De’longhi All-in-one Combination Coffee And Espresso Machine

Features: Lots Of Buttons And Programming Options

DeLonghi All-in-One Combination Coffee and Espresso Machine Review

On the drip side, the oddly named Aroma button slowly releases water onto the grounds a little bit at a time with pauses in between, which is said to extract more flavor from the ground beans. This setting should only be used when brewing 5 cups or lessnever for a full carafeand it takes a little longer to brew coffee this way. We noticed a slight difference in the flavor, but couldnt decide if it was better or just different. Its worth trying both ways.

For a morning carafe of coffee, the machine can be programmed to brew at your desired time. The bottom warmer can also be programmed to keep the coffee warm for your desired amount of time by default, it is set for two hours. The machine also takes advantage of the fact that the top gets warm in use and has a convenient tray where you can warm your coffee cups before you use them.

While its a small feature, we have to note that the pouring spout on the drip carafe worked very well, unlike some that dribble and spill.

Delonghi All In One Com532m Vs Espressione Em1040

Besides its stainless steel housing, there are a few differences between the Espressione EM1040R and the DeLonghi All in One, starting with its $260.99 price tag.

Further, the Espressione can achieve an impressive 19 bars of pressure, compared to the DeLonghis 15 bars. The user interface on this machine also gives you more control over your espresso shots. However, it lacks a digital display and programmable timer.

Price: Expensive For One Machine But Reasonable For A Two

You can find this coffee maker for less than $200, which, considering everything you get in terms of special features and the fact that it takes the place of two appliances, is quite reasonable. However, if you arent interested in making espressos and cappuccinos, there are much cheaper drip coffee makers available that will probably meet all your needs.

Delonghi All In One Review Overview

Ill go into more detail about this coffee machines best features later on in this DeLonghi All in One Review. However, heres a quick rundown if youre in a rush.

My first impressions of the DeLonghi All in One left me with more than a few questions. Sure, this hybrid device looks pretty sophisticated. However, can it deliver high quality coffee and espresso for just $289.95? Plus, am I going to get convincing milk foam out of this thing or is the steam wand just a gimmick?

In case you were wondering, the DeLonghi All in One uses a dual heating system that allows you to brew coffee and espresso drinks at the same time. On the espresso side, youll get a 15 bar pump, which is fairly standard for most home espresso makers.

Theres also a manual steam wand with two settings. I mean, whats the point of an espresso machine if you cant make steamed milk? In case youre already having trouble choosing between making espresso or drip, the DeLonghi All in One gives you other options too. For example, theres a 2 in 1 portafilter in case you favor pods over ground espresso.

When it comes to the coffee maker side of this machine, theres a spill proof carafe to ensure not a drop of your favorite drip gets wasted.

If youre someone who likes control over flavor and aroma preferences, youll certainly appreciate the option to customize the brew strength. Plus, the digital touchscreen allows you to program the brew time up to 24 hours in advance.

Performance: A Pleasant Surprise

This is a 15-bar espresso machine, which means it uses 15 bars of pressure. We were just a bit skeptical that one machine could produce acceptable espresso as well as carafes of coffee, but we were pleasantly surprised when we took this machine for a test brew. On the espresso side, the manual suggested using a medium grind and not tamping the grounds, but even when we tested it with a tamped fine grind, it worked well.

A steam wand swivels out from the machine to steam and froth the milk for cappuccinos and lattes. Just the end of the steam wand needs to be submerged in the milk. It worked well, and it was fun to use. Drip coffee was as we expected, with the ultimate results relying more on the beans we brewed than the settings we chose.

Do You Want To Make Specialty Drinks Such As Cappuccinos And Lattes

If espressos or Americanos are your drink of choice, you may not need to invest in fancy machines with all the bells and whistles. A simple 15-bar espresso model like the Delonghi Stilosa may be just what you need.

However, if you enjoy drinking cappuccinos, lattes, and flat whites regularly, you may want to add more features to your machine. It may be worth it to invest in a machine with a quality milk steamer and a dual heating system like the La Specialista or All-in-One Combo maker to streamline your coffee-making process.

A look at the interface

The DeLonghi All-in-One Combination Coffee Maker & Espresso Machine has a digital display and pretty simple controls. The three buttons on the far-left side are as follows: the top button is the espresso on/off button, the middle button is the espresso coffee/hot water button, and the bottom button is the steam button.

The black display panel houses the touch display functions, theres a coffee on/off button, clock, and four buttons at the bottom: bold , along with the buttons for auto, hours, and minutes, which are used to set the clock and program the coffee maker to start automatically.

Finished pot of coffee

Making a pot of coffee was as simple as pouring coffee grounds into the basket, filling the water tank, and pressing the on/off button to start the brewing process. You can see the final result in the photo above.

To make espresso, the machine needs to be preheated. I turned the appliance on, inserted the filter holder , and placed one of the DeLonghi double-walled glasses ) underneath. Then, I turned the espresso maker on to deliver hot water into the glass, which I then emptied. Then I repeated the process again, this time with coffee beans that I ground in one of my own coffee bean grinders.

DeLonghi and Breville are both well-respected brands in coffee circles. The DeLonghi Brand is Italian while Breville has its roots in Australia. Both coffee maker brands use much of the same technology with some design differences. A Breville espresso maker offers more grind size options, while DeLonghi offers users a grinder with a patented sensor.

Both brands make espresso up to the Specialty Coffee Associations expectations using 9+ bars of pressure for espresso. However many DeLonghi machines make a slightly more sophisticated brew using 19 bars of pressure, whereas Breville machines use 15 bars.

What Type Of Milk Wand Should You Choose

Many espresso machines also include steam wands so you can top off your espressos with creamy foam. This is a must if you want to make specialty drinks in addition to plain espressos. However, DeLonghi offers different types of milk wands depending on your preference and budget.

Some milk steamers on the more expensive machines automatically froth your milk for you and then top off your drink after the shot is pulled. Others, have a wand that you can set to hands-free. The more budget models have wands that leave the milk-texturing up to you. Decide how hands-on you want your milk steamer to be as you choose your ideal machine.

According to the Specialty Coffee Association, coffee must be brewed using at least 9 bars of pressure to be an authentic espresso. The pressure gives you a foamy layer of crema on top of your espresso.

DeLonghi offers many high quality espresso machines that go above and beyond and use 15+ bars of pressure. The higher the amount of pressure, the richer and creamier the crema topping will be. DeLonghi even tops its pod espressos with a rich, foamy, crema-like layer. This is a difference you can taste!
