What Do We Think

The Inkey List Caffeine eye cream is one of my favorite eye creams. .

Whilst the consistency is more like a serum than it is a cream, I still find it super moisturising and hydrating.

I have not seen any reduction in fine lines however, this eye cream definitely helps brighten my eye area and reduces the morning puffiness I often experience through lack of sleep.

Not only is the Caffeine eye cream fantastic for the price, but it is also much better than a lot of its competitors. In my humble opinion anyway!

Which Is Better Eye Cream Or Eye Serum

It is important to determine your needs when deciding which is better because the answer may be both!

Serums are lighter and tend to be more potent than creams they deliver ingredients with carrier oils, essential oils, and ingredients that deeply penetrate skin. They are great for anti-aging, brightening, and lifting.

However, a good homemade eye cream should still have a place in your beauty regimen! Creams can help finish the work that your serum started while helping hydrate, moisturize, and protect the sensitive skin around your eyes.

Using this lifting eye serum with your own eye cream may help you get better results!

Should You Use Eye Cream

Even if you already have a daily moisturizer you like it can be worth using an eye cream depending on your skin needs.

“Most 20-year olds with youthful skin probably don’t need to invest in an extravagant product, and moisturizers are okay,” says Frieling. “Keep in mind, eye creams are usually formulated with ingredients that deliver quicker and more targeted results than a regular moisturizer although moisturizers certainly can still hydrate the undereye.”

If you chose to use eye cream, Frieling recommends applying it either every morning or night, but not twice daily. While you can use most options at either time, certain ingredients lend better to day or evening. It’s also important to apply eye creams before other skincare products like acne treatments as the area is particularly sensitive.

“Retinol might be one ingredient to only use at night because it can cause sensitivity to the sun,” she says. “In the morning, it’s best to use a lightweight formula to go with makeup. Even better, look for an eye cream with SPF to take you through the day. At night, opt for a thicker cream as it has all night to absorb.”

Read the instructions on any product before use. When it comes time to apply, dab the cream around your eye instead of rubbing. Jaliman says you should avoid putting eye cream on the top lid as that increases your chances of getting it in the eye, causing irritation.

So Which Ingredients Should You Look For

Though theres no magic extract that will stop the aging process altogether, a good eye cream can help diminish the look of wrinkles. But, as Birchenough noted, only if it has the right components. She suggests an eye product with retinol to boost cell turnover. She prefers gel formulations because theyre lighter and more easily absorbed.

As we get older, our skin cells dont reproduce as quickly, Birchenough explains. Retinol helps speed up the process.

Indeed, retinol has long-proven efficacy when it comes to fighting aging. Apparently, thats not all it can fight, either. Retinol has actually been used for more than 3,000 years to help address all kinds of health problems, including night blindness .

Dr. Knaggs recommends vitamin C and peptides as well as established ingredients with anti-aging benefits. She adds that these will help strengthen the skin and make it more robust. Antioxidants can help protect against free radical damage, and Knaggs likes components like sodium pyroglutamic acid to help boost the skins moisture.

Dr. Sevigny suggests ceramides for moisturization, though she doesnt consider it a long-term solution for fine lines. Birchenough likes products with hyaluronic acid to help reduce the look of wrinkles. Its more of an immediate plumping fix, she notes.

No matter which product you choose to use, you should always use it with caution. Should you develop extreme redness, irritation, and swelling, you should discontinue its use immediately.

The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% + Egcg: Key Ingredients

The Ordinary Caffeine Solution is one of The Ordinarys more complex formulas as it contains multiple actives:

Caffeine: Caffeine is a popular ingredient in eye products, as it improves circulation of blood vessels, helping to reduce the look of dark circles and puffiness. Its also a potent antioxidant, protecting skin from UV radiation and photoaging.

Glycerin: Glycerin is an underrated moisturizer that improves skin hydration and reduces transepidermal water loss.

Epigallocatechin Gallatyl Glucoside : A stable and purified form of EGCG, an anti-inflammatory catechin found in green tea leaves. EGCG has been researched for its potential to hydrate and moisturize the skin, reduce wrinkles and fade hyperpigmentation.

Gallyl Glucoside: A protective antioxidant and soothing anti-inflammatory form of gallic acid.

Hyaluronic Acid: A humectant that attracts water to hydrate the skin. Hyaluronic acid acts like a sponge and helps skin cells retain moisture.

Glycine Soja Seed Extract: Soybean extract is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.

Lactic Acid: Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that increases cell turnover. AHAs exfoliate old surface dead skin cells, revealing the younger-looking skin underneath. Lactic acid has a larger molecule size than glycolic acid, another AHA, making it more gentle on the skin and ideal for sensitive skin.

Eye Cream With Caffeine: Is It Right For You

Eye Creams I Use All Over My Face

There are a number of essential items that are part of any skin care kit, and one of those items is an eye cream with caffeine. These creams not only help ease the appearance of dark circles, which is one of the most common beauty issues that people deal with on a daily basis, but many of these creams can also brighten the eye area and reduce puffiness as well. An eye cream with caffeine is more effective at treating these symptoms than regular eye cream moisturizers, because caffeine treats a number of symptoms that moisturizing ingredients do not. This type of eye cream can be purchased at almost any skin care retailer online or in store, and may be a viable option for those who have tried other eye creams in the past but have not achieved the results they were looking for. Before you choose to use eye cream with caffeine, you should make an effort to understand how it may affect your skin and whether you are at risk for suffering any side effects from the use of this product.

Can Eye Creams Help Get Rid Of Bags Under My Eyes

Those bags under your eyes are not merely the result of lost sleep, but also of swelling of the lower eyelid skin, which can come with natural aging. Luckily, certain ingredients that constrict superficial blood vessels can help with swelling, Camp says.

Caffeine is an ingredient found in some eye creams that helps address swelling and dark circles by constricting blood vessels and minimizing the discoloration of dark circles, he says.

How To Use Caffeine Eye Cream

If you wake up with eye puffiness that improves throughout the day , then your eyes will likely respond to topical caffeine, says Hadley King, MD, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City and clinical instructor at Cornell University. I recommend using it regularly so that it can help prevent as well as treat , she says. Tap a small amount into the skin around the eyes once or twice daily, as directed.

You can apply a caffeine eye cream directly after cleansing in the morning before your makeup and sunscreen. And if you want to use it to perk up your complexion in the evening, theres no risk of buzzing all night. The caffeine used in eye creams isnt strong enough to have a coffee-like effect.

You may see its depuffing effects right away. However, like all skincare products, it can take a few weeks of daily use to achieve full benefits. In the meantime, Dr. King says to drink more water and eat less salt. She also suggested sleeping propped up on a couple of pillows to reduce puffy, tired-looking eyes even more.

Caffeine also plays well with other favorites in your skincare routine. Plus, Dr. King says, it can even improve the absorption of other ingredients.

Is Caffeine Good For Under Eyes

If it wasnt clear, applying caffeine skincare formulas to your eye area can be great for your skin and help address under-eye concerns like dark circles. The key is to find the right eye treatment formulated with caffeine. If youve been searching for the best eye cream for dark circles or puffiness, below, were sharing our top four.

What Symptoms Does Eye Cream With Caffeine Treat

Caffeine Eye Cream THE INKEY LIST SEPHORA

If you suffer from eye puffiness, eye bags, or dark circles under the eyes, an eye cream with caffeine is a viable treatment option because it has been proven effective on all of these symptoms. For example, eye puffiness, which can be caused by everything from poor diet to a lack of sleep to allergic reactions, can be soothed by eye cream with caffeine because the ingredient constricts the blood vessels under the skin, which reduces the puffiness.

These creams also treat dark circles that are caused by age and poor sleeping habits in much the same way, which tightens the fine blood vessels underneath the thin skin underneath the eye, making dark circles less visible. Eye cream with caffeine can even help you look younger by treating under eye bags, which are caused by premature aging and dryness. The constricting action can help temporarily tighten the skin and hydrate it as well.

Many eye creams with caffeine include other active ingredients that can help improve the appearance of your skin, such as mica to brighten the skin and vitamin C to protect the skin with powerful antioxidants.

What Is Caffeine

Caffeine is a naturally-occurring substance that can be found in a number of plants, including coffee beans and tea leaves. Many manufacturers opt to add caffeine to products like soda, and there are several caffeine-containing alertness aids on the market that can keep you awake after a rough nights sleep. When you take caffeine internally via a tablet or food source, it stimulates your central nervous system. Although it is safe in small to moderate amounts, very large doses of caffeine can cause harsh side effects. Everyone seems to tolerate different amounts of caffeine differently.

How To Use It

The fact that it may not fully get rid of cellulite or un-puff eyes permanently doesn’t mean it’s never brightening: “When caffeine is combined with other ingredients, we combine it with ginseng, it can energize the skin and optimize cellular energy to help keep skin hydrated, conditioned and looking fresh,” explains Lizz Starr, executive director of global product development for Origins. “Not only that, but it’s a great anti-irritant and promotes skin smoothing.”

So there you have it: Like most ingredients, there are limits to what caffeine can do for your skin, but it does have incredible value in your skincare routine, so it’s worth stocking up on.

My Recommendations For Eye Creams And How To Care For Skin Around Your Eyes

So if it makes you happy, get yourself an eye cream.

My recommendations for selecting an eye cream or a facial moisturiser that doubles up as eye cream:

  • Choose one that is lightweight and non-comedogenic to minimise the risk of milia
  • Include active ingredients like vitamin C and retinoids- these are skincare ingredients that are proven to help with the aging process.
  • Related post: All About Topical Vitamin C

That said, remember that eye creams are not going to perform miracles, so have realistic expectations. Even with the right active ingredients in your eye cream, it is only the skin around of the eye that is going to improve. Structural problems related to aging like crows feet wrinkles, eyebags and dark eye circles will not improve. Lets see why.

Wrinkles at the outer corners of the eyes are also known as crows feet wrinkles.

Wrinkles are an inevitable part of aging and they appear most commonly on the upper half of the face- the outer corners of the eyes the glabella and the forehead.

With repeated facial expressions over the years the muscles of the face pull the overlying skin to create grooves under the surface of the skin at the corners of the eyes to form wrinkles. Coupled with loss of collagen and elasticity with age, the crows feet wrinkles continue to deepen.

The Claim: Caffeine Can Reduce Under

The Facts: Caffeinated eye creams can perk up eyes, but the results are usually short-lived. This means that if youre using a caffeine-infused eye treatment, you may have to use it every day to get the results you want. Caffeine is soothing, anti-inflammatory and vasoconstrictive, which can decrease redness and puffiness, explains certified clinical and research dermatologist Dr. Jeannette Graf. By narrowing blood vessels and calming skin, caffeine can temporarily reduce under-eye bags.

Caffeine can also wake up tired eyes by reducing the appearance of dark circles, informs Dr. Mariwalla. Caffeine helps the microcirculation of blood in the skin, which is why it also helps decrease brown discoloration underneath the eyes, but only over the short term, she says.

Eye creams can come in handy, but are tea bags just as effective in calming under-eye puffiness? The answer is yes, but not entirely because of their caffeine content. This is mainly because of the tannins found in tea, and, again, the effect is short term, says Dr. Mariwalla. Tannins are known to tighten skin and reduce inflammation. Just remember to let the tea bags cool first or this DIY solution is anything but soothing.
