What If I Am Making Turkish Coffee For Multiple People With Different Sugar Preferences

How to Make Moka Pot Coffee & Espresso – The BEST Way (Tutorial)

If this is the case, you can do one of two things. First, you can make them in different pots, but for that, you would have to have more than one cezve.

Second, you can start making it with no sugar, pour the first pour to all the cups and then add in the sugar in the second pour.

For example: Lets say I making Turkish coffee for 2 of my guests. First, start with the person who wants his sade and then continue with the second person who wants his orta . Below are the steps I would follow to make them at the same time in one pot :

  • Start by cooking water and coffee for 2 servings with no added sugar
  • Pour your first pour halfway into two coffee pots.
  • Boil the second pour and fill up the first serving with no sugar.
  • Then add in sugar into the pot, mix it, and bring it to a boil before you top off the second serving. Since Turkish coffee is pretty thick and served in such a small cup, it will have enough sweetness.

Brew At The Right Temperature

If you already have a coffee brewer, that’s great. If it is one of the economy devices found in so many stores, and you have not been pleased with the coffee it makes, the problem could be the brewing temperature. The preferred temperature range for brewing the best cup of coffee is about 195 to 205 degrees. Some of the inexpensive machines available today brew at temperatures as low as 165 degrees, and that is a critical problem. While the low price seems inviting, if it can’t brew at the proper temperature it will be impossible to create a good cup of coffee. 1st in Coffee offers a . Some of them even have built in grinders and timers to make the coffee before you are even out of bed. Others are equipped with warming plates with adjustable temperature.

Add Coffee Grounds To The Water

Before you add the coffee grounds, be warned that they will bloom.

This means they will almost immediately form a lot of foam, and might bubble out of your pot if the water level is too high.

Once the coffee’s bloomed , you have two options.

You can either make your pot coffee Turkish style, or French press.

French press involves steeping the coffee like you would with tea. It gives you a more nuanced coffee, with a nicer finish. This works best if you have medium to coarse coffee grounds.

Turkish coffee is very similar, but it has significantly less crema, and you need to be very careful when you place ti back on the fire. This works best if you have fine coffee grounds.

How To Make A Really Good Cup Of Drip Coffee

This piece originally appeared on Needsupply.com.

Yes, a carefully brewed pour-over is glorious. And silky, rich espresso from a machine that looks to be distantly related to a Ferrari, nirvana. Theres also the tinny-but-charming old-world moka, cold brew magic and other chemistry set coffee wizardry. But the auto drip filter, still the most ubiquitous method in most countries, has carried a pall of inferiority for too long, its stigma invariably conjuring up the indifferent sludge of late-night diners and truckstops.

With a little care and a halfway decent machine, though, perfectly good filter coffee is possible. Though it certainly cant trump other, more deliberate methods for out and out flavor, a couple tweaks to your auto drip technique can make for many cups of drinkable, satisfying and convenient joe. Still, it is more of an active process than dumping in some Folgers and hitting brew.

Here are a few simple steps for making much better drip coffee.

2. Use quality coffee. As with any brewing method, raw material is essential. No need to spring for the ultra-premium $$$ stuff, as the drip technique wouldnt really make the most of its subtle complexities, but a good premium brand like Illy or a favorite from your local roaster will walk all over that tin of Yuban.

    Is Drip Coffee Better

Make Great Coffee with a Moka Pot

Drip or pour-over coffee is better than other brewing methods from a health perspective. A research study from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden found that drip coffee is better for your heart’s health.

The difference is in the filter. Unfiltered coffee, like in a French press, can slightly improve overall heart health, but when the coffee is filtered, the positive effects are even more substantial.

Consuming filtered coffee can lead to a 12% decrease in the risk of death from heart disease in men, and a 20% decrease in women.

A French press coffee maker doesn’t use a fine filter, which allows oils to make their way into your coffee cup. When consumed in high doses, French press coffee can raise the LDL levels in your body.

As far as levels of caffeine are concerned, the method of brewing is mostly irrelevant. The most significant determining factors for the level of caffeine in your brew are using the proper grind, amount of coffee, and brew time.

How And When You Grind Matters

Grind your coffee immediately before brewing for maximum flavor.

Experts say coffee begins to lose its flavor within 30 minutes of being ground. This being the case, it’s best to grind on the spot, just before brewing a pot.

Grind size and consistency matter quite a bit, as well. Grind too coarse and you will have a weak pot of coffee. Grind too fine and you will over-extract the coffee and it will taste bitter. Most drip coffee makers call for a medium to medium-fine grind.

Unless you want to spend upward of $100 on a quality automatic burr grinder, a manual hand mill is the most affordable way to achieve a nice, consistent grind, though they do require a small amount of manual labor.

Blade grinders also work, but will produce inconsistent particle size, which can lead to over-extraction.

How To Measure Coffee To Make The Perfect Brew

It isn’t always easy to measure coffee and get the proportion of coffee to water exactly right.

For a start, there are some variables. For instance, how finely ground is the coffee? The same measure of finely ground coffee will deliver a stronger cup of coffee than a measure of coarse ground coffee.

To further complicate things, some of the instructions provided by coffee experts go something like this:

“Add .36 oz or 10 grams of ground coffee per 6 oz cup.”

And what, one might ask, does .36 oz of ground coffee look like? And what is a 6 oz cup?

A coffee CUP is about 6 fluid ounces.

A coffee MUG contains closer to 8 or 9 fluid ounces.

As for measuring 0.36 oz of coffee, there are a couple of ways to do that.

The first is to use a coffee scoop. A level coffee scoop should hold two tablespoons of coffee, which is approximately 10 grams or 0.36 ounces.

So you should use two tablespoons or one coffee scoop of ground coffee for every 6 fluid ounces of water.

However…a lot of coffee scoop makers are a bit sloppy with their designs. So start by using a 1 tbs kitchen measuring spoon, and make sure your scoop contains 2 tbs of ground coffee. If it doesnt, use the measuring spoon instead.

Secondly, if you want to be really precise, you can get some digital scales that are precise enough to weigh your coffee to the nearest gram, or better.

    So you add…

1 coffee scoop of ground coffee for every 6 fluid ounces of water

1 1/3 coffee scoops for every 8-9 ounces of water

    And so on.

Are A Percolator And A Moka Pot The Same

How To Make Better Coffee with a Moka Pot

They sure arent and ironically they have more in common with other coffee brewing methods than with each other. Moka pots use high pressure to push water through finely-ground coffee. Percolators also use water vapor but it slowly goes through coarsely ground coffee. The processes are similar in terms of the water vapor but they yield very different results. Coffee from a Moka pot is espresso-like and coffee from a percolator is similar to drip coffee.

    Keep Your Coffee Brewer Clean

Regardless of your coffee brewer, to get the best possible brew with a coffee machine, it has to be clean. Leftover grounds or oily residue in the brewing path can taint the taste of the coffee. Prevention is the best course, so keep your machine clean if it has been neglected then this is the place to start. When cooled to room temperature visually inspect it and give it a good sniff. If you see coffee stains or it smells like coffee, it needs to be cleaned. will not only clean out coffee residue in the brewer but will also descale the areas where the water is heated. Descaling helps remove any calcium and lime deposits. If these deposits are left to build up, over time they can slow the flow of water through the machine and eventually can cause the heating element to fail. The machine’s washable parts should be cleaned after each use according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. If you use your coffee maker regularly, CleanCaf should be used about once a month to keep it working at its best. As with all cleaning chores, be sure to follow the directions and rinse all parts thoroughly when done. . Just grind about one tablespoon of them every month or so to keep the grinder clean.
