The $200 Breville Smart Grinder Pro coffee grinder uses steel burrs to crush beans into coffee grounds suitable for espresso, drip, cold brew and French press. Even so, it’s expensive, complex to operate, and makes mistakes when grinding for pots of drip.

The Smart Grinder Pro looks inviting enough with its attractive stainless steel body. It’s compact as well and thanks to a grind container that locks into place care of magnets, the appliance doesn’t make much of a mess. By comparison, both the $200 Oxo On Barista Brain Conical Burr Grinder and the $145 Baratza Encore tend to generate a noticeable amount of leftover coffee debris.

If you dont have an espresso machine at home, and dont plan on getting one soon, I wouldnt suggest buying this Breville. The main advantage of getting this grinder is its compatibility for using alongside espresso machines. But if youll only be using it for drip coffee, you may be better off investing in a cheaper alternative like the Bratza Encore.
There are some alternatives for around the same price that are more simple and durable than this option. The feature of adjusting your grind time is useful to espresso drinkers, and not many others.

That being said, its not the most durable option out there. If you dont think youll take care of this grinder , its probably better to buy another option you wont have to be as concerned with.

To start, the number of grind settings has been increased from 25 to 60 for more precise grinding. Taking it a step further however, the top of the stainless steel conical burr grinder can also be adjusted to further accommodate the grind you’re seeking. If you’re brewing for espresso, the grinder comes with a 50-54mm and a 58mm portafilter cradle that can be fitted on the chute for hands-free operation. Also, the upper grinding burr can be adjusted to further extend the total grinding range to accommodate more precise requirements. There’s even an activation switch located beneath the chute that you can press with the portafilter to begin the grinding process. If at any time you need to pause to adjust, simply press the Start/Pause/Cancel button to stop the dose and resettle your grounds.
