the settlement. But most landfills prevent biodegradation. In order to prevent misleading consumers, the Legislature banned the sale of plastic products labeled with language implying they will biodegrade.

In addition to paying the $500,000 in civil penalties and costs, Costco and JBR Inc. are prohibited from selling plastic coffee pods labeled as biodegradable in the state, and they must obtain a specific scientific certification in order to sell any pods boasting the compostable label.

I dont see many coffee pod companies in the United States making biodegradable claims because its not that exciting to say, put this in your normal trash. If you think youre looking for biodegradable coffee pods, you should probably look for compostable pods instead.
