Whats In An Espresso Martini

Cocktails are probably one of my favorite and most frustrating recipes to make. I feel like there is a science to making the most epic cocktail. It has to have flavor, but not overpowering liquor taste it needs to be smooth. Well, thats exactly what this Espresso Martini is. Smooth. Heres what youll need to make it:

  • Espresso This is key to a flavorful espresso martini. Sure you can add coffee liquor, and we do, but true espresso makes all the difference! If you dont have an espresso maker, I highly recommend using this Stovetop Espresso Maker we have one of these as well and its perfection!
  • Vodka A good martini has good vodka. I use Grey Goose in this recipe, but I also like Franks Organic and Titos Vodka as well.
  • Coffee Liquor Try to find a liquor that doesnt have a lot of sugar in it because you dont want your cocktail too sweet. I like Mr. Black Coffee or Caffe del Fuego.
  • Baileys Irish Cream I used the original in this recipe, but you could also use their Almande .
  • Simple Syrup I made a quick simple syrup by adding 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water to a small saucepan. Bring to a boil until all sugar is dissolved. Pour into a container and store in the refrigerator until cool.

The Most Important Rules To Making Cocktails

When making a drink for people and you want them to love the experience you need to appeal to 4 senses. You must make it taste good of course so follow this recipe and the ideas along with it.

The drink needs to have a pleasant aroma and appeal to the sense of smell. Thus, to do that you need to add a garnish. What makes a craft cocktail is that addition of the herb or spice to make it pop. This is why cocktails from mixologists always have mint or sprigs in them.

A drink should also look beautiful and appeal to site. You eat and drink with your eyes first and no one wants to eat or drink something that looks gross or doesnt look appetizing.

One AMAZING way to add to your drink ambiance and appeal to all senses is infuse your liquor. Infusing liquor is the greatest lie in drink creation as what sounds extremely impressive is really just you pouring liquor into a jar and adding 1-2 ingredients then letting it sit for 1-7 days or even 1 hour! From there just lie to your guests ) its a small fib.

Infused liquor makes you look like some planned, smart super-hero that would do anything when hosting people. It will impress them and has you already 5 steps ahead on appealing to all of the senses.

If you are a tequila person this recipe is amazing with Patron XO Cafe. From here you can make a Mexpresso Martini, which is amazing a well! Straight tequila doesnt translate as well but if you get that Patron XO Cafe then you are cooking with dynamite.

The Espresso Martini History

Unlike other well-known cocktails, the espresso martini history doesn’t go back all that far. It is said to have originated in London during the early 1980s. British “bartending guru,” Dick Bradsell is credited with first creating the cocktail. Apparently, a young model came up to the bar and asked for a cocktail to “wake me up and f**k me up.” The story goes that there was a coffee machine next to him, so he brewed coffee and combined it with vodka. The oldest version of the recipe is said to include coffee, vodka, simple syrup, and two types of coffee liqueur.

Whats An Espresso Martini Anyway

The BEST Espresso Martini Recipe

Espresso martinis are traditionally made with espresso , vodka and Kahlua. To make an espresso martini with Baileys, all you have to do is switch out the Kahlua for Baileys.

In todays recipe, the espresso flavor is definitely there, but its not as strong as in the traditional espresso martini. If you want a stronger coffee taste, you should really use a bit of Kahlua instead of all Baileys. So instead of 4 ounces , use 2 ounces each of Baileys + Kahlua.

This recipe was adapted from Baileys. I couldnt really taste the espresso the way their recipe is written. So I doubled it and think its much better!

What Is A Traditional Espresso Martini Like

Easy Espresso Martini With Baileys and Kahlua

A classic espresso martini contains espresso coffee, vodka and coffee liqueur in varying proportions. The coffee flavour is pronounced and the best versions have only a hint of sweetness about them.

Technically, this drink is not a true martini as it contains neither gin nor vermouth. The world seems happy to turn a blind eye to this small fact and Im happy to run with this notion too.

    About The Baileys Espresso Martini

New to the cocktail scene, the original espresso martini started shaking up the world in the 1980s. The most universally regarded theory is it came from a bar in London when a patron was looking for something different to drink. Her request? A cocktail that would, “Wake me up, and then f— me up.” Brash? A little. Accurate for what the espresso martini has accomplished? Absolutely.

The bartender, Dick Bradsell, thought of the martini because of the location of the coffee station relative to where he made drinks. The close proximity led to the lightbulb moment, perfect for him and his patron.

Sometimes remarked as the grown-up vodka and Redbull drink, the espresso martini has been shining in the spotlight for the past few years. While Baileys Irish cream wasn’t part of the original story, it has begun to appear and become a canon recipe as people specify whether they want a dark or creamy espresso martini. Its popularity is sometimes an issue for some bartenders, cursing the long process of brewing espresso before mixing with vodka, Baileys, and coffee liqueur. However, some bars have brilliantly put their espresso martini on tap.
